    Just installed these on my 09 Prius. This video is wonderful and gave me lots of confidence going in.
    I had a slight hiccup with putting the dust cover back on. I couldn't rotate the bulb in a way where the LED's are in the correct orientation without interfering the dust cap in some way. It's a very tight fit.
    Wiring is very easy. I used a different kind of T tap that allows me to disconnect the wiring harness entirely if need be.
    Make sure you buy extra push clips! They will break when you take them out. Also be careful to not strip out the 2 rubber stopper things on the front grill. WD-40 could help.
    This saved me so much money overall. Thank you so much!!

    This video was incredibly helpful on converting my HID headlights to LED. My biggest concern before attempting the process was the high voltage to 12v. That was incredibly simple. I was able to twist wires so the only tools needed was a 10mm socket, Phillips bit for drill, wire cutter/stripper, and electrical tape. The entire process took under 30 min. I could repeat the process in about 10 min. Thank you for this video. Gen 2 Prius headlight HID to LED conversion.

    For those looking to do this upgrade, know that using a T-tap connector is not the best way to go. I tried it first with a T-tap and the connection was so poor that the LED light didn't come on. Not to mention this also mean that the ballast was still pulling power unnecessarily.
    If you are making this upgrade yourself, just cut the ballast wires off completely and use some butt crimp connectors with heat shrink. That will give a more than strong enough connection and will make your install easier not having to deal with the wires being joined to the ballast still.
    Of note, I DID have to shave off part of the LED housing plastic in order to have enough room to close up the light enclosure. In order to get the LED bulb seated correctly for the LEFT headlight, the LED had to be positioned straight up and down in a way that made it interfere with the dust cap.
    In the end with a little modification and basic electrical ability, this was a great install/upgrade. Now my lights don't flicker out and are SUPER bright compared to the HID bulbs.
    I have an 06 Prius

    I just made this change over in a 2008 Prius. I never would have done it without the video, so thanks! The only difference for me was that in the video it looks like the led bulbs come with loose wires to tap. The ones I bought didn't. However, and better, it came with a plug on the end. I was able to unscrew the HID converter shown in the video, unplug the white sleeved power cable that runs to it, pull it out, pop open the plug by popping the tabs on it (easy), and reuse the spade connectors to push onto the spades of the led bulb plug. Hardest part of the operation for me was getting the bumper hooked back up and just right.

    Pro tip 😂 the T-splice connectors are famous for failing within a couple of years. Excellent video. It answered a lot of my questions. I had ordered led bulbs already assuming I had halogens. But noooo, of course my Prius has HID. Gotta return these and get proper dr2 with the coax plug adapter. If you prefer to not have to revisit this task, go for a more durable and permanent wire splice. Soldering is overkill and unnecessary and takes forever. The solder/shrink tube waterproof butt connectors are on ama and eby very cheap. Use a heat gun, not a lighter like a hillbilly. 👨‍🔧⚡💡

    • @AllaLighting

      It's better to cap off the input connector to ballast, the reason we keep it connected is that customer requires to have the ability of easily switching between HID and LED

    Dont you need 3 wires?
    How does it know to switch from low beam to high beam ..
    That's 12 volts.. I mean it obviously doesn't put out Like 16 for the high beam!!
    So how do we get high beam???

    • @KramnikDaniel
      @KramnikDaniel 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Low/high beam is controlled by a separate mechanical actuator that moves an optical shutter, not electrically (the original HID ballast only has 2 wires going in!). Hope that helps.

    I watched your video and really thanks for detailed information; however, I noticed that you did not disconnect the supply power from the ballast and left it connected - why? Leaving it connected will cause a buzzing sound from the HID bulb connector when it is not connected to the HID bulb. Correct me if I am wrong

      I was wondering the same like what kind of draw produces leaving connect and how the high beam function works since looks like only the low beam ground and positive were spliced. The high beam connector wire isn't spliced into the bulbs high beam connector or is there some sort of automatic change noted if low isn't powered to switch to high I'm not comprehending?

    Sand the headlights and they will look even better. That hazy plastic is probably cutting down 30% of the light output. I sand my headlights every three years to keep them clear and bright. Then give them a good buff. After the buff I seal them up with a clear coat. Makes an old car look like new again.

    • @whatsit2ya247
      @whatsit2ya247 11 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Sand your headlights? I guess if they're really foggy, and with like 2000 grit wet, I just use buffing compound, another tip, if you use 2k clear (catalyzed) you wouldn't have to redo every year. 👍

    After going to all this trouble to document the process and make such a video, in my opinion this was a wasted opportunity to further boost your sales by also showing the factory and led headlight beam differences when shining them against the wall of that warehouse and down a dark road.

    I'm not comfortable doing any of this by myself, I was looking to change my HID bulbs into LED bulbs because my HID bulbs were beginning to go dimmer and dimmer every night these last few weeks. But this is a lot more work than I'm comfortable with doing just to change bulbs -- I wasn't looking into cutting wires or anything so this wasn't what I'm looking to do. I'll just have to go and pay to get it done professionally, I don't really care that much about saving money.

    How did the function of the High Beams work after this conversion? With the HID original set up, there are no 'high beams' change in brightness in the actual bulb, just the change of position of bulb to create a high beam effect. With this conversion, is it the same?

    • @jafinch78
      @jafinch78 ปีที่แล้ว

      I was wondering the same, though more-so about the low beam wires looking like only being spliced and no high beam wires connected to the high beam (what I assume) circuit of the bulb. So is the movable eye looking thing in the assembly that blocks the bulb moving only for high beam operations?

    • @Wasteoftime10
      @Wasteoftime10 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@jafinch78 I did the conversion to LEDs, but did it the right way. I first swapped out those terrible HID assemblies to the normal Halogen assemblies, then upgraded those to LEDs. Honestly, I think the normal Halogen assemblies were better than those terrible HIDs. It was a bad design from the start. Now, with the upgraded HIDs that work as they should, its a huge improvement.

    • @jafinch78
      @jafinch78 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@Wasteoftime10 Awesome! That affirms I took the correct course of action. I wound up finding a set of Halogen assemblies at the yard on the last day of the 50% off sale. Got them and a few H4 9003 HB2's with their connectors. So have a few to choose from design wise though most are fairly the same. Was also thinking, if for some reason someone wanted to swap in HID, can take two bad bulbs sockets with the top bulb part remove and solder on those pigtails for the HID high and low connectors and then pot with epoxy or silicone the wires in the old bulb socket base. Unfortunately, one of the assemblies has gravel in and both had ice. So washed with distilled water until I decided the one needs the lens removed and better thoroughly cleaned. So have that left to do and will swap. Thinking once I dry them both out, I'll run a bead of type 1 silicone around since I have some as I don't see me opening them up ever again for any reason.

      I just did the upgrade and completely separated the ballast from the circuitry and didn't have any issues or codes. So no issues with a change in bulbs.
