Do you have segmented clips of these (maybe TH-cam shorts)? I own Blade of the Immortal and would love to use your review of that from here for some people I want to talk into seeing it but who wouldn't sit through a whole video like this. ...just a thought PS. As far as I go, I don't miss your full videos...love them 👍
I never used Tubi until I found this channel. I couldn’t believe how many amazing lesser known movies are on that platform. I couldn’t believe it when I saw Tubi had The Quiet Earth. I was shocked to find that and movies of that caliber for free.
Isn't it freaking awesome I have tubi myself along with Pluto TV and Pluto TV is awesome as hell as well why just the other day I was watching some old-school Beavis and Butt-head I couldn't stop cracking up laughing boy I remember how funny Beavis and Butthead used to be
The Game. If only I could go back and experience it for the first time. I watched it in the theater and the look on people's faces after the movie was over. Like what the hell just happened. Amazing movie.
I don't know if I've ever agreed with a post more in my life. One of those movies like the horror movie April fool's Day where once you've watched the movie once you can never put that back in the can you know you can never get past the holy s*** ending. And I understand it requires a whole lot of willing suspension of disbelief to really fully enjoy it but I bought in completely because Fincher's style at the time was really A+. So basically I just let go and enjoy it and at least on that first viewing it was one of my favorite movie going experiences of the 90s.
Can you explain the appeal to me? To me it was a long format demo for practical effects like Avatar was a long format demo for CGI. It had very little plot, and that little still had holes. It is slightly more watchable if you mute the dialog and just look at the pretty pictures. Where is the rewatch potential I'm missing?
It sounds like you're more interested in quality screenwriting and acting than the other aspects of cinema. That's fine, but of you're deliberately shunning those other elements to pursue "something higher," then I think you're missing out on a lot. If not and you genuinely don't naturally connect with what many call "spectacle," I'd recommend giving a little bit of effort to develop a personal appreciation for those elements. For Avatar, it's less about "the CG" and more about experiencing the wonder of an alien world and generally that sense of the fantastic that many haven't felt since they were children and heard or saw stories of something otherworldly and special that captivated them or evoke awe and something enjoyable but difficult to describe. Fury Road is the embodiment of a statement given by George Miller, the director (I can't remember if he was quoting someone else or not), "action is the purist syntax of cinema." Aesthetics in motion for the purpose of causing something to happen. The movie was developed using storyboards (3500~ panels) and *then* a screenplay was made for the actors to read and use. It is a visual-first movie that treats action as a legitimate art in cinema. It is one of the only action movies to win multiple Oscars (with pretty much only The Revenant preventing a clean sweep) for this reason. While screenplay and acting are important elements, cinema is not a novel or a stage play or a painting or photograph. Fury Road understands and embraces that fully, having enough of a story to give substance to what we see on screen (which, yes, definitely has holes and many decently-sized imperfections). A couple of examples of purely visual (well, with some music and non-studio sounds) cinema, Koyaanisqatsi and Baraka are usually concerned good picks. Anyway, that's the "serious" answer. The short of it is that Mad Max: Fury Road is damn impressive, has cool and gritty aesthetics, and is just a lot of fun to watch. It is filmed incredibly well and doesn't hold our hand with the world-building. I also often describe it as basically a Wagnerian opera on wheels, in the desert, with guns and explosions, and without any singing or songs. If you watch it in that way, it may make a bit more sense, viewing experience-wise. Hope that helps!
@@OkyDooky It sounds like you are looking at what technical boxes for a specific art form something checks. I've seen the same thing at car shows, and the cars that win all the categorizes except the purely subjective judges chaise award are usually usually so ugly as the be almost painful to look at. For actual entertainment, a terrible plot is simply too distracting to me. Its like looking at a house in the neighborhood that may be well framed but has a peeling paint-job in multiple clashing colors. The behind the scenes features on Fury road were more entertaining than the actual movie because they just focused on the impressive achievements of the practical effects. Similarly, with Avatar any wonder at the beautifully animated environment was ruined by the nonsensical and rather offensive plot.
Whoa, this list was exhausting. I needed a nap after. Wow. One Banger after another. My desk top was exploding. Tubi, who knew? Well, you did obviously. Some of these I watched on release in a theater and then owned the disc and I have totally forgotten all about them. I am a big fan of well-done over-the-top cinema. Thanks DVD.
HIGHLY recommend number 9: Doomsday. Watching the stunning Rhona Mitra opening the shipping container = Awesome. You must watch this movie. Mr. VanDam was very accurate when he recommended this movie.
I stumbled across Elizabeth harvest a little over a year ago. I hadn't heard a word about it but really enjoyed the Ex Machina style story. Another killer video from you thank you so much
Great FLICK CONNECTION Darren. Good to see Escape From New York ranked #3. Many thanks for sharing with us. Really appreciate the time you spend on each synopsis 👍👍👍
We Summon The Darkness was SHOCKINGLY wonderful. Watched it when it first came to streaming. Fell in love. Then made my bestie watch it & he fell in love. It's darkly hilarious. And not too bad for a B movie, coming from someone who loathes B movies.
found 68 kill from another one of your lists and cannot recommend it enough. It's a fun ride start to finish. One of my favorites of all time. AnnaLynne McCord is fantastic. She's so watchable. i love her. Excision is a slower movie but weird and kind of gross but she's great in it as is Traci Lords in a very different role.
Tubi is incredible; it takes work to dig through the dross, but the gems that are buried here are undeniable. The Shout Factory section in particular is a damn revelation - a ton of hard-to-find Wernor Herzog films, just sitting there for FREE.
'Bone Tomahawk' and 'Blur Ruin' are two of the best motion pictures made in the past 25 years and PROOF that you don't need a Gadzillion dollars to do it. A talented cast and crew, a story and a script and the will ... Solid stuff.
Dude, found you yesterday and today I held my nose and watched Red Hill. (I hate ads) Holy Crap what a fun ride that was. Loved the twists so much I kind of forgot the ads. Brovo nice job!
I seen Showgirls in the theater. Although it does have its awful aspects it has some great ones too. It just has a certain charm to it. Plus, Glenn Plumber is such a great actor. As usual, Great Video bro!!! 💯

