When people try to argue that bands like My Chemical Romance are not real emo, while saying that Sunny Day Real Estate is, I can't help not to cringe because they are just as fake emo as My Chemical Romance (plus the pretentiousness). As a guy who grew up through the emo era with boomer parents who love AC/DC. This is the cover I never knew I needed. This works perfectly as an emo song.

The 2000's stuff you just mentioned treads more into metalcore, but has emo elements etc (all those bands are sick btw, though I never really got into AA or Escape the Fate). I was listening to bands like My Chemical Romance, Medina Lake, Senses Fail, Brand New, Funeral For A Friend, Saosin Back in 2004/5 So this track is a great parody of that sound
A lot of people would say the 'Real Emo' bands are the ones coming out of the Midwest USA in the 1990s like American Football, Sunny Day Real estate etc, with modern examples being like, Free Throw, Mom Jeans, Hospital Bracelet, Daephine, Riley! And more. But its all opinions and people will probably default to saying that 2004-10 period was where emo music really hit its stride.

I never really got into the emo genre overall, and it seems like most people assiciated it with what I would consider more pop-punk bands, but I did get into the band Silverstein. Their album "This is How the Wind Shifts" has pretty similar vibes to this if you want to check it out. Its also kind if a concept where songs on the second half correlate to the first half (Massachusetts and California for example.)

@@thedaniplanet it helps define the era/styles better. all light hearted here, the cure DEFINITELY sounds different from how AFI sounds, but they love their cover of Just Like Heaven. When you love music, you notice the different flavors that are genres/styles

Hitting some crazy Hawthorne Heights vibes on the verse riffs and then into some wild Taking Back Sunday style harmonies, the breakdown sounded like you were channeling some Underoath. Seriously amazing vocals dude, I know sometimes you goof around in the videos (which I love) but I like that you took this more serious and really channeled that angst and paid respect to the genre. The overall song structure was VERY derivative of the band Sydney. Like it might as well have been a Sydney cover lmao. Saosin, Taking Back Sunday, and The Used all have certain tendencies I borrowed too (the guitar is very Saosin-based, the layered bridge vocals are a TBS vibe, the ending is inspired by The Used)
The hey hey hey, on the other hand… that was AC/DC! The original back in black does those, so I just like… did that, but within the context of an emo song :)

wow, i gotta go listen to the original cause i dont recall it at all but this is a masterpiece. the arrangement, the production, the cleans the screams, just killed it. you always do a great job and they are always fun, but this is legit next level for you. when you wrapped it up did it feel that way? what did you think when you were done?
also, what i love about this style and time of emo/screamo was the subtle uses of double bass on the drums. reminds me of matchbook romances greatest fall. just a little double bass goes along way when timed perfectly and not overdone and i really appreciated it in the break down. ill have to play this on better headphones to pick up all the other nuances that my shitty hearing cant hear much these days.
