    This video saved me $450. Dealer wanted to charge $500 for this job, but after seeing this, I just picked up a pump from my neighborhood auto parts store for $46 and did it myself. Hardest part is prying off the old pump without causing damage. Gotta get me some cool air tools. The sound of a bad pump is at th-cam.com/video/z9r03JYdp00/w-d-xo.html

      Im glad you came back to let me know, feels good knowing I helped. Another person also commented the pump was hard to pry off. Mine came out easy despite 335 000 on the odo in rust land. I believe people pry them too much on one side and it binds up. Good coolant flush interval may help as well, otherwise it could corrode the surfaces.

      Good service interval helps, but some are still stubborn hence my words about the big hammer.

      thank you. And more often than not on cars, you have to see with your hands, not eyes. errr except at car shows, where you are expected to touch with your eyes ;)

    I miss when American cars were this easy to work on. Pound for pound the 4.6L V8 was the best workhorse motor that ever rolled off an American assembly line.

    • @Nordic_Mechanic
      @Nordic_Mechanic  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      This is the best V8 ford ever made. Ford made something great with this. The 16 valve 4.6l are true workhorse without the sparkplugs and cam phaser problems of the 32V and 5.4L engines. Just modern enough to make it run nice and starts good, and none of the overly complicated stuff for no reasons. Just like a car from the 90s, it simply works and gives you peace of mind. The end of the panther platform will be noted in car history, mark my word. The last body on frame car, and last full size sedan to roll out in america and the world. I always tell new drivers to grab these, they are safe, and gas is cheaper than repairs. And repairs are few and cheap on these.

      @@GixxerRider1991 I purchased my Crown Vic almost four years ago off of Craigslist. I've put in less than $500 for sudden repairs. Best car I've ever owned. 😎💯

      @@stevenlewis1696 I got mine off CL 5 years ago for $1800 06'. Best car ive ever owned as well and ive owned lots! Really never had any issues but the intake gave out last year, but for all i saved on car payments,ive probably only dropped$2000 in repairs in 5 years. Thats intake,brakes,egr,thromostat,hose,tires. Maintenance for any car. All simple fixes that i did myself except intake. Now the water pump is leaking but i already have the part from AZ for $60 and then she's good to go!

    you don't need to pull out lower hose to drain. there's a peacock to drain all the fluid

    • @Nordic_Mechanic
      @Nordic_Mechanic  5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      petcock isnt in a nice spot, it's much easier to pull the radiator hose since it's so easy to reach.

  • @crakkfuentes74
    @crakkfuentes74 7 ปีที่แล้ว

    Did you have a slow drip leak? I see from the bottom what looks like the bottom of the pump leaking but I don't get any fluid when I run my finger along the bottom of the pump? Is there anything else underneath the pump that could leak?

    • @Nordic_Mechanic
      @Nordic_Mechanic  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Mine was leaking out the small weep hole I showed underneat the pump. It's usually the place it comes from when you have a leak at the center of the front of the engine. You may need to wash the engine to find a hidden leak if it's not the pump

  • @mr.flores2381

    question.. the hose that is connected behind my water pump is leaking, is water pump bad or is it the hose? it leaks coolant and causes my car to overheat

    • @Nordic_Mechanic
      @Nordic_Mechanic  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      good chance that it's the hose. Look under the pump with a mirror. There is a hole there, if wet it ,means the pump is bad

      A previous idiot might have put tap water in the engine coolant ..corroding the whole thing solid. Or worse, straight tap water. They are VERY easy to get out normally with that O ring design they dont stick such as typical gaskets. Once the 4 bolts are removing a slight nudge or tap and they fall off

      try pb blaster or pl-100. If that doesnt work you'll need a precise application of heat. Inductive heaters are especially good in those cases

    • @Nordic_Mechanic
      @Nordic_Mechanic  8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Better if you do. But I did not, I have a huge pan and caught the
      coolant as I removed the pump. I flushed the system once I had the new
      pump in by removing bottom radiator hose.

    Sorry but sandpaper on a sealing surface is a no-no. Sandpaper in general is a no-no around machined part's.

    • @Nordic_Mechanic
      @Nordic_Mechanic  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      first, This is a O-ring gasket, not a flat paper gasket, thus no critical flatness to the part. And second, putting a gasket on a dirty, corroded surface IS the no-no on a car. It wont seal and might even tear the O-ring causing leaks.

      AAaannnnd no longevity affected in this video at all. Do you telekinetically change parts with otherwordly care on your solid gold pixie dust engine O superior being of water pump sent by the gods to suffer for our mecanical sins ! Repent ! the end of your pumps is near !

    • @shartingfish5761

      I’m confused as to what you’re talking about outside of doing a drain first of the rad and the block, and doing the Tstat at the same time so you can add the fluid back into the system so you dont run it dry, i see nothing that was done wrong as you state.. more like different strokes for different folks
