This was great ! 😭 It was perfect timing too. my husband never heard about him and he is never into this kind of stuff especially when I bring it up. 5 LOVE LANGUAGES- in no particular order: 1. Words of affirmation; 2. Acts of service; 3. Receiving gifts; 4. Quality time; 5. Physical touch. Affirming physical touch.
Had to pause when I read he was married for 63 years. I wouldn’t have guessed that at all given how much youthful he seems. That’s nothing but God and good living there.
This is now my 3rd time watching this episode. From the opening of Dr. Chapman’s conversation with God about having the attitude of Christ towards his wife to this season’s intro, my heart posture has shifted. So many gems dropped in this episode that my treasure chest of wisdom is full to overflow. From being a single woman preparing for marriage to loving my children from childhood to adults, I invest in the many books Dr. Chapman has written, including the ones on marriage. I have appreciated the many years of learning and gleaming from his knowledge and expertise. Growth is my mission and grace is the outcome. I am so thankful that this season starts off with love on a whole new level. 💜
He is the physical representation of what it looks, feels, and sounds like when we allow Christ to rule/lead our lives. God in His faithfulness has kept Dr. Chapman and his wife. This isn’t impossible. This is what God wants to do for all of us 💯🩵🙏🏽
This is a hall of fame episode ❤. Its packed, its grounded, its truth, its experience, its counsel, its direction, its wisdom!!!!! Amen and amen to this.
I am thoroughly convinced that when you have a real relationship with God and you allow Him to be the navigator of your life, you just experience Grace on another level. This man looks beyond great at 86 years old. He looks and sounds like a man of peace and wisdom
Laterras, I told you before another interview was my absolute favorite, but having experienced Dr. Chapman's Five Love Languages in my own marriage and not seeing and hearing from him; this is by far the best. My husband has passed away it will be 13 years this November. This book helped us have the best five years of marriage God could have given. Thank you, Dr. Chapman, for letting God use you to help us.
My husband and I read this book before our wedding as it was recommended by our counsellor, and we have definitely learnt a lot about each other. He's a physical touch person and I'm acts of service..so we ensure that we pour into each others cup daily..

I loved this episode. 63 years of marriage what a Blessing....he doesn't look his age either, it looks like love kept him youthful. This was a breath of fresh air.
I LOVE that Dr. Chapman gave context to Physical Touch!! Years ago, when I read the book and took the quiz, the thought has stayed with me that most people show love through the way THEY receive love and not how the person receives love.
Yess. This is why a person can run down what they have done for someone in a relationship, and it may be really great things, but the recipient may not receive it that way.
Omg! I never comment, but 26 minutes in I'm in full tears. This is too much! I had to walk away. This hit me so hard because for me it's not just about spouses but this for every kind of relationship.
Oh, me too! Recently I've come to a conclusion about myself; and that is I struggle to receive. Listening to this podcast and hearing him say that receiving is a love language, I had to pause and look back at all of the times that I didn't receive gifts that were given to me. Now I'm wondering if people in my life were gifts as well and I'm sadden by the fact that it's taken me so long to come to this conclusion. There's other things going on in my head. Maybe I'll do a video of it.
I love Dr. Chapman! I went to his Five Love Languages Marriage Conference and it was so good! Afterwards, we got a chance to meet him and he's so kind and welcoming.
TH-cam keeps initiating a copyright strike because the song is licensed, even though it's my song. I have to file a complaint TWICE every episode. They eventually release it but it causes it to be restricted in certain countries until it's sorted out. I'm tired of dealing with you.

I read this book years ago. Once I finished, I realized why all my past relationships failed. I was not hitting their love language, and they were not hitting my love language. Prior to marriage, my wife read this book, and within our marriage, when you learn how to stroke the love languages, this offers a solution to make loving your spouse a lot easier. The one thing you have to pay attention to is that everyone's love lounge changes as life comes forth. So you have to learn how to be fluid, to say the least!
I almost passed on watching this interview, but something kept nudging me to watch. I am soooooo glad I did!!! Undoubtly, one of the best interviews I have ever had the pleasure of experiencing.
My sister-in-law sent me this video as it’s currently a difficult time in my marriage. Listening to Dr. Gary has been a blessing, but it's also bittersweet, knowing that my wife might not be around to see me apply the lessons from the video. I'm heartbroken and lost, fully aware that my actions have brought us to this point. I deeply regret betraying our love and miss her more than words can express.
