    This guy is great,been collecting knives for ever,got my first one when I was in second grade in 1956 from my dad,Chris IMHO is the real deal out of all the reviewers I've watched,you can bank on everything he says,he's honest and has no agenda and I feel he represents most of us working men out there who can't afford the most expensive gear on the market but finds and uses the best bang for the buck items

    Everyone thinks 14c28n was developed for Kershaw, that was 13c26. While a great edc steel, it's much inferior to 14c28n.
    14c28n is Sandviks "high end" stainless, and was developed for straight razors because it has a very fine carbide structure and extremely low impurities, nothing I've ever used takes a razor edge quite like 14c28n, scary, terrifyingly sharp. You can whittle hairs with it with very little work on the edge. And with stropping you can hold that razor edge pretty much indefinetly. I haven't sharpened my garberg in a year and it still shaves.
    Just here to educate!

    I just saw the 14c28n on the blade @ 1:35 I just got a kershaw blur in that steel. I really like it . Edge retention is very decent .

    14C28N a martensitic stainless chromium steel with a chemistry optimized for high quality professional knife applications and is one of Sandvik's own developed and produced range of knife steels. Sandvik is one of the biggest companies in Sweden. Infos here: smt.sandvik.com/de/produkte/strip-steel/strip-products/knife-steel/ Data sheet for 14C28N: smt.sandvik.com/de/material-center/datenblatter/strip-steel/14c28n/ The well known Mora Garberg is one of the knives with a 14C28N blade for example.

    Yeah, it's hard to go wrong with these Ruike (RAKE) knives. The steel should make them a good bit more expensive, and the action is better than almost anything else under $100. I have two so far and I have my eye on 2 more.

    Chris - I have a Real Steal knife that I bought over a year ago. You should check it out. The model is H6 Plus and it is in 14C28N steel. The knife is a frame lock with the same features as the Ruike P108; such as the lock switch on the frame lock, fold-over deep carry clip, etc. The H6 Plus has great action, smooth and free. The action is as good as any premium knife; at least on my knife. The knife was $42 when I bought it in early '16.

    I like it, for the price. Pocket clip is a little funny but it goes in and out the pocket very easy. The lock is sharp and will hurt your thumb. No texture on the flipper tab makes it very slippery. The spine is sharp too but I like the knife overall.

    ive had this knife for over a month. Great knife. Couple of issues are with mine the secondary lock button has some play (havent tried tightening it yet) & in the folded position ive noticed the tip can be a little close to the scale end. I understand the streamlined profile but you may get a little skin caught on it when its in your pocket & run your finger tip down it.

    • @1lupus
      @1lupus 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The tip should have been buried in the scale a bit further. Any pocket lint will make the exposed tip problem a lot more problematic with lockup failures as well. I ended up making a slip case to avoid any problems and cutting of the thumb. Otherwise mine has been a good blade albeit a bit slippery.

    My Real Steel E571 has the 14C28N stamp as well & looks similar to the Ruike p128. The Real Steel RS7812 has a similar look to this p108- but it is almost twice the price (also 14CN28N stamped). These knives look like design variants to each other, like they split them between the brands. IDK how to determine D2 steel on the RS brand; maybe its the steel on other knives from RS?

    to me...I like it better when you put your own edge on the blades before testing...to me...how sharp it comes does nothing to show how good or bad a knife is....it's nice not having to sharpen it out of the box...any knife can come sharp out of the box...but it doesn't mean it's going to hold an edge or be a good knife...just means someone at the factory did a good job sharpening it...

    • @thewatcher611
      @thewatcher611 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thank you!! Finally someone who understands. I never leave the edge as from the factory. First time I get it I have to mess with it. Putting the same edge Chris always does, would be a better control for testing knife to knife. At least the edge quality can be the same, then things like retention, and sharpenability can be tested on a baseline.

    Chris , most Real Steel folders are made from that 14c28n , just like that Ruike you have . Its a good , higher tier budget steel, probably as good as VG10 (IMO), but definitely better than that Chinese crap 8cr . But watch out for some of those lesser known Chinese companies,(Y-Start) it seems they're miss labeling some D2 knives . Watch Cedric /Ada's video (just out today) on a D2 Y-SHIT knife.

  • @1lupus
    @1lupus 7 ปีที่แล้ว

    I have had one for a while. It is well made, but the design has a few inherent flaws. The knife hates even a little bit of pocket lint and will fail to lock up unless it is kept spotless. I made a slip case for it to fix that problem. The tip is not covered by a lot of the scale and if it does not lock up 100% you can slice your thumb open on it very easily. Once again the slip case seems to stop that happening. But the designer should have left a bit more scale on the business end to protect the user. The only other issue is slipperiness. But for the price it is a well made folder.