Belly changed the way hip hop was depicted in film. I can see why you think the acting is bad but that's just because you're not part of the culture. It's actually extremely accurate.

My favorites has to be Death Race, People under the Stairs, Doomsday, Bone Tomahawk, Hardcore Henry, Blue Ruin, Escape from New York, and Mad Max Fury Road. I can never see these movies enough. There are some on there I have seen that liked a lot too. Thanks for an amazing list! There are definitely ones I haven’t seen but must check out. 🖤😻🖤🤘🏼🖤
wow, I love your recommendations but this may be my favorite one yet. The Game was incredible! I feel like it's the kind of movie that could never get made today. It reminded me of Knick of Time (1995)
One knock against Tubi..... They do not offer "unrated" or NC17 versions of films. I recently watched (and was severely disappointed) by Feast & Bad lieutenant.
I would recommend, I Dont Feel at Home in this World Anymore(2017) starring Elijah Wood & Melanie Lynskey. Its a fantastic movie that not many people have heard of.
This is a really good list. Belly was a hood classic, if you liked that i would recommend Shottas like a Jamaican version starring Ky-Mani Marley and Spragga Benz.
The Game is one of those movies where you can still find surprises in the details, even if you've seen it before. There's also some Christian allegory in there, if you know what you're looking for.
If You're scared of Clowns, use a pillow when watching "The Game", I'm still freaked out and I saw it when it was released in 1997 when I was 30yrs old 😵😵😵, you will enjoy yourself✌✌✌😉😉😉😁😁😁
I'm glad you included The game in your list. I saw it when it first came out and I think it's one of the best. But tell your fans that in order to keep up they have to watch every second of it. If you miss 10 seconds of the movie, you will be asking what is real and what is the game.
Totally agree with you on Kurt Russell, two personal comedy favorites, Big Trouble in the Little China and Captain Ron. Watched The Game again last week after The Killer. Did wince at Showgirls. I'll take Gina G. in Bound with Jenn Tilly instead.
Recommendations -- if you can find them: Death Note (the Live Action Japanese one, not the Netflix one) The Silent Partner The Final Countdown Something for Everyone A Little Romance Deathstalker Hopscotch Bitchslap
Hardcore Henry feels like it pulled its entire premise from the video for 'Smack My Bitch Up' by The Prodigy. And that works, for about about 30 minutes.
Hardcore henry was actually filmed with a rig attached to the actors chest. Also, last i heard they were making an excape from new York remake but they were genderbending Snake Plisken
Dr Squatch would be great soap if it wasn’t so expensive, the scent lasted past the shower, the bar didn’t disappear so fast, and if it actually got you clean.
When I was growing up in the 70s there was maybe one highly edited movie to watch a night, maybe. If I would have had something like Tubi my 14 year old mind would have been blown.
Interesting: the Tubi list is sooo much better than the Netflix list. Death Race 2000 is in my top 10 list of all-time movies. The ending is iconic. You should not watch Showgirls unless you can also get access to the Schmader commentary. Uh, you didn't mention Daddario is in We Summon the Darkness!?! That's why I watched it. Furiosa made Fury Road better.