I absolutely loved this episode! Having read the book myself, I found it incredibly insightful, especially in understanding how we communicate love in different ways. It’s amazing how something so simple can have such a profound impact on relationships. Whether it’s with our spouses, kids, or even friends, knowing each other’s love language truly is a game changer. The points that resonated with me today are these: • What can I do to help you? What can I do to make your life easier? How can I be a better wife? I remember asking my husband these questions, and I still do to make sure that I’m staying current with his needs. • We don’t have to agree, but we have to respect each other’s ideas. • Live to enrich the lives of those you encounter, and that applies to all relationships. I’ve been married for 14 years, and it’s been an incredible journey. Thanks to this book, I’ve learned so much about myself and how to better love my husband in the way he wants to be loved! I highly recommend this book to anyone striving for a healthy marriage. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Thank you for this! I just looked them up. Now looking back at this one past failed relationship I had where I'd messed up and apologized, I'm now realizing I was combining repenting and making restitution. In fact, I was using my repentance as restitution; and I never asked them how I could make things right because to me, asking how can I change and treat them better in the future was synonymous to me asking how to make my mistake right in the moment. I couldn't understand why this dude was going on and on and on after I'd apologize in the 4 of the 5 apology languages; and now I understand it's because his apology language is probably restitution, and I never offered that.
1.Expressing regret. Expressing regret by simply saying "I'm sorry." Follow that by acknowledging what you did wrong/ why you're sorry. 2. Accepting responsibility. While it is easier to say 'You are right' than 'I am wrong,' the latter carries more weight and is best. Put your ego aside, take responsibly for your actions and admit that not only you were wrong, why you were wrong. 3. Make restitution. Ask the person how you can make it right. This is especially so when the infraction involves the lost of something- whether it be time or something else of monetary value. 4. Genuinely repenting. Make specific plans to change and make things better. 5. Requesting forgiveness. Just saying you're sorry and going through the above process doesn't mean that you're forgiven. You have to ask for it. Some people are better than others at just forgiving you without you having to ask for it. But some are not. So, ask. Things to note here are that, both your timing and delivery needs to be on point. Avoid the word *BUT* in your entire apology. In fact, I'd go even further and say AVOID the word BUT in ALL manners of speech, except for when you're intentionally using it. Saying but after you've said something, negates your previous statement. For example: I'm sorry I forgot to pack the kids' lunch this morning. How about I order their lunch and have it delivered to their school today. From now on, I pack the lunches the night before so that I don't have to scramble in the mornings. Would that be OK or do you have a better suggestion for how I should proceed? Please forgive me. Then follow through by actually making the lunches the night before. Still feel free to look them up. Maybe you can find it in another format, like audio, that'll best serve you. @@kristinesmith1665
I just remembered that I didn't mention one crucial part of the 5 apology languages. Unlike the 5 love languages, you have to do all 5 of the apology languages and in numerical order, for you to effectively apologize. The only two you can swap the order you say them are resolution and repent. You can repent before you offer a resolution or vice versa. Otherwise, apologize in numerical order. In fact, Ithinkhe should have called it the 5 steps to an apology instead of apology languages because people will get confused and think they can cherry pick which steps to take when they apologize because when you show love to someone, showing it in all 5 love languages may not be as effective as just doing so in their love language(s). @@kristinesmith1665
Lord have mercy!! Dr Chapman is absolutely 💯 phenomenal! Bro This reminds me of something Bishop jakes once said..someone asked him what's the best message you ever heard...he said "the BEST message I ever heard was the one I needed the most"🔥 And that's what this message is!! THANK YOU for allowing God to use you with this podcast!! 🙏🏽🙏🏽🙏🏽🥰💯
Wow! That yellow couch has seated many influential, important and inspiring folks, but having Dr. Gary Chapman is truly an impactful soul. Much needed in today's culture and love that you invited him in this season. God continue to shower his marriage with love, in abundance.
I wasn't sure what to expect but this interview was fantastic. Dr. Chapman is a joy to watch and a wealth of information and wisdom. He is a walking master class for having a successful marriage. Thank you for having him on the podcast.
