This one video gave me like 10 goals over the winter windy season. Gwen, that “fake gybe tack” maneuver is such a graceful move, on fire 🙌🔥🔥🔥 love the insights and motivation

The expanded finger position is called a “sprug” in climbing when a crack is slightly larger than your hands.
Incidentally I sometimes use a climbing technique called a hand jam to give my fingers a rest on those overpowered sessions - basically form a small fist against the handles and use outward compression instead of the fingers - useful for all those winter wingers with thick gloves that induce massive pump.

Aside, but Damo the 80’s cartoon PSA advice you sometimes include in your episodes hit today. So as corny as it seems sometimes to tell a “grown ass man” (google it) to do XYZ - when it lands it’s much more important than every other time someone might have had a cynical response to it. Keep it up.

I've been trying to get this sorted for a little while now, have had a few wobbly backwinded rides but mainly get slammed backwards by the wing. I can't seem to feel that power control, when the apparent wind comes back again from turning downwind. Are you holding a strong front hand and feathering the power with the back hand?

    • @DamienLeroyYouTube

You can reduce the power from your wing by going more downwind, if it seems like you're going out of control too fast, you may be overpowered (try a smaller wing). Try doing downwind 360s and stay backwinded a bit longer as you progress, slowly increase time spent backwinded from there. Hope this helps!

@@DamienLeroyTH-cam thanks for the suggestions. I'm going pretty downwind as it is, so end up almost going over the nose of the board when I get slammed. I've got my 360s pretty dialled, so getting a bit frustrated that this has taken as long as it has to learn, but that's part of the journey, right!?! 😂

You will get it no doubt, it's all part of the journey you're right!
