A moment of appreciation for all the incredible rexes we've been getting lately, from Rebor and BOTM to PNSO's masterpiece. Also I think you using the Beasts rex as a comparison is incredibly helpful in getting a sense of scale. Thanks for the review Andy.

Would have been a perfect update to the JP rex design. They somehow perfectly kept the JP feel but added new "accurate" features.

@@laseriedeladilophosaure9246ye we do, if u look at other land animals today, none have sticky out teeth. Also, the teeth would be much more damaged if the didn't have lips. You just want a jp rex

this tyrannosaurus is brilliant, it has accurate main bodyplan but it still has a stylistic look that might also remind of the jurassic park tyrannosaurus, i love this model

Great looking Tyrannosaur from Dragon no doubt about it but the $139.99 price tag is a little much for me. Great review as always Andy!

I like how this T-Rex looks like a cross between the Jurassic Park T-Rex and the Prehistoric Planet T-Rex.

That thick neck seam tho :( Wish they made the connection right behind the head to make it less visible.

I'm liking this scientific rex trend. I'd be interested in what Papo would come up with if they tried.

Même si le rex scientifique est assez débatu surtout en se qui concerne les lèvres comparé au rex jp ou on n'est sur à ce qu'il ressemblé dans le film

Very sad that the updated version of this one has reversed the lipped look and given it a much more JP-esque head [it looks like a slightly longer TLW Buck head]. They've also reintroduced the outdated slipped tooth look, contrary to this one where they reseated the teeth in the sockets to get it to look how it would have in life.
That said, I do like that it seems to follow the look of the Dino Crisis T. rex. It comes across as a counterpart to their Dino Crisis-themed Giga a couple of years ago.

I really misjudged this piece. There isn't actually a JP angry eyebrow, the preorbital hornlets & postorbital bosses are indeed separate. From conversations with Zubin Eric Dutta , the large postorbital bosses are within the realm of possibility, although the lacriminal hornlet is probably exaggerated. Not a bad representation

I'm always confused when it comes to T-rex skulls. Most of the ones exhibited have bulky and short snouts, and yet, we often see that kind of representation (deep snout), as if they were juveniles. A simple Google search shows that most skull fossils don't look anything like the one this figure showcases. What do you guys think of this?

    • @ronniepatterson2827

I think when we compare how many Tyrannosaurs we have unearthed, compared to whats now & maybe forever still hidden from us, the jury is still out on all evolutions, mutations, & family trees of dinosaurs. There could be a prehistoric island full of Tyrannosaurs with skulls exactly like this cool looking beast. The target keeps moving, & will still keep moving even with top notch A I tools helping paleontology studies in the future. Thats said, lets just admire it as is, for exactly what it is. A cool work of art, resulting in a damn fine looking, & possibly accurate somewhere, Tyrant Lizard King! : )

You are unfortunately incorrect. The skulls including the current best most well preserved ever found named Maximus whom is a confirmed adult specimen has the elongated jaw and this model is scary accurate and the best ive ever seen. Maximus has the highest level of preservation and the skull has maintained near perfect structure. There are a few common mistakes ppl make when comparing skulls to models First if your using pictures understand 2 d pictures lack depth so if the skull is at a slight angle with the nose closer to the camera then the eye socket its going to distort what you see making the closer areas look larger and the further areas look smaller and then the snout will loose length and when there is a slight angle unless it is high resolution then you understand how this all works your not even going to be able to tell it is slightly angled. Another problem is most skulls are reconstructed because the real skull is crushed a perfect example of this is legendary fossil rex Sue the skull attached to skeleton is 100% recast the real skull is near complete but unfortunately is crushed and the upper jaw and head is badly distorted rhe bones are still in matrix as well there is detailed information and pictures of all of this along with the maximus skull which has no sediment or matrix attached at all. Then a larger problem for some ppl that I had to overcome was the 1993 Jurassic Park t rex was so incredible before it was able to capture near 3d images and movement that is the most realistic possible way a t rex can be represented currently but they head and body design was purposely altered in slight way to not match the skull structure of real existence fossils. Now the problem is ppl like me and most likely you and many ppl were so dramatically impacted in a positive way by the 1993 jurrasic park design that is burns the false image into our minds so strongly it can be hard to to change that image and then some ppl see the difference but love the film version more so refuse to except reality, another perfect example is how ppl still can’t except theropods with feathers even the ones with fossilized proof of it. Now I said I had this issue but after some time I was able to shake the jp dinosaurs including the rex from my mind and except reality and now I much prefer the scientific accurate ones and the jp versions are becoming more like movie monsters but still look like living animals so I will always love them. With that said this rex is now my favorite for sure.