Very great interview thank you Dr. Chapman for sharing your experiences with your spouse and for sharing the 5 Love Languages with the world. ❤ Wow 86 years old looking like he’s in his late 60’s early 70’s. 🙌 He’s hilarious and richly blessed!!!
Our church hosted The Five Love Languages Conference a few years ago. Couples came from throughout the region. There literally was not ONE empty seat. The feedback was phenomenal and life changing for married and engaged couples. The books and materials ALL sold out! Thank you, LW. This was awesome.
This was such a great episode! I love the conversation between the two of you! I love that he shared his personal journey with his wife and their ministry with us. I'm going to re-watch this again tonight after work; & then I'm going to buy that assessment quiz using your affiliate link. Great job, Laterras! 🥳🥳🥳🥳🥳🥳🥳🥳🥳 Makes me happy to see your growth and the growth of this show. ::Non-church hug:: 🤗 🤗🤗🤗🤗🤗
This interview was a gift. I have been familiar with the 5 love languages and the book for several decades now. It was good to get to know the author and the couple behind the book. Dr. Chapman gave a lot of wisdom and practicals to help one live a life of love. On another note, Laterras, I have a question for you to ponder: Do you think that your primary love language could have always been words of affirmation but because sex played such a prominent role in your life at the time, you thought that it was physical touch? Lastly, the podcast set changes are simply beautiful and organic. The new intro is wonderful as well.
I was going to comment the same exact thing re: the change of love language but say the reverse. Like, maybe his love language was always affirming touch but since men often associate physical touch with sex, which he both wasn't getting at home and was on the low getting outside of the home, that he felt some kind of guilt or shame or even self- punishing even, when he switched his love language to words of affirmation. Like he so yearned for affirming touch and since that wasn't forthcoming, he took what he could get and figured she'd be more able to do, and asked for words of affirmation instead.
This was just the best, I laughed and I contemplated. I took the free test a few years back, but I will be doing the paid one to go deeper and will share it with my two sons. I heard Dr. Chapman on radio many times but experiencing him in this way hit different, such a blessing❤
Laterras!!!!! Omg. You done it now. Gary Chapman. Really. The Love language principles guy. God’s Hand is all over your life. Then you’re going to have heavy hitters back to back. We can’t breathe. Jerry and Priscilla Shirer, Keion Henderson and Gary Chapman. Wow. Then your interview quality is A1. Your questions are top tier. I’m so proud of you and keep up the great work. Btw I’m a season one listener so I can say I’m proud. Kudos to you. God is equipping us for the best kingdom marriages.
Oh my goodness. I could listen to him talk the entire day. Such humility and depth of wisdom; that's a Holy Spirit filled man right there✨Dr. Chapman, such a pleasure🙏🏾 My goodness. God bless you, and keep you, and protect you🕊 Thank you Laterras🙂
This interview was priceless for current and future relationships. That part saying being present sounds simple but must never be overlooked but seriously learned. Thank you for this great gift.❤
Thanks so much for inviting him on the podcast. I speak from a Counselor's World! We love using the love languages and as a previous high school teacher I taught on these 5 love languages so they would know how to love and their expectations in a relationship. The jewel was the interview with Dr. Chapman. He dropped so much knowledge and life nuggets that I plan to read some of those 50 books. Thanks again for what you do and how you bless us with amazing people on the yellow coach.
When this interview mentioned Winston Salem, NC - college students my soul said 🙌🏼. I grew up in Charlotte, NC. At the age of 8, Carolyn Matthews knocked on our front door, with her two kids, Michael and Michelle, and they invited me to come to their church and the church bus will pick me up every Sunday morning, Sunday night and Wednesday night. I did that for about 4 years, fell in love with church - then at age 11, started attending another church with my mom, aunt and cousins and got baptized at age 12. At age 21, I got a job with Piedmont Airlines and trained in Winston Salem, then moved away from home for the 1st time to be based in Syracuse, NY. God has been with me every step of the way. God is good! All the time. A sincere thank you to both Dr. Chapman and Laterras for this enlightening interview. God is ❤. 🙏🏽🙌🏼
This was so good. I use several of his books in our counseling ministry at church. 86 and going strong to help marriages and families. Great interview. To God be glorified and praised.
