Hi there, really love the content. I did a decent amount of studying in college on early American film culture, and the commentary on early film being more upper class due to literacy isn't commentary I've ever heard before? Do you have a source list for these videos, because I'm interested in that piece of information
it seems he copied this video and many others from another youtube channel called great big story, so check that out. Maybe they’ll have the sources listed there, doubt it though.
Especially since if we're talking the very early stages of film, the late 1800s, it was still the time where cinema was mainly purely attraction, and there wasn't much if anything that would require reading since dialogue wasn't prevalent yet. And there's oh so many silent films that worked without any text. The video absolutely needs a source for this claim.
That sounds pretty strange , knowing that during late 19-th century only 20 percent of entire US population was illiterate , like i think maybe just cinema become cheaper and more available and that coincided with the appearance of sounded cinema?
Do you get your ideas from great big story? They used some of your exact phrases in this video. I think you are copying them in a bit because they also were an older channel
Gonna have to call BS on only "educated" people could read the subtitles While, just like today, there were those who couldn't read, the majority could at least at read at some level and a lot of films of the day could be followed even if weren't able to read the subtitles And Keystone cop movies, Buster Keaton and Chaplin movies could be easily enjoyed without the ability to read
The idea of going to the movies without popcorn is like the idea of going fishing without bate, or going to the beach without a towel. Not a requirement, but so strange to do. Yet that's just how history is always fascinating to someone who didn't live it.
Glad to hear you tomorrow is a big movie date with kid's hopefully here is POPCORN banned also it's expensive then If kid's don't have they're looks like screw Infront of stall waiting here guardian will take one and buy

Still cheap for the theaters though. The insane markup for the snacks is because they don't make that much money from the tickets.
