I hate relic guitars!! I've hated them since the first time I ever saw them. They ruined that guitar by burning the neck. The trussrod is for keeping the neck straight. That brown colour never comes out and always looks like boxwood and not maple. Some of these features are nice but not needed by me.

Hey Landon! I should clarify- I hate reliced guitars but nos is great. To me, nos guitars look like a well loved and gracefully aged instrument whereas a reliced guitars look like abused and battered pieces of shit. I just can’t understand why anyone would pay new guitar money for something that looks like shit - but new old stock looks like something that’s been loved and cared for - your guitar is absolutely beautiful! So NOS, yes! Reliced, HELL NO!

That Strat is spectacular! As far as relics go, I have done a total 180 on them over the past couple years. I bought old guitars and made them look new. Actually, I thought relic’d guitars were for posers. Then I thought, “Why should I care WHY somebody else likes their guitar?” Then I heard the explanations about how relic’d guitars FEEL. That sold me. Plus, it’s a way to.own a great guitar without the fear of playing it hard. Scratches and dings? Who cares?

Interesting how they went for a 11 inch radius instead of just good ol' number 12 inch. Still, much better than 9.5 or the 7.25 string chocker radii (radiuses). Beautiful guitar there.

I got my dream Strat........in 1996. Bought a used 93 deluxe plus after reading 1 of those guitar magazines stating this model is as close as you'll find from the factory. Am doing the relic thing 1 day at a time. In fact 1 of my outside gigs. I sent the guitar against the amp on blacktop. Got some tiny gouges from the asphalt. Just lightly sanded them a little smoother the other day. Not gone but not as heavy. It's got a butt ugly yellow color (vintage blonde) that I really didn't like from the time I picked it up at G C. But it has magic that keeps me playing a lot. And it sounds do good. In fact when I shopped for this next to it was a pretty blue same model but rosewood fretboard. Didn't feel it in this pretty guitar like I felt in the yellow 1. So if color is your thing don't forget a real 30 yrs down the road ,is that color gonna make you a better player? L Sensors, F Floyd Rose bridge, roller nut, locking tuners, TBX knob. Never changed a thing except add the Hipshot Tremsetter and crank the bridge to whammy up and down. 27 yrs ago and haven't touch an adjustment yet. Needs fret work now but 1st problem in all these yrs. When the magazine said "As close to custom shop as you will get " . Guess I gotta believe today. Also picked up a L P studio for $800 10 yrs ago. I did a lot of changes to this 1 based on what's done to my Strat. Kluson locking tuners. Tusc XL nut, Tonespro locking bridge, alum tailpiece, CTS 500k pots, Garrett cloth wiring, 50's wiring style, Switchcraft switch and jack. Did some shielding inside so with 496/500 pups it's a little quieter. Not much. Definitely wilder than the Strat.

Sweet GT11! New Old Stock (NOS Fender) or Vintage Original Spec (VOS Gibson) light relicing isn't too destructive, though it's not for me. But heavy relicing a high end guitar guitar seems like buying a new Aventador then taking a blow torch to it. It doesn't make it look old, just makes it look ruined.

That's where I am getting with the Strats I have the Bridge pickup really needs to be jumpered & wired to a tone pot. For a Strat to have 3 pickups, 5 positions & then be short a Volume knob (like a LP has) & have tone control for every pickup selection except the Bridge is the lack of control that so many other guitars have for blending tones. Since the more modern pickup selector switches are PCB boards, how hard would it be to add a jumper like a computer motherboard has ?

The scent is from the case manufacturer. They treat it with a vanilla bean perfume to mask the scent of the hide glue, which smells horrible until it dries all the way. Nitro lacquer tends to absorb scents far better than poly. If the scent wears off, lightly spray a pump of Chemical Bros vanilla room freshener (which is what I believe is used in the cases) into the accessories compartment to recharge the scent. Do that maybe twice a year and you’ll never lose that scent.

Nice! And it's blue! How blue? As blue as blue can get! And then some! I'd say! As blue as the sky blue! If the sky was a darker blue! It's more like a cobalt blue! But different! You know, blue! It's blue! Nice! Landon!! Congrats! On your blue strat! Thanks! And it's blue too!😊

It's the nitro finish. It has that vanilla like smell. My Gibson Firebird and its case also have it. Love it

Nice axe! I didn't see stainless steel frets listed in the specs, was that an option?

For me paying extra for something I will be doing myself over time for free is ridiculous. The first ding always hurts but it is inevitable unless your guitar is a closet queen.

Wow. That's so awesome you got to keep the guitar, too! Hit me up, Sweetwater. I want that GT Telecaster! 😉🎸

As as I have only now a busker as I have not gigged with a band since the Pandemic, I am still just a little school math teacher and cannot spend this much on one guitar. In 2006 I spent $1,700 for an American deluxe with the white pearl coat. 2006 . This year after 14 years I switch to the noiseless for version pickups.. S-1 switch still good option.

I actually have a friend who works at sweetwater that ask me to come in and bring my Fraser guitars and I did a comparison with my Frasers and a GT11 I really liked the GT 11 but my Frasers sounded better I lol see if I can find it and share it with you those necks are just sick!!

she💃 looks nice ,sounds nice -congrats - have fun and be carefull with her nitro finish has the tendency to relic itself🥰and lay your other modells beside - no chance - she´s got handwired singel coils and The Wiring (Fat50Strat half Blender) that is the coolest for a Strat

Relics to me are like special effects in movies. I don't mind if they're not obvious.

U didn’t mentioned the truss rod adjustment at headstock instead that the heel. It’s pretty uncommon for an hi-end custom shop, and literally divide people‘s opinion. How do u feel about it? What do u think about it?

    • @landonbailey
      @landonbailey  9 หลายเดือนก่อน

It doesn’t bother me. I rarely do truss rod adjustments

That is a Wow Strat yes. Agreed it needs to feel and sound great then a few minor relics don't matter to me either. Look at Derrick Trucks SG for example of a brilliant guit and many others

If relicing looks dirty, like there's old motor oil on the wood, I don't like it.
I would like this guitar to show the ash wood.
    Non dirty relicing!

Congrats man! Absolutely stunning! Were you scared to play it knowing what it costs?? I think I'd be a little apprehensive 😜 Now get a guitar from Wildwood Custom and compare the two. Then we can have a definitive answer as to which custom shop offering is worth spending all of your hard-earned money on!! Woo!
