  • Here's a rare selection of propeller powered aircraft seen in a video that was taken from clips ranging from 1991 to 1994 at three different airports.
Shot by my friend Craig Pilkington (Aviation Media ©).
Edited / uploaded by me with the kind permission of Aviation Media ©
Original music used in the intro was provided by my friend Neil Losasso

I can watch this every day just to get my shot of radials, it's like an addiction that is getting more difficult to satisfy by the day. So much thanks for sharing this with us!

I used to have lunch in the C97 flight deck HI-468 (4:23) as a student at FIU working a summer job with Agro Air / Alas Airlines / Fine Air at MIA in the early 90s. Those were some great times on the flight line. Thank you for posting this video.

Ahh, cockroach corner in the mid 80's, at MIA. Got to see lots of great old aircraft there and then. Guess that's all gone now. Great video!!!

Not necessarily. There is still two DC-8s and Convair CV-5800 and CV-580s. 727s sometimes appear as well as Short 360s. MD-80s are still common with World Atlantic. Currently the DC-8s are parked at Miami and might not fly for a while since Amerijet who is leasing them has no use for them. I have pictures of the DC-8 if you would like me to send them to you.

Nice video. I remember from working in KMIA in the mid 90's seen a lot of this hardware, both the props and the line of DC8s in the video. After they built 8L, it took some of the ramp area where these jewels were parked. I left MIA, but I'm sure most of these birds are elsewhere, if not in the scrap yard. Thanks for sharing these great memories.

In the early sixties I used to haunt Heathrow during school holidays - up on the roof of the Queen's Building at Central and taking the bus tour out to LAP North. Some happy memories recalled here. A Viscount would be nice, if there are still any to be found. I note the (what I think is) Convair 580. As a matter of minor interest, there is the shell of one parked facing the N1 Highway at a scrap yard in the Joostenbergvlakte area - on the way from Cape Town to Paarl.

Ah, your opening! I worked @ LAX from the beginning of 1971 thru the end of the decade, for JAL, and can remember (so well!) TWA's 880's (990's?) and those B707's. I'd stand out on the backside of our cargo building (on Imperial Hwy, south side of the airport ~ next to 25L and 25R) and watch those Convairs pour out the black smoke as if TWA (Delta too?) was getting paid for it!!!! Those were the best days for me ~ we operated the B747 and DC8F out of LAX at that time.

Remember watching prop planes at our local airport w/my Dad in the early 1960's. We walked right up to the fence next to the gate. Or, if you were a little guy like I was, you might prefer the upstairs observation deck. Loads of fun. No security. No fuss.

Thanks for the great VID. People get addicted to many things ~ I've been addicted to commercial airliners, jet & prop, for more than 40 years. I've logged more than 1,800,000 nautical miles in commercial aircraft (44 different configurations) and have never given up hope that the flight attendant/chief purser will come walking down the cabin, hands cupped to her mouth, screaming ........... "CAN ANYBODY HERE FLY A BOEING 747??!!" I swear if it ever happens, I'll stand up & raise my hand. :)

Thank you so much for this upload!! Brought back so many memories, especially the TAL DC6 Sky Trucks that were a daily sight at MIA in the 90s when I worked out of one the old warehouses close to the runway, close to the old Challenge (now UPS) building, in the mid of the "corrosion corner". Wonderful, thanks!!

Thanks for the video! I worked in MIA in the mid 90's and remember a lot of these type airplanes. Thought I saw a Convair 580, the best combination of airframe and engine. Too bad most are gone forever.

Got to fly on a DC-6 for a week and a half as an Observer and F/A on a flight over the North Atlantic staying in Newfoundland, looking for a Balloon named the Free Life with three people that had gone down in an attempt to cross the Atlantic. All souls perished. This was in 1970 I believe.

Never be afraid to ask a question, I'm actually glad you did.
That's a pretty rare de Havilland Canada Dash 7, the older sister of the Dash 8 that you see at airports all over the world. There were only 113 Dash 7's built, in contrast to the 1,200+ Dash 8's, which by the way, are still in production.
