In order to retain certain information, you must always pay reason attention while study, test your self as you go along, while the information is grasp in your brain, try explaining to someone else.
Same thing applies to theory. Mathematical theorems are also built on theories. Any theoretical concept always have foundational knowledge in which the complex ones are built on. Try getting a dictionary on the subject you’re trying to study. Check out specific theory you’re finding difficult to grasp. That should help
