- Ommadawn is the third studio album by English musician, multi-instrumentalist and songwriter Mike Oldfield, released on 25 October 1975 on Virgin Records.
As with Oldfield's first two albums, Ommadawn is a single same-titled composition divided into two parts, each designated to a single side of the LP, "Ommadawn (Part One)" and "Ommadawn (Part Two)", this latter ends with a song entitled "On Horseback", written by Oldfield and lyrics by Oldfield and William Murray and, while it was banded separately on vinyl from "Ommadawn (Part Two)", it was only referred to as "The Horse Song" in the liner notes, only properly credited by name on it accompanying single and on remastered copies of the album released from the 2010s onward.

Absolutely the most brilliant thing I’ve ever come across in my lifetime.. Almost 70 now
His Masterpiece...
. .exactly the same here .... i can still recall the absolute fascination after having heard this for the first time almost 50 years ago ... seven months short of turning 70 ...
I can't believe that this music can exist! I ear this since the 70's . Day after day; week after week; ...., year after year,..., and even today after 50 years, I can't believe that a human been could make this masterpiece. I always, always, everyday, discover new modes to ear this. New sensations. This music represents my life, my way of living, my position in the music, in the art.
No more words to explain. I'm 72. I'm very lucky to have the opportunity to live with this masterpiece.
Was living in South Sinai (Dahab) in the mid 90's the final stage of my acute drug and alcohol addiction. One of the cats in our little junkie orbit was a fanatical fan of Oldfield. Memories of watching sunrises over the Red Sea listening to Ommadawn high as kites on narcotics and Israeli Vodka. Been sober and clean nearly 28yrs now. Most of our gang are long gone. I'm the last man standing... advice? Don't do drugs.
howd you manage to get clean? and how did you end up in South Sinai?
that's a comment man....
Very glad for you that you made it through,I also lost many friends from my youth. Keep strong and seek natural highs where you can
I am like you I'm the last one standing.
That's thy Floyds movie/soundtrack to more was so deep and personal.
This is and will forever be a truly World Music Masterpiece. Beyond the centuries.
No more words needed.
I have the original album on vinyl which I bought in 1976. The year I got married to my wife of 48 years in ten days time. It is great to hear it again without the terrible scratches that were inflicted on it over the years of listening to this wonderful piece of music. Thank you for reviving memories from so long ago.
Ommadawn, Amarok and Tubular Bells II, three absolutely Masterpieces of All Time
Hmmmm Amarok I need to refresh my memory be right back
Controversial maybe, but I think this is much better that TB. I love this piece.
Capolavoro . Che genio !
Rimango sorpreso per così pochi like ..☹️
I have every album by him. I'm 36 years old and been listening all my life to his music. I agree that music today is almost total rubbish.
Yes, it is always here for those who seek. Strange that I should come across your comment speaking of 'art' as I was thinking just today how folk say anbout music "well, they don't make them like that anymore" Funny how we have such a high expectation of thousadns more Mona Lisa's, Venus Di Milo's and other works of art, such as this. Yes, they must surely still be being created, just hidden away for now :)
Wielki mistrz .
Pozdrawiam serdecznie z Polski.

Hola, visité Cracovia hace cinco años y me encantó. Saludos cordiales desde Zihuatanejo, Guerrero. México.
It's truly great, Yeah! This is my favourite one by Mike Oldfield especially the first part of it. But it seems, nowadays we are heading towards something lifeless, something inanimate. It's like harvesting all the fruits of life and collecting them not for eternity but for simple usage.
with you, mike, on the horseback
The best, most wonderous introduction to any piece of music ever, and that is long before we consider the rest of this incredible sonic landscape.
Great album
My favorite Oldfield album--and I love most of them. Thanks for posting.
Me encanta, Mike genio y figura.❤❤❤❤
❤❤Bendita musica 😢🦋
I will never stop loving this album!

Hola me encontré a Olfield por casualidad . Hace 30 años lo esuchçe por primera vez. Magnifico sonido y grande! aporte a la música. Rock, electroacústica y sonidos medievales, quizá.... Excelente!!!

Simply put: It's hard to beat this composition! Right up there with Bach, Beethoven, Mozart etc....

Masterpiece.
What a masterpiece !!!! Thank you !!! :)
The uilleann (elbow) pipes on part 2, the soul of Hibernia.
Thank you!!
Quel génie 😍
Maravilhoso!
The culminating opus starting in 73 with Tubular Bells.
I LIKE YOUR LP THE TUBOLOR BELLS MIKE
❤❤❤

4k? This value concern the image. Regarding audio, we talk about sampling frequency. Otherwise, Ommadawn is a pure marvel, even in 0k.
Don't he do all the instruments and editing? S

33:00 The one immortal blemish on an otherwise perfect album. Hey and away we go! Big brown beastie, big brown face!
Why do you think it's a blemish? I like it! 😊
@@JordiCasany it's a mood whiplash, the lyrics are bad and it sounds very twee.
@@BlackSailPass_GuitarCovers Nah! It's beautiful, the perfect ending for a masterpiece. Been humming it all day 😋
@@BlackSailPass_GuitarCovers Humming it while riding my horse
@@JordiCasany OK. I haven't changed my view.
Como podes superar a tubular bells???...imposible..
Sin embargo...
And the bugger was still only 22..
Really? That's incredible, what geniuses walk amongst us
Ommadawn is the phonetic spelling of a word in the Irish language ; amadán, meaning a fool or person with no sense!
Gracias!
