I have never heard a dad-interpretation of these lyrics before ^^ Great twist ;) It is about the French Revolution though. There is an alternative video that might make it clearer. If you liked this, you might try 'Champion of the World' by Coldplay :)
Thank you! I was taking some liberty with my spin. I can't relate to actual rulers, and even the rulers deposed in the French Revolution didn't "rule the world", so I took it to what I could relate to - our changing roles over the course of our (my) mundane life as we age. Our influence over our family can wane. That's how it hit me that night, anyway.
