- Ayushmann Khurrana & Andrea Kevichusa chat about working together, doing an Anubhav Sinha film, facing racism, the need for more inclusivity in Bollywood and more, in conversation with GOODTiMES’ Puja Talwar.
Anek is an action thriller film written and directed by Anubhav Sinha. Set in North East India, it focuses on an undercover cop on a mission to restore peace in the Northeastern region of India.
Ayushmann begins the interview by talking about completing 10 years in the industry and choosing socially relevant films. Andrea then goes on to share her experiences and also tells us if she ever faced racism.
Both the actors talk about the relevance of Anek in today’s time and why subjects like this mustn't be ignored.
Before concluding the interview, Ayushmann tells us why he doesn’t watch his own films and songs.

I hope in future we see more inclusive character in entertainment industry not for stereotypical character but genuine characters. I always disliked how many people discriminate their own people from other states. We speak different languages, culture are different, look different and this should be our pride we should be proud of our diversity.

I agree with Andrea that people from NE should not be casted only for some stereotyped roles but they should be casted in general roles as well.
I agree with Ayushman regarding the idea where there should be a romcom of people from different states. And that would be so natural, esp. considering the fact that people from different places go different places to pursue studies and jobs.
Like how many people from different places of Indian comes to universities to study. Same way we go to other places to study.
Every uni has pupils from different states of India. Getting along, studying, fighting, arguing, partying, singing & dancing, travelling, addressing issues together as one, making memories.

Interestingly the movie is shot mostly in Karbi Anglong, in Assam.... We could see our Karbi people acting as well we could hear our language being spoken few times.. it's a proud moment for us too.
