    Great vid, Richard. I have a set of Rapidograph ink pens from my drafting days, and use them to ink my sketches. I got away from them for the last little while, focusing more on the Micron ink pens and other multiliners. But the Rapidograph are workhorses. Thanks to your vid, I'm going to give them a long overdue cleaning and get back to inking with these pens!

      Yup. I've been using Microns for a while because of the convenience, and got a similar but refillable Copic Multiliner, a few days ago. The issue I have with both pens is that when the ink starts running lower, the edges of the nib become dry, so I can't skate along the edges of lines when I'm building them. I had to break out my old Rapidographs and I'm glad I did. Great tools.

    Thank you for posting this video. A couple of years ago, I took apart my pen and was unable to get the fine needle part of a 000 pen back into the cartridge, but using your method of jiggling I was able to get it back in.

    I just bought a set of these Rapidographs for drawing. I had a vintage Koh-I-Nor Rapidograph from Germany that I used a long time ago that I no longer have. I really liked it for drawing but it was old and I don't think I had the right ink so it was always a hit or miss proposition using them to draw with. It may have been a really fine tip also. So, I decided to get a four-pen set of this new style Rapidograph with 30,35,50, and 60 size nibs. Your video is a really good demo of how to break down these modern USA Rapidograph pens for cleaning. And I also heard others recommend the Ultradraw ink. I imagine draftsmen would want the faster drying ink to keep from smearing and ruining a large technical drawing but artists would want a slower drying ink that won't tend to dry out in the pen. Again great video for the Rapidograph newbies!

    I love the fun sing-songy 'like that' and 'like that', made me laugh. Also, you gave a very thorough demonstration. I've watched others that do not take it all the way down to the needle/pin. I pulled mine out of the dust. Very dry. I'm adding ammonia to the water to help with the hard crust. Thank you.

    I've been routinely dealing with issues with the .18 nibs (the pink color coated ones in the video) and I'm going to get in the habit of soaking them when they're not in use. That's good advice, though I have recently gotten a lot of the .18 points that didn't work when I first bought them. It is a royal pain. I can generally get anything larger than that to work even if I haven't used it in a very long time.

    Thank you for this awesome video! I was recommended to try these pens for painting tattoo flash because I have never been able to line with a nib (5 1/2) and not put all my weight into it essentially blowing all the lines out. These are fragile and make me want to be gentler. Thanks for showing how to clean and fill these!

      Michael Telles the zero is very thin. I've not had a lot of good luck with a good tip on a 0. That small is almost unnecessary because a good 2 will get just as fine of a line. And as you saw with my 3 even it can go really really thin too. I'll do some brush inking videos this week.

    I haven’t used it yet, but I just went to Michaels and bought Higgins black India as they didn’t have the regular refills there. On the back it says it works for technical pens. Would it suffice? I’ve never used it before.

    Don't the inks contain shellac? Which will dry hard and you'll never get the shellac coating off the nib simply by running it under water. Or maybe I'm thinking of another brand.

    • @RichardFriendartist
      @RichardFriendartist  7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      a micron or pigma pen is a marker. (meaning it has a felt tip) these are metal tips (hence the metal needle). I will show in a new video some hacks for microns though. Hope that helps!
