I just want to mention how much I appreciate your videos, book, and maqam world for allowing me, someone without any connections to Arabic music or culture, to learn about the structure and history of this beautiful music. I'm not a trained musician, yet all of your content is presented in such a clear way that I haven't had much trouble learning. Thank you again! Can't wait for some of the less common ajnas to be featured!
These lessons are pure gold. I just ordered an oud so i will be able to follow along with fingers as well as voice and look forward to revisiting your whole series.
@@abushumays Swara are part of Classical Indian music; the Sa, Re, Ga, Ma, Pa, Dha, Ni. Claudia was wondering if this Indian Classical way of notation was also used in Maqam :)

Thank you Sensei 🙇
Thank you - I've never been called Sensei before

5:25 was that a swara? Does Arabic music also use this?
Apologies but I don't know what a swara is - please explain, thank you!
@@abushumays Swara is a term in Hindustani music. It simply refers to a scale degree note
Thanks Elya - I guess I don’t understand the question then - oh well!
