    Two magnificent instruments. Mr. Blackmore is the true master of rhythm and lead. Outrageous musical composition. Yngwie may have his style and I have seen him many times, but I know Mr. Blackmore is the King of guitar.

    Well, I am 54 yo, and half of my time passed on stage and in rehearsal rooms.
    Usually we loose the treble in hearing, the more we get older, yet, to my ears, the Blackmore edition has a fullier sound, more bite, maybe a little more trebles.
    They are both good, but for a Blackmore kind of sound You have to choose, yes, the Blackmore edition. IMHO....... Oh, and I used a very good pair of headphones to better compare them. Thanks a lot for the video!! It's always a pleasure to listen someone playing (very well!) the old way!👍

    • @somekindofdude1130
      @somekindofdude1130 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      littlebritain64 it’s the bass and the mids that give the illusion of more trebles because you cannot hear the higher pitch when a sound is in the lower hz level you have the filling that is fuller and has more volume. On the other malmsteen’s guitar’s tone is very high pitched and makes it sound thinner.
      By the way I wish you reach 100 years old and still be able to play guitar 🤘🏻

  • @borislavtashkov2326
    @borislavtashkov2326 7 ปีที่แล้ว +8

    I've tried both and prefer the Blackmore one. It fits my style a little better than the Malmsteen one. It has a little bit chunkier neck which fits the hand prefectly. The scalloping is made with intelligence, it gets more and more scalloped when you go to the high frets. I also prefer a three way switch. I kind of miss the point of the middle pickup when it comes to rock music. I also like the sound of it better. It has more balls and mid response The Malmsteen sounds great, but it has a bit too much highs for my taste. The Blackmore one is also almost half the price.

    • @Swampster70
      @Swampster70 5 ปีที่แล้ว +8

      Just make sure that:
      - You have enough springs in the back
      - The nut is cut correctly (at least wide enough) for the strings and has some graphite type of lube
      - If you use string trees on the headstock, make sure that they're smooth and the strings don't bind and if they're the roller type, make sure they actually roll freely.
      - If you have new strings, stretch the bejesus out of them otherwise you'll have all sorts of issues.
      - Wrap the strings properly around the tuning post and give it an overlap and at least 6 full turns.
      - ...and most importantly, if you push on the bar make sure you also pull it back slightly past the normal pitch.

      Well, it doesn't sound better here. That's for sure. It feels like butter around the neck too. It's just a superior quality weapon. The two players are one, musical, and the other trying to be, but lost in the flash. As technically proficient as he can be.

    • @StaySharpFacas
      @StaySharpFacas 7 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Larry Toering malmsteen can be very music, it's just he doesn't go that path 98% of the time. But he can certainly do it, about the tone some minor adjustments to the amp would make the YJM sound the way it's supposed to. It's just his signature sound that made him famous. I like the strat, I'm sure I can get great tone on my setup, I'll go for the YJM looks. Great too. I still have my equipment but just lost all interest in playing, that's a shame. I have been flying Helicopters for 37 years and hung up my flight suit 6 months ago.. Too dangerous of a profession... Again you have RB's style down pat I like your tremelo work awesome bro

    Damn it i don't know which one is better.I love both,i've tried both and they
    are both awesome.Same goes with the artists.Yngwie has amazing techniques
    and skills and can play propably bit better than Ritchie but Ritchie is my favourite since i was a little kid...Fuck i can't decide...I'll buy both

      Very few truly fervent tech heads and Ritchie’s die-hard devotees know
      that inside every Ritichie’s guitar there was a magical “secret box"
      that drastically changed his overall guitar tone - that’s been disclosed
      on some official R.B. guitar forum by his tech., who actually built
      them for Ritchie. I believe that he slightly modified them as time went
      on (and I hope he still makes them now) but at the time he was charging
      about $300 for each and only needed to know what period in Ritchie’s
      career (meaning which album) a prospective buyer was interested in, as
      each box represented a different guitar tone. So, those, who buy
      Ritchies “signature” guitar and think that he plays the same thing
      himself are in for a disappointing surprise. Pretty much every aspect of
      his guitars was modified and nothing was “standard”, starting with
      mix-n-match multi-caliber Italian strings.
      Just thought I’d share. :)

      As far as I know the "secret box" does not come in multiple different versions. And Dawk didn't ask me what era's tone I was interested in back when I ordered mine years ago. You might also be interested in the fact that Blackmore never used the SSL-4's, but Schecter F500T's. The Schecter pickups are much closer to regular singlecoils in terms of output (Mark Knopfler used them too). Instead, they offer a higher harmonic range due to the quarterpounder magnets. As for the strings, he did that stuff way back when hard rock still wasn't quiet mainstream. Blackmore's hybrid set (RB77 by Picato) has been available for many years now.

