My favorite of all time anime series. Corrupted when I first saw it in 1980; never stopping loving it! Coolest heroes (Avatar, Wildstar, Venture) Coolest heroine/first anime crush (Nova) Coolest villain/antihero (Desslok). Anyone who has never seen this show is just deprived.
I have seen the modern reboot of the show called Space Battleship Yamato 2199 There is an english dubbed version i'm sure you would enjoy, though the characters retain their original Japanese names instead of the american names they've had in Starblazers You are gonna have to pay for a Crunchyroll subscription, though
You said it, brother. But don't let anyone stay deprived! Find those persons with true hearts and open minds and pass on to them the treasure! I watched it with my children about a half dozen years ago (ages 18, 11, 7) and made sure from the start that they knew how precious it was to me. They viewed it with that predisposition and, sure enough, they liked it and thanked me for it. Well, they've gone through a lot of maturing since then and, since they didn't remember the show very well, they asked last year to rewatch it with me... and they were completely blown away by it! It came to mean just about everything to them that it does to me! Now it's a beloved treasure to them as well, and for the rest of their lives! Hallelujah!
I don't care what season or what version of the show we are watching, that song and music will always move me. I get chills everytime I hear it. I loved the series including the remake!
I loved getting home from school and watching this, back in the day. Most contemporary anime is so nonsensical that it's unrecognizable. Bring back '70s anime!
Conroy & Hardy were the Star Force's best pilots. I remember crying when Conroy died. He was 100% soldier. He refused to die until he finished his mission. TH-cam doesn't show the complete ending of that scene. Starblazers turned little boys into real men. I learned a lot about honor watching this.
I still remember the morning that I watched my first episode of Star Blazers. It was a Season 2 episode; I didn't know any backstory, I didn't know what the Star Force was, I didn't know what the IJN Yamato was, but it didn't matter - I was totally and irrevocably hooked by the first 15 seconds of this intro.
I've been watching Yamato 2199 on TH-cam. What a great series. THAT is how you reboot a classic. I hope the also do a new adaptation of the Comet Empire series.
now when we know Space Battleship Yamato 2202 is a thing, i hope it comes on kissanime with english subtitles, and if it does, my life will be more worth living
I remember this show being on new york's wnew channel 5 at 6:30 am after the new zoo revue even though the show have bounced from afternoon to morning timeslot!
Holy shit New Zoo Review?! Nostalgia-gasm. Makes me think of The Great Space Coaster, Slim Goodbody, Danger Island... Gen-X... we definitely had some weird shit.
My 1st Anime. Before I ever knew the word Anime. Growing up in Maine we didn’t get much diversity. This was great & I found out at school that i was the only girl that watched it.
We’re off to outer space We're leaving mother Earth To save, the human race Our Star Blazers A cry for help, a desperate plight Makes the star force reunite The comet empire awaits We must be strong and brave To stop his evil ways If Zordon plot should work He’ll destroy the universe We’ll fight the comet empire Battle through the raging fire Filled with the hope that Earth will survive We’ll keep peace alive with our Star Blazers
The new Japanese reboot is really good too. They kept many of the classic features. Just a visual update mostly. I'm impressed with it. www.crunchyroll.com/star-blazers-space-battleship-yamato-2199
I remember as a kid watching Sgt Knox sacrifice himself, but the american version of SB, you hear Sandor say his ship made it out. When I was older I saw the unedited version and was like, yeah I knew he didn't.
If you like that, the new Space Battleship Yamato 2199 was released last April in Japan. The 26-episode arc will be shown on 7 movies. It's the same Quest for Iscandar series using today's animation and new voice actors. Haven't heard whether the English Dubbed version will be made for America yet.
to be pedantic, the comet empire storyline WAS a movie first, it was popular enough to warrant being adapted into a full series, although with certain changes made to the ending. (the movie was called "farewell to space battleship yamato")
My favorite part of the second season intro starts at 1:00 through the end when Yamato is flying at the axis of the Comet Empire city blasting it with the shock cannons
I know it's a translation and who knows what Kodai actually said, but when the Star Force FINALLY has the Comet Empire on the ropes and he yells, "All guns open fire on the Comet Empire!" or something like that...just so awesome. So many losses for the Earth and Star Force to get there, but when you're headed for the checkmate it doesn't matter what's left on the board just need what's necessary to win.
it is missing a lot when it willie whistle plaid it they never pretended sgt. knox survived . wild star was on a suicide mission till Tralaina showed up
I still get the chills listening to the Star Blazers theme music :)
One of the greatest SF themes ever. Pops orchestras should be performing it the land over.

you took the words right out of my mouth buy I remember watching star blazer before school
Your comment was fine with the top sentence. Then you had to go and be a fucking boomer in the second sentence.
Fran Gorno lol I’m not a boomer but I agree :P
@@tommygun2491 Then you're a boomer at heart.
IKR -- most of today's anime is so choppily-edited you can't follow it. It seems like it was made by a porn director with ADHD.

We will be seeing an episode from Star Blazers 2199, English-dubbed from Voyager Entertainment, at San Diego Comic-Con. Can't wait to see it.
Marc Morrell That sounds great! I never missed an episode of Star Blazers when I was a kid. I loved that show. I'm a big Yamato fan.

sweet. i figured it out a few thays ago myself, but thanks for spreading the news
I fucken loved this cartoon in the '80s! It was great because the story continues through all episodes!
From New Zoo Revue to this...talk about a hard transition....
One of the Best most EPIC themes EVER
My god! The intro music alone just brings back the memories. They showed this on WUTV Buffalo wayyy back in the early 1980's.
I still love it, and yes, I am still a kid... on the inside.
Hell yeah
My 1st Anime. Before I ever knew the word Anime. Growing up in Maine we didn’t get much diversity. This was great & I found out at school that i was the only girl that watched it.
Epic theme song! Loved this show as a kid.
thank you man bring me back those days before going to school and 5min p penalty being late I do it again happy memories.
Are you from Canada too . I would watch this before school back in the day

Missed the part before "The comet empire awaits" .... As we rush to meet our fate
...just like on WATL 36 Atlanta in the early 80s
@newfie2keith: Before my family and I relocated to Buffalo in 1980, I used to see this show on WGNO TV 26 down in N'yawlinz.

The Comet Empire! There we go! Classic!
Oh holy crap, this was top of the list of school chat next day in year 3-5
I had a model of the Yamato as a kid, my god all the guns took me forever!!!
Best series ever !

The Argo rules.
Why did the Yamato have an anchor on the side?
because it was a salvaged ocean ship and converted to a star ship
It's a rocket anchor so that it can attach it to other ship
When they arrived at Iscadar,.....they used it on a moon! Also as a grappling hook!
Because it looks cool. Does there need to be another reason? Lol. And yes they did actually use it a few times on the show.
Because it's a space battleship.
Yous love it or hate it me do not care me love it
IF ZORDAR's plot should work, he'll destroy the universe....where the fk is he gonna live then?!? =D

Meh, I don't like yamato 2199 much. I've watched it subbed, and it's pretty bad in my opinion. Though that was only, like, the pilot.