I think I've watched Mad Max Fury Road more than any other movie. It's packed with greatness non-stop and never gets old.

Tubi has a lot of great foreign films and the commercial breaks are relatively short.

Love your movie reviews and lists. Don't know if you've recommended it, but Rupture was a trippy movie that I think might make one of your lists.
I use Tubi to watch Babylon 5 and Lexx. Farscape too. Plus the great sci-Fi gems and horror I find. I use it more than Netflix.
Thanks for this nice list of flicks... also, first thing I noticed was your shirt. The Dude does Abide!!
Simply put. You're my go to for video picks. Love your work. keep it going. TH-cam would be less relevant without you.

Neil Marshall is a great director.
There are two movies names Doomsday. Which year is the the movie you mentioned ?
Who's shooting at WHOM! Who's after WHOM!! Someone had to say it.
I hear you, Ricardo. What I find so much worse is the use of "to get" instead of "to be".
I seen Showgirls in the theater.
Although it does have its awful aspects it has some great ones too.
It just has a certain charm to it.
Plus, Glenn Plumber is such a great actor.

The only way to appreciate any Verhoeven movie is to treat anything he intended as deep social commentary as if it was meant to be clumsy humor.

Blade of the Immortal is 100% top notch… well worth the watch. ❤
I would recommend, I Dont Feel at Home in this World Anymore(2017) starring Elijah Wood & Melanie Lynskey. Its a fantastic movie that not many people have heard of.

Now it got me started watching The Lost Room.
the game!! LOVE it, great rec

Doomsday starring the bootleg version of Kate Beckinsale Rhona Mitra.
Good list! Anybody ever tell you that you look like Joe Mangianello?
The Game is an excellent film! As long as Se7en
Totally agree with you on Kurt Russell, two personal comedy favorites, Big Trouble in the Little China and Captain Ron. Watched The Game again last week after The Killer. Did wince at Showgirls. I'll take Gina G. in Bound with Jenn Tilly instead.
Just finally got around to watching Death Race 2000 a couple of weeks ago on Tubi, and it's a good movie. It's pretty out there, but in a good way.
Recommendations -- if you can find them:
Death Note (the Live Action Japanese one, not the Netflix one)
The Silent Partner
The Final Countdown
Something for Everyone
A Little Romance
Deathstalker
Hopscotch
Bitchslap
The Game was the first movie I ever watched that blew my mind (middle school). It holds a special place for that reason.
my goto channel to discover hidden gems! Thank, great work!
68 Kill is a wild movie, I do not like horror movies, but I did watch this one, disturbing.
That's the coolest tee I've seen in a long, long while. Where can I get one? I grok "Abide."
I haven't thought about Doomsday for years. I loved that movie. I was kind of obsessed with Rhona Mitra.
I friggin love The Game, watch it every time it's streaming. Also you talking about your shower made me 😂
Excellent picks as usual but, you really need to find, “Killing Time”
Hardcore Henry feels like it pulled its entire premise from the video for 'Smack My Bitch Up' by The Prodigy. And that works, for about about 30 minutes.
Agree on Blue Ruin. Fabulous.
The Game is an awesome movie
Such a great list, dude!
I love Doomsday. Very underrated.
The Horseman 2008 is an excellent gruesome thriller also.😮
Great, interesting list. Subbed - you got me with Doomsday in the top 10. LOVE that one. Criminal it's not more well-known.
Blue Ruin is so so good!!
Hardcore henry was actually filmed with a rig attached to the actors chest. Also, last i heard they were making an excape from new York remake but they were genderbending Snake Plisken
It will be shit then.
How i ever missed seeing fury road!! Very damn good movie!!! Thanks for that recommended pick!!!
They just uploaded the original Dr. Who series! BTW, does Amazon own Tubi?
Dr Squatch would be great soap if it wasn’t so expensive, the scent lasted past the shower, the bar didn’t disappear so fast, and if it actually got you clean.
I love Showgirls!
Fury road is incredible
Love The Game
When I was growing up in the 70s there was maybe one highly edited movie to watch a night, maybe. If I would have had something like Tubi my 14 year old mind would have been blown.
People under the stairs is an excellent movie.
Mad Max Fury Road = 2 Must see Docs : Making of & Vehicles 🚙🚙🚗🛒
Interesting: the Tubi list is sooo much better than the Netflix list.
Death Race 2000 is in my top 10 list of all-time movies. The ending is iconic.
You should not watch Showgirls unless you can also get access to the Schmader commentary.
Uh, you didn't mention Daddario is in We Summon the Darkness!?! That's why I watched it.
Furiosa made Fury Road better.
Thanks
Another cool thing about tubi is they carry the troma movies like nukem high and the toxic avenger.
Man do I enjoy your channel!