      I don't think there are many of us with an MTC from Dawk.

      Luckily it seems like Bernd from BSM has been successful at reverse-engineering it, from what I hear his spice box sounds just like the original unit.

      Have any link? I'm still using the MTC dark installed in my 1974 "backup" Strat from Ritchie (from the final Deep Purple tour-from what I was told) I'd like to find another for my other guitars.

    Dude that is some abrasive whammy bar use!! I mean that in the best way possible! You are one hell of a player! Are those standard Strat whammy bars or something different, just curious. Those string skipping licks are badass too! Thanks for posting

    Would the Richie Blackmore still be good for Yngwie style music. I was thinking of getting the Yngwie Malmsteen but I owned it before and it sounded more like his later tone I'm going for his early tone.

    hi there I wanted to ask you: If I were to buy one or the other, how to they compare, if they cost the same? For example, can you divebomb with the blackmore as well as with the YJM without getting out of tune? Are they the same built quality? ETc. if you could help me... I kow they are made in different places etc... but are they different in built quality and sound quality? or just a matter of taste? may be better nut in the YJM?

  • @BluesMan88

    I personally like Blackmore's signature guitar better because it has a balanced sound across all 6 strings. Nothing against Malmsteen's strat which definitely has a sharper, brighter tone but Blackmore's strat tone is smoother with more mid-range so it's easier to the ears

    Plusieurs questions :
    La Blackmore est elle scalopée sur tout le manche comme la Malmsteen ?
    Quel manche est le plus agréable ?
    Laquelle tient le mieux l'accordage après utilisation du vibrato ?
    Super vidéo comme d'hab

    I love them, both .. I was sure that the Malmsteen's Strat would be so savage in comparison to the Blackmore's .. but now I am also impressed with Blackmore's Strat, it sounds beyond expectations , as good as Malmsteen's but different ...

  • @richmills1

    this is fantastic - great playing! The Malmsteen sounds like it has hotter pickups so I'd lean towards the Blackmore strat but then I'd miss the neck/middle position... hmm.

    the mim gear has gotten real good but the malmsteen model i had in my hands was better. is the blackmoore still a 3 bolt neck? any how im going with the Yngwie model

  • @Geerladenlad

    I assume the Malmsteen Strat comes with the yjm fury pickups so I probably pick that one. Also the Malmsteen one comes with a scalloped neck so that's not for everyone.

    I own the malmsteen , but dig the darker tone on the Blackmore . I think you only get 2 pickups on Black as middle is a dummy pickup

    I WAS TO BUSY LISTENING AND WATCHING YOUR AWESOM PLAYING TO MAKE COMPARISONS HAHA. I'VE HAD BOTH, ONLY ONE OF THE RB AND PROBABLY 10 OF THE MALMSTEENS STILL HAVE 2 THE DUNCAN AND THE DIMARZZIO VERSIONS AND I DO PREFER THE YNGWIE STRAT. ACTUALLY IT'S ONE OF THE BEST STRATS MADE IN GENERAL IN MY OPINION. IT'S THE STRATIEST SOUNDING STRAT EVER PRODUCED, YOU WOULDN'T THINK THAT BUT SOMETHING ABOUT THE GIANT FRETS AND BRASS NUT + THE SCREW INSERTS AT THE NECK JOINT INSTEAD OF WOOD SCREWS STRAIGHT INTO WOOOD ALL LEND THEMSELVES TO A VERY TWANGY SOUND. I USE THAT GUITAR MORE FOR BLUES ROCK THAN ANYTHING ELSE AND OF COURS RIPPING SOME OLD SCHOOL YNGWIE SONGS. GREAT VIDEO.
