    At 11:20 the drill thing you pulled out is actually a lathe center. Looks like a dead center as opposed to a live center. I used them a lot when working on my dad's shop grinding hydraulic cylinders.

  • @RemyDarke
    @RemyDarke 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    First item you found is a Morse Taper tool. Could of been a drill, cutter or just an MT reducer. Looks like MT3 or 4. They're still common on manual lathes, mills and drill presses. Some of the tooling you pulled up at 4:15 looked indexable. You should clean it up and see if you can remove the lock screw. People also buy decent shape brazed carbide tools to resharpen also. Betting than just scrapping them.

    Actually, those carbide cutters are mostly steel. The carbide is only on the tip and weighs less than an ounce. It would take a lot of those cutters to get a pound of carbide. You also have to separate the carbide from the steel shank to get the carbide price.

  • @erneststorch9844
    @erneststorch9844 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Your right the scrap price for carbide is very high but that is for solid carbide. What you have I believe is small pieces of
    carbide brazed to a piece of steel. You would have to heat up the tip red hot soften the braze to remove the carbide. The carbide tip wouldn't be worth that much unless you got a lot of them.
    In my grinding shop I save scrap carbide till I have enough to sell it to a scrap dealer. Carbide is very heavy and it doesn't take a lot to add up.

    What's left of a railing, at the angle it would go to steps. That is one strong magnet to pick up all those bits at one time. Yep, Alex found a drill. Looks like the top plate on a boiler or water heater. Lathe center. All those rings may be internal parts from a lathe machine, that would be my guess. Huge flat head screwdriver.
    Nice finds, especially those carbide bits worth more money than regular scrap.