It was so exciting to see Mr. Dave Chapman on your podcast, Laterras! Our Heavenly Father just this summer had me reading The Languages of God (which are the 5 Love Languages) the Marriage Covenant, and the Four Seasons of Marriage all by Gary Chapman. I learned so much from his books about myself, life, relationships, and marriage. They were practically and spiritually fulfilling and are backed with scripture. You know there is power, knowledge, and wisdom in a text when the Holy Spirit leads you to it to read it, study it, and apply it to your life. I love all of your podcast episodes, but to see this one, I felt a form of alignment taking place considering I, too, am divorced living in my single season while the Lord is preparing me for marriage. Dave Chapman is a gem. Thanks again Laterras and blessings to you and your family. 🙏🏽 ❤
Powerful. I've read and own a few of his books but not knowing it was 50. I've shared my copy, gifted it, and referred someone. Thank you L.W. For always giving us the best
Dr Gary Chapman wow God has truly Blessed you.. Sir you look amazing.. Kudos to being married 63 years to your Wife .. this God let me have the attitude of Christ towards my wife.. .. I’ve read the 4 Love Languages.. I’ve gifted family with this book..such an eye opening about loving in their language especially in relationships to those connected to you..🙏🏾💚👏🏾
Tears in the first 10 minutes. I’m in that hopeless place and honestly I’m not willing to make these changes for who I’m with now but I’m willing to for a future relationship. I’ve known about these love languages before marriage and this was my mentality from the beginning. I really respect seeing men have this perspective.
If you're not willing to make those changes for the person you're with now, why are you with them? Why aren't you willing to start working on yourself/ this current relationship? I'm just curious. You don't have to share if you don't want to.
@@alicetheegreet I’m with them right now because God has not given me permission to leave. I’m willing and am doing the work to get healthier i just know it won’t benefit this relationship. When I’m released it will benefit my next one.
Wow !!!! Please have him back. I listened while at work and tears rolling down my eyes and then chuckles lol . What a beautiful episode! Such a natural flow of encouragement. You can tell he has lived this conversation because he never struggled to rely answers to questions. Opening up their home to that young man, that young man even having enough vulnerability to ask😢. Dang I’m all messed up. This episode will be saved and on repeat.
Thank you for bringing Dr. Chapman for this Amazing interview. As a Licensed Therapist this has given me more foundation as I work will clients regarding their Love language… This was phenomenal…
Dr. Chapman, I am so grateful for this book!! It is powerful in learning about ourselves in relation to other's needs. Continued blessings to you and your family. Blessings on 63 years of marriage.

I'm grateful for Dr. Chapman and your platform. You are truly bringing people together by way of the Holy Spirit. God bless you above what you can imagine.🙏🏼💜
Wow, What a beautiful episode. After 44 years of a great marriage I’m about to revisit this very much needed book. Thank you laterras for this great conversation- we can always learn something new regardless of age.
This is such an Awesome interview! I've read Dr. Chapman book, but to listen to this interview and know it wasn't easy in the beginning of their marriage, and how they work out their differences and now they're married 63 years! Wow! This gives me Hope!! ❤❤
This man is 86 and they have been married for 63 years???!!! He looks AMAZING!!! GOD is really preserving him! GOD Bless Dr. Chapman and his wife 🙏🏾❤️

Thank you! I just downloaded the app!
I definitely will look into 5 Apology Languages.

Just the story from the man that IDENTIFIED, categorized, and teaches Love, linguistically...
Wow. 👍🏾
Wow…I’m a widow married for 34 years and we learned the Love Languages. Thank you Dr Chapman. If I marry again, I’m looking to serve.
Lord have mercy!! Dr Chapman is absolutely 💯 phenomenal! Bro This reminds me of something Bishop jakes once said..someone asked him what's the best message you ever heard...he said "the BEST message I ever heard was the one I needed the most"🔥
And that's what this message is!!
THANK YOU for allowing God to use you with this podcast!!
🙏🏽🙏🏽🙏🏽🥰💯
This is going into my top 5 episodes list. ❤
Dr. Gary Chapman’s message is amazing and a roadmap to lasting love! Kudos for having him on the podcast. You doing BIG things Laterras ! 🎉❤
A legend on the yellow couch
Thank you for another great interview. I'm in awe of his memory as a 86 year old. Love really gives life!
MAN, this is an AWESOME guest!!
Dr. Gary Chapman???🔥🔥🔥 I really enjoy the interview. He has a great personality.
