Also, if you really think about it, all games today are released half baked and you're paying to test them. Arguably one of the best games in the past decade (BG3) was released very half baked and now it's rated as one of the best games of all time. I understand the argument but I take a different approach. If a company needs funding to continue developing a game I would rather they release it in early access so players can buy it and give feedback rather than seeking funding from investors who only care about selling more products and may force the product to be released too early. Or, the project is cancelled because of a lack of funding or the investors view it as a waste of resources.
Assuming they stick to two years of early access, this game will be in development up to an alpha state for 13 years. At this rate, we are looking at a 20 year development. With the last official funding posted at around $5.3 mil total, I can't imagine they will have the funds to keep going. If 30k people buy early access, which is unlikely, they would add another $1.2mil. This means the team will never grow, likely shrink, and development will never speed up. No ill will towards this project, but it would be a long shot for this to ever get "officially launched" in a truly polished state. My guess is it will stay in early access forever and eventually just end. People don't even think Ashes of Creation will release and that game has over 6x the funding with a team 4x the size and it's been in development for over 8 years.

I went for the EA. Yes, it's unpolished, but the experience is challenging and enjoyable. I came in knowing it takes a long time to develop games like this. Often over 10+ years. Even WOW took at least that long, they just did not announce publicly it until it was a lot more polished. These days, it's easy to find out about games in development well before they reach a polished state that would satisfy the player who just wants to play a game and not wait for upcoming content, etc. For me, there is enough for me to enjoy what is there while also being able to catch bugs, give feedback. and have something to do with friends and family who enjoy similar type games and understand the development stage. Pantheon is not a finished game, that is true. However, it has enough "meat" to it that it is interesting and I get to discover things for myself as well as feel a since of accomplishment for the things I achieve. The crafting system in place already has a good feel to it. It's not quick, but the grind is "just enough" to make you work at it that when you finally make that next piece of burlap fighting gloves, there is a sense of satisfaction and accomplishment.
Good take. I agree for the most part. I'm a few hours in and the game is challenging but fun. I'm lost but that's ok. It's nice not having a ton of guides out for the game or having a ton of pop ups on my screen for stuff to do. Also, no map feels weird but I'm ok with it.

I have been awaiting this game for so long. But the single thing stopping me from playing it is the wipes. I am not wasting my time putting time into a character and playing just to have it wiped. VERY disappointed in the dev's for releasing it in essentially an alpha state.
It's definitely in an alpha state right now. Honestly, I don't mind the wipes if it's for a good reason and results in a better player experience. But I'm used to creating new characters and playing through games multiple times so I enjoy that.
Yes there are quests and it's not easy to track them. The game doesn't have a map right now. But I didn't mention quests because they aren't important.
One thing people forgot or are ignorant of is that Covid19 hit small companies hard. This game was naking steady progress before that and covid hampered that. The graphics used to be wayyy better in detail but its clear they had to downgrade in order to save resources. The art style is actually good and gives it a classice feel. I never played EQ or most of the well known hardcore mmos but i am enjoying this game and wish for it to succeed! I dont believe the game is dying. In the last 1-2 years there has been a huge boost in development and things have come together from whatever hell they were in. I wouldn't have bought the EA if i hadnt seen that happen.
I'm hopeful for what it can become. I am having fun so far and if it keeps improving, I'm on board. COVID definitely set a bunch of studios back and we are still recovering from that
Two years is a reasonable time for a full release with early access. Still, I'm not confidence playing early access right now. I think I will be looking more about the early access experience of the game. I wonder if they have any European server which is working stable, and my biggest fear is that if they can continue to develop the game.
So they say. I for one do not believe it. You can go back and play EQ that is done with the same game play if you want a challenge. This was supposed to be an updated EQ with newer graphics and the same original game play. That's how it started and many supported them and it didn't turn out as promised. Pass for me.

Yes, pantheon is cooked. The everquest era is over, no good trying to create a game like it. Slow and clunky combat with forced grouping is done and dusted 👍🤗
So go play your pay to win games. Wow coin, eso xp potions, hundred doller houses,. Any mmo that is pretty will be pay to win mtx just like throne, arch age ect. Id argue the opposite eventually the youth will grow up and they will seek a slower more meaningful game without pay to win. Oneday you will grow up beyond your youth and will realize all those pretty things were lures to sell you something.
I've played about 2 hours and I'm not hating it either. Just got to the first city and it feels empty but I'm looking forward to exploring and leveling
2 years of early access now after 9 years of development. Where's the money gonna keep coming from? Especially if it's gonna bé 2 years of wipes, the player base is gonna die before the game releases like so many games that go through EA doing this same mistake.
I've always been skeptical of EA. On one hand it lets small developers get funding but then they release a half baked product, people buy in the hype and hate what it is, and then don't stick around for the final product which is actually really good. If it was just released in it's final state, it could bring in a lot of players and keep them. I'm afraid people will play the current Pantheon, not like it and go away just to never see the final product.
Sadly, I don't think this game will make it. On paper, old MMORPGs sound great, but then you get hit with the reality of low populations that can't sustain your game financially. I'm playing Ashes now, and while it looks and plays 10 times better than Pantheon, I don't think Ashes is going to be a success at release... It will release in 2-3 years with a low-pop player base slowly dying like New World.
Yeah this is true lol. Sadly. I been into Nyctermoon WoW. AI server with AI companions. I think they renamed it recently. But anyways it's fun, and it's FREE lol.
Server wipes? lol so I lose my progress, no thanks and the buttons look over bloated, usually I like playing something that I can just play on Xbox controller, perfect example, elder scrolls online, apart from the things I’ve mentioned, game looks great and I would of give it a go if both these problems where fixed, the servers will be eventually but looks hell of Grindy with all the buttons so therefore I’ll give this a miss
You do realize it takes millions to make pretty graphics. And the only reason games do it currently are for mtx pay to win purposes. Why do you think the goalpost moved not because of tech advancment but for greed advancment.
They used to have good graphics then they changed it cuze they "wanted to look unique" and unique is apperently ripping off everyone else and having those lame simplistic mobile gamey vibes.
Rx 590 amd 2700x here im doing fine. Their is some rubberbanding on two servers but the rest are working fine. The rubberbanding isnt a pc issue it is internal and im sure will be smoothed out.

