In the 2012 Super Bowl between the 49ers and Ravens, I recall Phil Simms, former NY Giant and rival of those 80s and early 90s 49er teams, was one of the announcers. There was a critical moment when Colin Kaepernick threw a pass so high that not even Randy Moss had a chance to jump for it, sailed over, and Ed Reed picked it off. Phil Simms mentioned that Kaepernick just became the first 49ers QB to throw an interception in the Super Bowl. The 49ers have had 5 appearances in the big game before. He specifically said Montana never threw an INT in 4 appearances. Steve Young not one in his single appearance. "They got championships." One of the harshest burns ever.
@@9eRw1n HAS nothing to do with that. Lousy call. Malone delivery to the rim. However, John Stockton was the real mailman if you compare it with football. Montana delivered to Rice, Craig. Stockton delivered to Malone. Sorry gee, bad cal.

Montana even more. Jordan won in the 90's. The 1980's NBA East was a lot better overall. Look it up. Not just Bird and the celtics. The 90's east as a whole was not strong. Yes Penny and Shaq were going to be great and they got to the finals young but then Shaq left . Orlando would have given Chicago more trouble as time went on if they stayed but they didn't. My Knicks while tough and rugged were not the same level of skill as Detroit Bad Boys had and Chicago was already used to that. Montana played against the NY Giants Big Blue Wrecking Crew for a decade. To me it was more Montana and Wayne Gretzky were pure winners. Having watched Montana play, it's amazing how he makes it sound like he just gave the ball to someone else who made the play. He was just amazing to watch.

One of the reasons he is revered as a QB and player, he is because he is so unassuming. He was the coolest mailman, but in his prime, a stone cold killer.
Joe Montana was the greatest manager of the game in the history of the NFL. Let's see. Montana managed everything on the field- his offense, his defense, and the entire opposite team, actually he managed every single person on the field - coaches from both teams, (seriously, because the other team staff had to make adjustments all the time if they want to stop Montana), Joe managed the referees (quietly and smooth, no yells, no screams, just his soft and seduced smile), he managed the crowd, the waterboys, even the security guys (sometimes the plays were so amazing, the folks want to jump into the field). Joe Montana was the real Silent Assassin (How about that smile all the time?). Joe Montana is as good as a classic rock and roll from the 70's - Led Zeppelin, Pink Floyd, Grateful Dead, Allman Brothers. Period.

Brady got more rings. But Joe Montana will forever be THE GOAT. You do t see this guy all on the media or making headlines.hes almost Houston a regular person walking the street. But who's a legend.
A couple of things: somebody should ask Belichick how many seasons Brady would have lasted if Lawrence Taylor, imho the greatest defensive player ever, was on the other side of the ball. Phil Simms had Taylor on his team and he played one season less than Montana. To introduce my son to LT, I showed him highlights--my son's not a football player, but he said: every highlight is a personal foul. The other thing is the 49ers do not have a great offensive line and Shanahan's plays take a while to develop, but I never hear Purdy complaining
The late Wayne Walker said it best...Joe is as cool as the other side of the pillow🤙👏🫶🙏. I became a 49er even when they were so bad that they couldn't give away tickets😂 then, Walsh n Montana came along and changed our mentality from the agony of defeat, to thrill of victory 🎉🎉🎉.
The object of the game is for the best team to win. If a quarterback has most valuable player of the game type of numbers and loses, give me the game manager who wins instead.
I actually view this guy as the GOAT. Joe is like MJ in basketball, saved their best for the biggest moments. I can't think of anyone else that played in superbowl that much that didn't at least choke occasionally.
Overall, a great interwiew. But neither of the participants corrected the other on two flagrant ommisions, Joe not mentioning DWIGHT CLARK among the list of his heralded team mates, and the interviewer not mentioning that Purdy is the qb the fans have been longing for since the departure of the great STEVE YOUNG.😊
Joe Montana: “As a quarterback, I figured out that the offense wasn’t about me.” My gosh, no wonder this man was one of the best (if not the best) quarterbacks ever. Unlike most of today’s superstar quarterback wannabes, his stats didn’t matter. What mattered was winning games for the TEAM. He also played when quarterbacks were also football players, taking hits and not getting extra protection from the rules and the officials.

I remember the game where he came in when Jimmy G went down. My only critique after that game was he did have any velocity when he threw the ball but then I realized that what he doesn't have in velocity he had accuracy. He didn't beat you with the bomb passes, he chipped away at the defense until he saw the weak spot and then just took over!
Love the story at the end when he was ducking Bill Walsh so he wouldn't have to go in against the Cowboys when Steve DeBerg was getting crushed on every play