I've attended 2 ministry schools, and his book was part of our curriculum!!! 👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽❤️❤️❤️❤️
Wow! That yellow couch has seated many influential, important and inspiring folks, but having Dr. Gary Chapman is truly an impactful soul. Much needed in today's culture and love that you invited him in this season. God continue to shower his marriage with love, in abundance.
I study this book 📕 every few years. I learn something different every time. 💕
I do the same and have the same experience with Ralph Ellison's 'Invisible Man.'
Really enjoyed listening to this man can’t believe he’s 86, he looks good and he has lots of wisdom I can’t listen to all day and he’s witty 😊.
I wasn't sure what to expect but this interview was fantastic. Dr. Chapman is a joy to watch and a wealth of information and wisdom. He is a walking master class for having a successful marriage. Thank you for having him on the podcast.
This is the only episode I've ever watched more than twice on this podcast.
Sir Laterras, kudos to you for having this brilliant guest in Dr. Chapman on DFW today!
Omg you got THE Dr. Gary Chapman!!!! Whewww this season is about to be FIRE! 😍
What an honor to have, Dr. Chapman on the yellow couch; time for me to gleen on the godly wisdom that the Lord has blessed him with.
One of your best interviews. Very informative. He needs to come back.
His message was so needed: the 5 love languages.
This was a much needed episode! I’ve always loved his book, and so it’s great to hear his story
‘Let children feel consequences’…. So good!!
This whole episode has not been short of amazing. Gem after gem after gem!
Just shared with my husband.
Oh my goodness. I could listen to him talk the entire day. Such humility and depth of wisdom; that's a Holy Spirit filled man right there✨Dr. Chapman, such a pleasure🙏🏾 My goodness. God bless you, and keep you, and protect you🕊
Thank you Laterras🙂
This interview was priceless for current and future relationships. That part saying being present sounds simple but must never be overlooked but seriously learned. Thank you for this great gift.❤
I’ve been so blessed by this interview with Dr Chapman. I’ve read two of his books, such an honour to hear the story behind the books🙏🏾
The Love Languages are such a game changer for spouses and families. I even use them at work. Such a great tool! Fantastic interview, Laterras!
Dr. Gary Chapman !! Yes 🙌🏾
Thank you for sharing this !!
Thank you so much !!
I'm so happy you posted an episode this week. I wasn't sure you would post one today. I can't wait to listen to it as I do my cardio in a bit.
I’ve gifted family with this book..such an eye opening about loving in their language especially in relationships to those connected to you..🙏🏾💚👏🏾
He looks great to be 86 and married 63 years wow! What a blessing!🙂
OK, thanks for sharing. 🙂

Gary Chapman is the GOAT! I’ve been teaching and sharing his works with my clients since grad school! Thank u, Laterras! #respect
“If you are looking for answers you will find them.”
Wow! You are a legend Dr. Chapman!!!! Thank you Laterras for having him on the podcast!
This was AMAZING! ❤❤❤

It was so awesome to see the face behind The Five Love Languages. Dr. Gary Chapman is a cool guy. Great interview.
Dr. Chapman, I am so grateful for this book!! It is powerful in learning about ourselves in relation to other's needs. Continued blessings to you and your family. Blessings on 63 years of marriage.
I love your show’s growth. I’m impressed!
I Absolutely Love ♥️ This Man’s Humor! Laughter Is Good For The Soul! The Grace And Favor Of God Is All Over This Man! He’s Happy Healthy Wealthy And Whole In Gods Wisdom And Spirit At The Ripe And Seasoned Age Of 86. May God Continue To Bless This Great Man Of God And His Beautiful Wife In Her Absence In The Mighty Majestic Sovereign Name Of Jesus Amen 🙏🏾
This is my FAVORITE and #1 interview on this podcast. Dr. Gary Chapman is unmatched.
I love Dr Chapman deep joyful laughter. Thank you for releasing yourself sir
I was first introduced to Dr. Chapman in the 90's and have been inspired ever since. God is truly amazing! Look how He works to bring things and people together.
This was a GREAT episode & interview. Dr. Chapman dropped a lot of gems & wisdom.
I listened to the love languages audiobook years ago. His voice brought me right back to that time. What a great interview!
I really loved this episode. Thank you Laterras for bringing this veteran to the yellow couch.
