We lived across the street from Mr. & Mrs.Jones. On New Year's Day my folks had our street's party at the house. Dad had memorized this song and started singing it while it played. He grabbed Mrs. Jones and started dancing with her, everybody started clapping and laughing. It's one of my best memories.

I am saddened to having discovered a few days ago that neither of them are around anymore. One of them died from cancer, and another one of them due to mistaken identity was shot and killed. Rest in power Mc Fadden and Whitehead.
Dancing was everything back then. I was a DJ back in those rarefied days. This was one of my absolute favorite records to mix. Long, Long overlays. The timing and pitch on this was perfect. This used to give me goosebumps in the DJ booth.
Why is breaking, cabbage patch, peewee Herman, electric slide..etc considered "stupid twine"? Don't get me wrong, that's one of my jazz, especially the remix.

I lived in communist Poland in 1980. I could get "Radio Luxembourg" on my AM radio dial, which came out of London. Radio Luxembourg played this song a lot. It reminds me of those times: Hoping for freedom for Poland, better times in Europe and my own youth when everything seemed possible..

Our women were more desirable, times were simpler, Saturdays were sacred because of Saturday Morning Cartoons, Soul Train, the Kung Fu Theater, Weekday Afternoons whether it was PBS or regular TV, not to mention social gatherings, and the SWC (Southwestern Conference)!
