I believe you must have been aware that you are a regional scholarship winner some space of time before you travel. During my visa application do I just need to make a booking for accommodation and not necessarily pay for it or how can I navigate that part of the journey please?
Hi! From someone that is already in Italy: you can make a booking in some hotel or hostal and not necesary pay for it, or a refundable one in an Airbnb. But I reccommend to al least consider to make a real booking in any of the anterior options for 15 days, 20 days, even a month, because it is not that simple to find a room to rent in the long term, and some landlords increase the prices when the classes are about to start.

Use booking.com but note some embassies are asking for real accommodation booking
