I wasn't going to watch this one because I thought, "I'm good at formatting, this won't show me anything I don't know." Then I thought, "Nope, I bet there's gonna be some type of trick in there I didn't know about." And lo and behold...I didn't know about the double clicking format painter trick! :)

I am still getting a negative sign for negative numbers in accounting format instead of getting the number in paranthesis. Do you have any clue as to why that is happening?

Hey Mike, thanks for your amazing lessons. Please allow me to add, that in example 3 you can first merge the headline, then doubleclick the coloum and then unmerge the headline again. So you have the optimal width in all columns. Greentings from Germany! Dirk

I would try to apply General so you can start over, and then apply the Accounting again. Otherwise, it might be your reginal settings. It is very odd that when you apply Accounting the ( ) do not show up, because that is the hallmark of Accounting Number Format. If your regional seetings are different, you could do this: Ctrl + 1, Number Tab, Custom, then in the type text box use this code: _($* #,##0.00_);_($* (#,##0.00);_($* "-"??_);_(@_)

Yes, the sad truth is this: there is not one paid class anywhere on the internet that tells the story of how to use Excel efficiently that is as carefully told as the story that I teach. Not one class anywhere on the internet that provides the complete story of Excel tools and concepts, except for this Excel Basics class. And yet, most of the videos I post languish with few views and little support (as compared to some other Excel TH-camrs), and the demand for these types of video is not accurately matched up with this free supply. @@excelisfun It may be a smaller source to draw from but I found you as a recommendation on the accounting reddit page as the best way to learn excel.

Hi, Sir thanks for your video. I just have a quick question. My accounting number format does not work on the negative number as it still showing like the currency style when I format it to accounting number formatting. Any solution for that?
In another word, my negative accounting format does not display in parenthesis.

One thing that is not mentioned in this video is that structured references from excel tables do not play well with conditional formatting (eg. if you try to add something like "table[amount]" to the format formula). You have to manually add the relative cells on the style and if you, for example, add new dynamic rows or columns to the table then the format doesn't update as it should.
I would like to know if there are alternatives to this. I was trying to compare 2 excel tables the other day with a conditional formatting rule in order to weed out differences, but I couldn't do it. I had to create a new row between both tables and it wasn't even a dynamic check, it was just a manual one that wouldn't work if I were to add a new entry to both tables.
In the top X% conditional formatting what does excel compare the values to?

Looks like I'm getting close to finishing Excel Basics...starting to eye the Advanced Excel playlist and vids on Power Query.
Two things in this video that I got really stoked about: #1: Format painter (huge time saver. Wow!) #2: Command "Alt+Enter" (THIS ONE! WOW! So simple, but trying to add text brakes in the past without knowing this was a headache! I had a few invoices I created for some people (small home repairs and some larger carpentry projects). I would resort to Text Wrapping, then adjusting the column size to get my text to look the way I wanted it. THIS is WAY easier. Ha! Love it! Thanks, man!
I agree; Alt + Enter is mandatory for efficiny. There is one Power Query and one Power Pivot in this class, so it will prime you well for the next! Thanks for the support, Anderson 40th!!!!!
