In 1928 when Walt Disney had Mickey Mouse whistle on a steamboat and squeak his first words he never realized how big his Disney Princess franchise would be. Maybe that’s why it took over 20 years for him to release another Disney princess film after 1937’s release of Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs. These animated beauties have become so popular with children and grownups alike that we all know that one slipper can change a life or that we can use a fork as a comb. Still, there are a lot of facts we didn’t realize about Disney’s Princess that are surprising.

The age could very well be the time period she was living in. The movie looks like it took place way back then. People weren’t living as long so it wasn’t uncommon for people to be married young

The character Mulan is based on a legend, not a myth. That means, that while her story has been greatly altered over the centuries, there is a good chance that she was a real person, so Pocahontas is not the only Disney princess to claim they are 'based' (exceedingly generous with that term) on a real life person.

Umm there is no actual records about Mulan as a real person according to Chinese history, so it is assumed also by Chinese people it’d be more possible that she’s a myth.

I knew about Snow White's age. A cool fact is that, in he original story, the evil Queen or whatever tried THREE TIMES to kill Snow White...! A lace, a comb, and the Apple. On fact, the prince's kiss didn't save her, but he dropped the coffin and she coughed the Apple out. Whenever they got married he queen returned. They gave her iron climbs hat would get super hot, so she danced until she died.

Pocahontas isn't the only princess to not wear a tiara or crown...Mulan didn't wear any. Unless you count her hair comb, which you shouldn't. The emperor only gave her his necklace, no crown or tiara.

HUA MULAN IS NOT A MYTH. Aspects of the story are pure myths, the character itself is based on a real PERSON.
What do you base that on? The only known sources on Mulan are the Chinese ballads, where the earliest is from the 6th century, we have no idea if they are based on a real person like it's claimed as we have no archaeological data to confirm it.

Was hoping for a mention of the forgotten/ignored princesses like Kida (Atlantis) or Eilonwy (The Black Cauldron).
they arent official disney princesses, well they are in the movie but that doesnt make them a official disney princess, because only if you have been crowned by disney to be a disney princess you are one official and it doesnt matter if you are one in the movie or not
To be a Disney Princess a character needs to meet these criteria:
1. Be a human character
2. She must be featured in an animated movie.
3. She cannot be introduced in a sequel.
and 4. she has to either: be born into royalty, marry royalty or commit an act of heroism, which Mulan did.
Then there's the unspoken rule that the movie in question has to be a hit or popular enough to bring in the money (which is why Princess Eilonwy from the Black Cauldron for example is not an official Disney princess)

i think the point is that they are princess in animated films born of royal blood. they both commited an act of heroism and they fit all the rules. BUT Disney never mentions them so they are the forgotten not the nonexistent. just a thought
Kida beyond deserves to be an official Disney princess as does Eilowny. Kida is one of my favorites and it really sucks that she is ignored by Disney and does not get any type of merchandising. I know a lot of people my age who were young when they watched it and said that they wish they could make her popular enough to make her an official Disney Princess. If they would re-release the movie into theaters, there would probably be enough support and some may even view it as a completely new movie if they marketed it right.
How about princess Elsa in Frozen being able to create sentient life, in the form of the snowman.

If my understanding is correct, the Mulan "princess" is based off of a character in a chinese folk tale and the character in said folk tale is based off a real person. So you could argue that Disney's Mulan is based off of a real person or off a folk character.
