I have been almost "bullied" for many years to speak right from the start. Whenever I was trying to talk I was feeling pushed and useless and in the end overwhelmed. I really find that system cruel. I am glad that your new video is about this topic. Your videos and your course along with an app that promotes comprehensible input are the only methods that help me understand and talk! I feel blessed for having found your channel.

You can't talk if you don't know the words yet. You'll just end up being frustrated if your vocabulary is too small. It'd be too much like Swiss cheese. Too many holes. Too many gaps in what you want to try to say. Then it doesn't come and you'd have to stop and look up a new word anyway. Better to learn 500 to 1000 words first (I think). I'm even aiming for more like 1500 - 2000. Otherwise you're only going to sound like you're at the level of a 3 year old child anyway.

Hello Lotta. What a pleasure it is to discover your channel. When I listen to these podcasts, I have to say that you are preaching to the choir. In other words, I completely agree with the method that you are proposing.
Regarding when to start speaking, have you heard of James Asher? He developed a teaching method called TPR, or Total Physical Response in which learners were given instructions combined with physical movement and were not asked to speak at all. Apparently, after about 60 hours of lessons, his students just started talking on their own. They knew enough by that point that they REALLY wanted to start speaking, and so they did!
I have question for you, please. What dialect of Finnish do you use when teaching? I am asking because I have a Glossika account and the sentence bank for Finnish is in the SW dialect.
Will I just confuse myself if I study these sentences versus the way you speak?
    Kiitos.

Thanks for your comment! I speak very neutral Finnish, with little dialect. I think it's because I'm from a Swedish-speaking region (but I'm a native Finnish speaker) so the Finnish in the region has always stayed very clear and basic in a way. I don't think it differs a lot from the Southern dialects, except that they cut words more than me :D

Kiitos tästä ajatuksesta, en tajunnut sitä ennen tätä videota, mä muistan tällaista noloa tunnetta, kun suomalainen tavallisessa keskustelussa odottaa 10 sekuuntia, kunnes mietin missä muodossa on seuraava sano, jonka mä haluan sanoa😂

    • @finnished

Hahaha aivan!!! Ja sit me ihmetellään et miks me ei pystytä käymään normaalia keskustelua :D

muuttaa!

Please, nearly all of your viewers make the same mistake. You know that puhekieli does not only include the use of shortened pronounces . I know that you try to simplify it for learners as best as you can, but still it looks pretty ridicilous when they try to make sentences and it looks something like "Terve! MÄ olen ollut suomen kielen oppimisen polulla nyt ainakin 3 kuukautta 👍 MÄ pidän sinun videosta todella paljon"
Feels like a translator made the saying, but with a use of short-version pronounce. In your videos, aspects and abilities of shortening verbs, adverbs, omitting vowels, slangin sanat, replacing vowels (somewhere) are being overlooked even though knowing all these would be quite good for people watching your vids. But still, thanks for your content. Peace ✌️
