@@wolfcommando8467 I don't either honestly, just guessing what they are thinking. I do think that there could be some polishing (mostly UI screens) but not bad overall.
I really like the way this game aproaches the 4X genre, it makes great twists in the formula and plays very well, while being mostly bug-free. The only thing holding it back is how it looks and the public perception around it, its not very pretty, and when the innevitable CIV comparisons pop up, it tends to lose. A shame, I really hope this game does well and the devs can keep working on it, has a lot of promise and is already pretty good.
I like that idea. What I liked about human kind is that you could change your society as it went through time. What I didn't like is that you could feasibly pick the same powerful civs over and over for every game, with several "bad" cultures that you wouldn't pick if your life depended on it. I think it would be FAR more interesting if the culture you picked depended upon What you built, what natural resources you have, and what culture/war/technological points you have. So, a civ with a lot of marble in its cities would be able to pick the Greek culture, and one with access to stone, sand, and has river transport technology has access to Egyptian culture. Have a strong military and lots of military tech? Spartan culture. Granted, it works a lot better during the ancient eras, but I think it can be an interesting twist. I mean, add some religion to that, and we can have something where if something like Catholicism spreads to your civ, it block certain bonuses in favor of its own. Like if there's a boost to science from catholisism, it overwrites a bonus to culture from greek religion. But, since its a dominant religion now, you get negatives as well, such as a decrease in economy, since no one works on sunday.
they should move away from real world cultures totally imo. Just let us evolve from stoneman organically by choosing techs and cultures etc depending on our surrounding territory. Would make for the most realistic and immersive civ like game.@@SImrobert2001

I played the heck out of the demo in the steam nextfest, it was a lot of fun. Seeing the new ages only makes me look forward to this game more. The Raiders are some of the most OP things I have ever seen however, anybody picking it gets a free win because it creates an infinite self-sustaining loop of war exp. The more you fight the more exp you get, and the more exp you get the more soldiers you get basically for free that eventually outclass everything.
Yes, Raiders is completely OP and allows you to walk into an easy military victory. Giving you tons of Raiders and giving them 0 upkeep cost just breaks the game.
The devs already nerfed raiders since the demo. Will have to see if it’s more balanced or more broken. Personally I prefer warriors which also makes infinite Spartans from war cop. I think it takes more war costs per unit than raiders, but I never tried raiders during the demo. I had a real fun war against my neighbor who was a raider while I was warriors, I won just before the end of the demo.

This is one of the better games i've seen lately. Went to play when it had a free weekend and played like 10 full games in a row :D Got to Age Of Heroes on second run, you just need to invest in more scouts early in game and maybe some luck, but early scouts are great way to gather exploration points and grab those "tribal villages" around the map so you are effectively weakening your opponents that way. The free weekend demo was over on the turn 50 so for any good testing i needed to rush everything :D - so got to hero age in mid to late 30's . Btw - you know you can research tech you didn't take earlier ? - i think you could be much better with some stuff like Knowledge if you did research those buildings. P.S. - you can do some fun stuff with pioneers and culture events, put an outpost adjacent to your city then when you get an culture event you can "Absorb Outpost" - you immediately get a level 2 town on that spot - so, if you did "the math" correctly and you placed center of outpost in-between a few special resources you can get very good wealth generation from that and then even more for town specialization.
You keep saying to treat it like an indie title, but I don't think I can. This is Paradox. HoI4, Stellaris, EU4, CK3, all very big hits in their own right. This game feels a bit unpolished from a company that has the means to do better.

From other gameplay I've seen, cities get really big (I think I heard being able to work 6 tiles out, but don't quote me on that) so settling cities too close is definitely something to avoid.
I like this, I have never cared much about graphics (I spend 98% of my game time playing a MUD, telnet based text only game), I miss the old Civ tho, same for Railroad Tycoon - that one is borderline unplayable now, it's a game that works best with cells rather than "free drawing" with limited tools, everything ends up like a soup.
I played games with Ascii graphics. I don't think many GSG players are part of the graphic snob crowd. Cities with "countryside"-slots and production chains does remind me a bit of Ymir... just with less city-building.
Moar. Game look very intresting, and its crying shame graphics hold it down ;/ I think I'll buy it just to encourage the devs even though I'm not sure if I'll play it a lot.
This definitely looks promising as a sort of... anti-civ. Civ has become far too ingrown with its super specific ruler and nation gameplay styles, whereas Humankind went... really weird with its "Japan is now known as the Netherlands" approach to a nation identity. Having a strong fantasy and "alternate earth" feel definitely works.
I'm trying to understand why you'd build 2 cities so close together instead of expanding the first city. What are the pros and cons vs each? Basically growing wide vs growing tall I guess. Because at the half way point you had cotton in one city, is it usable in the capital for converting to other stuff?
In regards to the art style. It's like any other game, people will complain and say they don't like it, but as long as the game play is good and engaging, you'll eventually come to like the different art. I remember people saying the same thing for every single Civ game over the decades, that the art style in this new version is so terrible! It looks like Millennia will have the game play to keep it unique and engaging and I'm sure people will come to like the art style. I've certainly been getting more used to it and have come to like it in the videos I've been watching. The only thing I don't like is the mini-map. I can't understand what is what in it. I'm also not to big on the combat screen, it was neat the first couple of times but is just annoying after seeing it over and over and over again.
Put aside the "Civ killer" rhetoric. This game is genuinely innovating in the 4X genre in some pretty cool ways, and I'm all for it! Also, I got to start another cult, so that's pretty sweet.

4x Strategy Indie Game from Paradox? Huh?
What's next, the indie Open World from Ubisoft?
interesting
Dont give me hope
Oh civ 6

This definitely looks promising as a sort of... anti-civ.
Civ has become far too ingrown with its super specific ruler and nation gameplay styles, whereas Humankind went... really weird with its "Japan is now known as the Netherlands" approach to a nation identity.
Having a strong fantasy and "alternate earth" feel definitely works.
Oh look it's Civ 7.
The game is published by Paradox and is already taking hints from their business model. Stay far away.
Idk, I don't see the issues with the graphics. It just looks like civ to me. Civ 5, but that was better than 6 anyway
I'm trying to understand why you'd build 2 cities so close together instead of expanding the first city. What are the pros and cons vs each? Basically growing wide vs growing tall I guess. Because at the half way point you had cotton in one city, is it usable in the capital for converting to other stuff?
This seems like a nice cross between Civ and EU... more mechanics than Civ but as seriously involved as EU.
BCE? LoL how quaint!
ver wierd to see Brasilia in 3500 BCE
