So cool! I saw Garstka do this on “slayin on twitch” and very much peaked my interest. Thanks for breaking it down, I was having a hard time even slowing it down. You’re a wealth of knowledge and super talented man keep ‘em coming!
As a newbie I thought this was just my own inadequacies, it’s mighty reassuring that you, the experienced ones, have had this same issue. Feel better now 👏🇦🇺✌️
In marching bass drums we call these hand-to-hands, I've started calling them hand to feeds when applied to drum set. Such a hard rhythm to split whether it's between two people or your hands and feet.
Great video man! I first saw the hand/foot splits from Thomas Pridgen in one of his Drumeo lessons. I swear just working on them for like 10 minutes a day, I've seen major improvements in almost all aspects of my drumming.
If you haven't seen Ronald Bruner Jr do this on the Memphis Drum Video, do yourself a favor and check it out. It's the fastest I've seen it in a fill 💥🤯
Wow... That actually brings out a double bass effect, especially with your right hand stroke on the floor tom... ...so simple in theory, yet requires much practice to smoothen it out... I found it very interesting...👍
I love it and I feel guilty for never having practices it a lot in my life... I play drums for almost 30 years now!!! But it is something that I'll look in my practices...
That's a killer independence exercise. Noice! Is this little bit making it into a Vitamin Sun song? It'd be cool to hear the context as handled by the OTHER musicians since you seem to have it down pretty well.
I do some slightly slower splits as part of a groove in the song "Backwards Dog." I'll bust 'em out in a fill sometimes when we play live, too. I'm sure they'll work their way into other parts in the future...
Very nice. This is always a tricky one. I have students work on it with all subdivision pyramid up & down with quarter hi hats. What’s the white on your floor Tom?
This is one of the hardest things I can’t play
Amazing
there is an exercise in one of gary chaffee's about those different hand foot conbinations in triplets and 16th. it's crucial to my independence

Lol it happened the exact same thing to me. Garstka is god
Fantastic. The whole room shakes.
All of the true badasses can do this - I can't. Great explanation and lesson on getting started trying to get it down - this is great! Thanks for this

Everything you just played... was badass! Sounded soooo gooood! Thank you for the lesson, hope everything is well.
You can also use double paradiddle, paradiddle-diddle, and a bit more difficult, double stroke paradiddle..All combine with bass drum.

Valuable lesson!

I am pretty sure that the cracked crash will be replaced by Meinl, once you place a warranty claim.
Very cool concept!
that snare sounds fire
Nice the last one rocked 👌👌.
I think that one of the originators is Buddy Rich and/or Tony Williams
Check out the song Liberty by Tony Williams
this lesson is amazing man

Props on these, also we kno you’ve been secretly practicing blastbeats too..
Crankin em out at 420 bpm
Very Vinnie like!

Yes..some of the best limb seperation exercises going..thomas lang workout stuff...and others...all great😁💯✅
This just screams Matt Garstka, I love shredding this - need to build my speed though.
This video is really fun at double speed 😊
You either lied or you bought more rack toms. ;) Love your vids mate. Thank you!

I remember Aaron Spears did this in his Beyond the Chops dvd.
I’ve tried a flam w/the kick as the tap. It’s a bitch to alternate.. it’s sounds more applicable in actual music, similar concept

What’s the white on your floor Tom?
That's a cut out ply from an old head. It helps lower the pitch of the floor tom and cuts some unwanted overtones, too.
You forgot Thomas lang 😁
Amazing
WHAT DID YOU PLAY at 12:22 HOLY DAMN???
A bunch of 16th triplets. A few different 6 and 9-stroke patterns strung together.
FonTOStic!
wow and this for free?
Maison is the best