There is a difference between early access release and a release.
You did not mention the quests. Will be there quests. Will be easy track them?
Yes there are quests and it's not easy to track them. The game doesn't have a map right now. But I didn't mention quests because they aren't important.
@@BraidedZero Ahh perfect. It's good to know that :)
If they stick to the two years, I think it's reasonable. With a quarterly roadmap and good progress we could have a great game in 2 years.
It actually... doesn't look bad at all!!
hopefully they upgrade the Graphics of the game lol. so dated but im still excited for this game
I like it’s more old school feel
Right, I don't think it's outdated graphics, I believe it's intentional
I'll gladly pay you next year, for a Buddy Pass today.
Ha! I bought it on Steam so I don't have a buddy pass.
happy with EA launch so far
Same. It needs work but that's what I expected going in so I'm not surprised or mad about it.
another 2 years.... geez
Yep! Buckle up!
So they say. I for one do not believe it. You can go back and play EQ that is done with the same game play if you want a challenge. This was supposed to be an updated EQ with newer graphics and the same original game play. That's how it started and many supported them and it didn't turn out as promised. Pass for me.
Have considered a monthly fee, have considered DLC ... sounds like they need to consider having a business plan. I give it 8-12 months
Yeah, that's a fair point. I take it as "we will be doing those things once the game fully releases but we don't want to scare you away"
@@BraidedZero which I then take as, we don't have faith in our product, or our team and would rather bait and switch than be transparent. Hopefully not but...
Buy it the game rocks
It's not bad so far. Definitely in the early stages
I would have played this in 2004.
I mean that's the entire point lol. It's for people who miss that market.
That's correct. Play it in 2024 to relive 2004 but with better gameplay.
Whats sad is that you have to rely on other players. Ugh forget doing anything by your self or quick. So if you have a life forget about it.
I like the fact that you'll need a community to do things. I have plenty of games I can play on my own. I want a group game
oh no, you have to rely on other players in an MMORPG and can't do the whole thing solo? what kind of crazy stupid design is THAT for a multiplayer game? dang pantheon is cooked
/s
Yes, pantheon is cooked. The everquest era is over, no good trying to create a game like it. Slow and clunky combat with forced grouping is done and dusted 👍🤗
So go play your pay to win games. Wow coin, eso xp potions, hundred doller houses,. Any mmo that is pretty will be pay to win mtx just like throne, arch age ect.
Id argue the opposite eventually the youth will grow up and they will seek a slower more meaningful game without pay to win.
Oneday you will grow up beyond your youth and will realize all those pretty things were lures to sell you something.
I played it and was able to solo as a summoner, but I had to be careful and sometimes had to run for the hills.
Played for an hr today. Seems just fine. Plays like a classic mmo. Feels like a true sequel to Vanilla EQ. Everquest 2 was kinda lame.
I've played about 2 hours and I'm not hating it either. Just got to the first city and it feels empty but I'm looking forward to exploring and leveling
the number 1 killer of an MMO. Is group activity.
2 years of early access now after 9 years of development. Where's the money gonna keep coming from? Especially if it's gonna bé 2 years of wipes, the player base is gonna die before the game releases like so many games that go through EA doing this same mistake.
exactly. where's the excitement for 'launch' when you've already been playing for 2 years!
Where is Bazgrim?
Good question. He hasn't posted in a long time
No Halfling Warrior?
Thats some 🐂💩
lol you cannot be whatever you want around here
Sadly, I don't think this game will make it.
I would rather play WOW Classic.
And I wouldn't blame you at all! Go do that
But you have done everything in classic and blizzard isnt making new classic style expansions. Your just on repeat forever.
The graphics already look dated. UE 5 AoC doesnt look as pretty as Thone and Liberty. Comments about the game aside, it was a pretty MMO.
I feel like it's the look they're going for. I'm not sure it's dated as much as it's their art style. At least, that's the vibe I get
if only every pretty MMO that came out lasted more than a few months lol
You do realize it takes millions to make pretty graphics. And the only reason games do it currently are for mtx pay to win purposes. Why do you think the goalpost moved not because of tech advancment but for greed advancment.
ea doesnt mean thw need give us shit like this
It's definitely rough. I'm still having fun exploring though
They used to have good graphics then they changed it cuze they "wanted to look unique" and unique is apperently ripping off everyone else and having those lame simplistic mobile gamey vibes.
So 2030 or 2035 pathetic.
At least 2027. So you can round it up lol
LOL :D
Game runs like crap on amd gpus.
I'm not sure it runs better on other GPUs
like frames wise or what? mine runs fine but my card does work hard from sound of it
Rx 590 amd 2700x here im doing fine.
Their is some rubberbanding on two servers but the rest are working fine. The rubberbanding isnt a pc issue it is internal and im sure will be smoothed out.
Let me be more specific, I meant it more in the sense that it's a beta so gameplay overall will not be as polished as AAA studios regardless of your components
Buy? Hahahaha. Who will pay for this s... t?
I did and so happy
Yeah, nah. I have no faith that this will ever be fully released and I'm not dropping almost $60AUD on something that had so much potential only to have it change course the way it has. I can play p99 or Quarm for free
looks hella alpha
It is definitely rough around the edges. Feels very alpha
lol
