Singapore is pursuing material wealth and our government’s policies are geared to making the society richer. In the process, people are stressed and pressured and hence mental issues surface.
Mr Loo, you are not overthinking. Its getting worse and unsafe in Singapore. Most of this incidents, i probably think they are mental illness developed from stress. And where does this stress come from.. we all know... Personally, i also don't feel safe at the moment in Singapore. Just don't know what will happen when you accidentally pissed someone off in public..
The constant noise from grass cutting, leave blowing, tree trimming, foreigner inconsiderate noises....motor cycles zooming in the middle of the night...affects sleeping & resting quality. All add up to latent stress which will attack anyone at anytime.
Stress and hardship. People reaching breaking point. SG police presence and severity of the law and consequences not enough as deterrance. Stay home, stay safe! 😅
fabric of our society has changed, 60% foreigners, 40% locals or the other way around, either way, home doesn't feel home. People with different culture, values and upbringing are brought in without considerations of the locals yet locals were taught to tolerate with their nonsense.
Life is too stressful for most of the people living here. Some of them are giving up in despair and in their desperation and anger, they don't even bother to think about the kind of consequences for their actions. This is the price that Singaporeans are paying for in order to be at the top of everything. Life is a constant struggle for most of the people living here.
Is our law tough enough to serve as a deterrent? Just look at the recent change in traffic law which becomes more lenient than before, I had read a number of cases where a precious life was killed on the road but the culprit's jail term was only a few weeks. Something is seriously wrong

Similar trend in China...reasons? Decent living getting too expensive...stress is pushing people to cross the line...this would continue and escalate most probably in alignment with real estate prices in Singapore
No, China still relatively low cost of living as they produce a lot of their food and products. In China, cars especially Chinese brands are easily cheaper than most developed countries, whereas cost of a car in Singapore is 4x that of developed countries. They also don't need to import everything like Singapore. Their cost of living is very much lower than Singapore, Japan and Korea.
@@s._3560 You have a point. However, there are so many unemployed in China now and most people lost huge savings from property crash, so on that basis, they are also finding living more expensive. The current prices in China are set by past strong economy, which is why now it is facing price deflation. The reasons may be different for China and Singapore, but the end effect is the same....too expensive to live..so similar developments are happening in the society

It is importance of having outlets for people to express themselves and manage stress. When individuals lack access to those outlets, they may turn to senseless crime as a coping mechanism. Certain outlet, pursuit mostly by ah tiong, are getting more frustratingly inaccessible due to raid and inflation. JB does not have this type of frustration.

My heart goes to the victims. From a level headed point of view, 1) perhaps all the while, the number of senseless crimes had been more or less the same? Due to the proliferation of media coverage, we tend to put more attention to such news as compared to previous times. Perhaps looking at the number of crimes in aggregate as reported by the police on a periodic basis will be more accurate Perhaps no need to over think for now until we see a clear rising trend of crime rates 2) likewise, we don’t have the actual figures to prove that Singapore violent crime rate is are higher in recent times as compared to Jb. So not conclusive if just based on recent reported incidents on media
Simplest thing to do is to silent the report of such cases, then everything is Hunky and Dory. Order social media platform to take down videos and wadnots of "Violent in Nature", then SG will be back to the most affluent country with safest social order... If we never see it or hear it, it never happen. If u talk about it, then u are the dissident. Soon it will be 0 tolerance for dissent, not violence.
Cannot always blame it on stress, frustration, hardship or difficult life in sg. Sometimes people just lose it... Police can only handle it on a case by case basis.
besides the psychological profile, will be good to know the socioeconomic backgrounds of the assailants. bottled up frustration has a context. mental health support is just a symptomatic intervention. the broader systemic issues are economy, means, marginalisation/opportunity, unconscious bias, the perceived/real lack of recourse for certain grievances.
Quite surprised to hear so many violent crimes in recent times in SG. Always had the impression its one of the safest places on Earth. Dont hear many in Msia these days but maybe its unreported.
Possible due to pressure caused by high cost of living, job loss ( foreign talents issue), lack of establishing core value of personal attitude towards society ( like japan where one will try to avoid create trouble to the society and all are paid reasoable wages regardless of trades/profession ), media influence ? Gov to address the issue from the root cause and not cosmetic support
Do agree with the bottle up stress among people but maybe Mr Loo should stop comparing Singapore with JB on crimes. We do not read Malaysia news and we don't know how many violent crimes happen there so just stop comparing.

In Malaysia violent crimes are much more prevalent and often unreported. Because basically the Malaysia Police bo-chap when the victims are Chinese race. SG is way, way safer than many other countries. Definitely, much safer than JB. Just look at women here. They can go out on their own at night and return home safely without fear. Women here can wear whatever they want, even high end jewellery and not get attacked. This is the best measure of safety in any country. Women cannot do this in many other countries. Here , we have CCTV along many footpaths. It is a big deterrent to crime. Criminals get caught easily. Unfortunately, people do watch pornography and violent materials online. It’s inevitable that some will have urges to take on undesirable values seen on such entertainment sites. Some have mental health issues too arising from themselves, family or work. They are not well equipped to cope with stress, or lack moral values and motivation to be a good person.
