    Nice to see someone who cares. Love this river-fished it for 30 years. Sadly it’s been over-run with multiple broods of gooseanders and cormorants (seen 12 on a tree last autumn), and as for planting trees, the massive beaver population on the earn will soon break your heart. I planted 20 trees along our banks 3 years ago, and all but 2 were wiped out in a period of a week. They are out of control already in parts of Perthshire, and nobody seems to fully grasp the effect on fly life/bank erosion/river shading. Also when John Young left the river and the stocking operation he was running ceased I noticed a marked difference in returning numbers for what it’s worth. If we can get a hatchery project going and a concerted effort to control FEBs, we might have a chance to bring the once mighty Earn back.

      Thanks for the comments, we're certainly taking up the gauntlet. There are now over a dozen FEB licence holders on the system compared to three last year and we have a couple of hatchery programmes running but are keen to scale them up more. Where was the cormorant roost, Dupplin?

      Cormorants, mink, otters and seals and beavers when tenfold more back in the days but the salmon was tenfold too so nope, that's not the sollution. Farmed salmon from us Norwegians is the problem... Hatchery fish grow smaller and have les survivability than wild fish so that's not the sollution either...Farmed salmon is the main problem with the lice and deseases. a Brand new research result was just released here in Norway and 1 out of 6 salmon where infected with various bacteria and viruses from farmed salmon on top of the already known disaster wich is lice killing the smolts. And the wild salmon doesent get medication so if contaminated its a guaranteed death...

      Tha ks for watching. I think everyone has their theories. The big unknown is what's actually happening at sea, we don't know enough about that side of it. If we could follow 1000 of them and see when and where they are dying or being caught etc that would be a big step forward. Two many unknowns unfortunately We can only try to help with the issues we know about.

      @@scottishoutdoorlife I am Norwegian and noone knows more about the problems with farmed salmon vs wild salmon than Norway since we have almost all of it but ok, Farmed salmon is good for the wild salmon and the only problems wild salmon have are a seal and a cormorant here and there. Ok sir if you say so i will obv listen to the expert.

      I think you misunderstand me, I wasn't disagreeing with you. I simply meant some people think one issue has a bigger affect than another. The salmon have threats everywhere the go, climate change, predation, marine environment etc in my opinion everything is contributing in a small way. What I will say is that I believe hatcheries have their place in the correct setting and used in the correct way. Thanks 👍

    Really enjoyed that as caught my first salmon just below that bridge as an 11 year old in 1982. The old road bridge was just downstream of that bridge too and I had a fish below it that season too. The Earn had incredible runs of fish then. Good luck with your endeavours to improve the river.

      Thanks for watching and the comments. I had 2 fish when I was 8 off the Dunning beat just further down. Hopefully we can improve the River. We'll certainly keep trying.

    Nice to see the club water from a different perspective Ian, I usually fish right down after the bridge pool and apart from 1 follow last season not a thing, maybe a heavier lure is required tight into the high bank, when I used to come up to fish with my Dad many years ago he would fish at the tree at the end of the banks and send me over the hill to fish, presumably to get some peace 😊.

    • @scottishoutdoorlife

      It looks and fishes completely different. Nice to see it from a different perspective. I'm sure my dad tried that a few times too 🤣

    Good work on the river improvement, how the governments are not on this is beyond me, all British isles and Ireland has been badly affected… action needed asap….
    And yeah a serious cull on predators..

    • @scottishoutdoorlife
      @scottishoutdoorlife  4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Thanks, definitely more focus required by the government's. We now have over 12 Fish Eating Bird Licence holders throughout the system so that will help especially ag smolt time.

      Thanks for your support. You should give Kinkell a try too. It has some lovely fly water. Did you have any luck.

      @markj3853 3 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      No, but i enjoyed the CAC beats and i fished for grayling and trout too and caught a nice grayling of 1 1/2lb or so. I will fish Kinkell next time or Moncrieff.

    • @scottishoutdoorlife
      @scottishoutdoorlife  3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      It's a very underestimated river for its trout, sea trout and grayling.

    Always thought that bit beyond the road bridge looked fishy and wondered how to get on it. Cracking run and bend. Thought it might be good fir seatrout. Reminds me of the towi.

      Hi Colin, thanks for watching. You can get a trout and grayling ticket through Dunning Angling Club for the other bank. Some nice trout and grayling in it.

    One of the biggest problems you did not say seals the wee rivers near us used to hold hundreds of salmon and I’ve seen with my own eyes seals playing with salmon like toys it was like a blood bath must off been 20 plus seals nothing being said about them fair enough might not be the main cause of decrease in every river but the local ones near me they certainly have a huge impact

    • @scottishoutdoorlife
      @scottishoutdoorlife  3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Definitely an issue, I totally agree. Although one that we can't do much about in the short term unfortunately. Thanks for watching 👍

      Hi, thanks for watching. So the REIA is a charitable organisation trying to improve the river. Membership doesn't give you any fishing. Try Ben at Kinkell Bridge, Dunning Angling Club or Crieff Angling Club, they all sell trout and grayling tickets.

    Have had a good few days on the earn not fished it for a long time used to fish the beat bellow glen eagles was great for sea trout at this time of year then salmon bit later on the beavers will be a problem as are cormerants they cause a lot of damage that no one is interested in appart from us anglers

    • @scottishoutdoorlife
      @scottishoutdoorlife  4 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Yes it's underestimated for sea trout. We now have 12 FEB licence holders up and down the system which will help. Thanks for watching 👍

    Fished wer you are for over 50 yrs . Your beet fish mostly all spawning in the Ruthven burn .the tay and tweed foundation electra fished the burn maybe 10 years ago.striped all of the salmon.an with the other problems with the fish .there is no fish spawning in the Ruthven maybe the tay an tweed guys would help you with eggs to put back in the Ruthven. Thanks, we've a lower river trial to do for Marine Scotland which would inevitably end up with eggs. We just didn't catch enough last year but the plan is to repopulate the Ruthven, Dunning burn, May, Macheny with eggs. It definitely needs something to kick start things again.
