Unbelievable let me get this straight after yesterdays transmission fail, Today an IT drag and drive guy saw it on the road knew it was lost went back picked it up brought to the shop and also fixed it! As a bonus u have Steve Morris with u as copilot. Okay, Tom the powers that be are on your side your winning this thing for sure!
When they were interviewing the Swedish gentleman you can hear in the background the announcer reading an ad for the "nearly indestructible Gear Vendor". I wonder if they added the nearly after Alexs' run earlier in the day.
@@christopherflynn5359 she says in the video the Gear Vendor's guy said she was the first person to break an input shaft on a GV. Not talking about the transmission, the Gear Vendor is a separate over drive unit that attaches to the back of the trans. A lot of drag and drive driver's use them because it significantly drops the rpm when they are cruising from track to track.
Know somebody that used to break a GV input once every couple years only on 2nd gear shift, started applying the a dump valve before the shift and hasnt happened since. Also found out thru video that there was minor tire shake coming in right at the shift, so now the hard shift and rattling the tires are gone its been smooth sailing for 3-4yrs now
Tom you crack me up!!! Sneeking out from under the front end that way!!! I like the way you do not take yourself too seriously!!! Keep having fun, bud!!!
Thanks for the nice summary Luke. You are really keeping the Drag and Drive fans updated. Enjoy the talk with all the drivers. Some really cool cars in the mix.
Thanks for the video sitting her watching my son sleep in hospital he was in a role over Saturday night and got 3 broken places in his neck one compounded fracture Vertebrate and broken shoulder blade so the video is a nice destination
amazes me the lengths you guys go to to get the job done, SMX , tom and all the crew . i am behind you 100 % . can not wait to see the times you post each day .
Thank you for taking us with you. That 6.03 really did my heart good. Also, good humor at 17 min, showing that Tesla with the sound of the real car in the lane next to it:)
I wish I would have known you was so close.. I would have called off work. Super cool to see you guys pulling into my buddies place in Altamont, Illinois.. I'm sure Joe Cripe was super pumped !!
Glad you had an IT guy on hand to save your bacon. ALSO, the definition of a PERFECT example of "CHECK THE CAR BEFORE YOU DRIVE OFF!" Last one to get in the car should be the one to walk around the car and check if anything might have been forgotten or unhooked or fell off. Best of luck with the rest of the week guys.
That's crazy lucky, an IT guy that could probably all around fix and grab the hard drive to get Steve and Tom back on the road. Secondary drive or cloud storage would help get rid of that nightmare scenario in the future, or greatly reduce the loss of information.
Imagine being passenger with Tom....The BEST! Happy to see that laptop was recovered....I'm sure Steve is darn glad to have it for not only the programming but, also the Google Maps🤣
Backup the laptop to the cloud, lots of options for that, but this way if it gets killed, just get a new one at the local store and suck your data down from the cloud, from anywhere by tethering to your cell phone, and presto back in business.
Always, always back up all final files to a pen drive, in the pocket. Dang, would havexa USB laptop drive in a case to back up to also in the trailer. Wish I was there, would have fixed you up immediately, IT is my life.
Congrats guys. I am surprised that you guys havent moved to E-gates. The precision, from what I have seen, is on point! Dome pressure regulation has so many variables that 5degrees in ambient temp can affect its performance. I am in NO WAY a specialist. I am a tinkerer and hobbyist racer. Just my 2 cents. Again, awesome vid and performance. Too bad for Taylor
It's a bad ass car Tom, and it's got those signature TBM Squeaking A_ _ brakes on it. 😆 . But for real, they have GOT,, to be good brakes to stop you at speeds that fast, thats no doubt. GOOD JOB GUYS. You have a smart co/pilot for real..
Pick up some ROHO adjustable air cushions , used on wheel chairs. Comes in many sizes. Sold at any medical SUPPLY store. Most comfortable seat cushion in the World.
I wonder why Cleetus isn't racing? He wasn't at LS Fest and now not doing Sick Week? It's like this is what I thought he built his Mullet/channel on. Lol
That was a big break that guy finding your laptop and bring an IT guy! Guessing you will transfer the hard drive to another laptop do you will have all your data. Sure beats having to build a new tube from scratch! Shout out to the Berreta guy!
If you are getting a super hard second gear shift , be sure and look for a broken accumulater spring and yes it is best to have the book and/or blueprint for that transmission
Put some suction mounts on the laptop. Tuners always use the top of car for laptop. If you forget it the sections will hold as long as it doesn't catch too much air
How insanely lucky is it that an IT guy finds the laptop and is able to tear it apart and retrieve the data? On Drag Week! Lol. Amazing. Big shoutout to Berretta Guy for being Johnny-On-The-Spot.
You do realize that only the driver and co-pilot can work on the car at the track, don't you?, so yes, we means her and her dad, she probably knows more about cars than you do.
@@indianaslim4971 So, in your world, she can pull the Gearvendors, change the input shaft and reinstall it without dad's help? Really? I've never seen her touch a wrench. All I hear is snide remarks from her when someone else is wrenching!
@@c103110a yes in my world it's entirely possible she could fix it, unfortunately in your misogynistic world you can't fathom a female that grew up in a racing family and been racing herself for going on a decade now can't learn anything from her dad who is a respected fabricator/race car builder.
@@indianaslim4971 But, but, but, in my world, I watch Emily Williams of Flying Sparks Garage ACTUALLY changing engines! Not make believe as in your world...Alex is a driver and not a builder. I'm fine with that. But, she shouldn't say that "we're changing the input shaft in the Gearvendors". She should say, "My dad is changing the input shaft on the Gearvendors, so I can run a pass...." Right?
So next time out the laptop has to be accounted for. And maybe load the extra maps to the Holley itself if it can do that so less of a fumble overall. Hope the next track is good enough to get that 5. Street car!

Beretta guy could gotten the race tune off the hard drive in the damaged laptop if the drive wasnt crushed & put it on another laptop so you could reset the car !
You should make a holder for the clip that is on top of your trailer so you can ditch it when the car gets hot and just run it completely uncovered with air swirling all around the engine and letting all the hot air escape. It'd probably help keep it cool a lot better.. I mean taking the hood off helps Roadkill 95% of the time.
