I shoot on the street, in parks, and in clubs for fun in Russia when I am not in the studio shooting for income, mostly for stage actors. I it is VERY rare to have a random subject-object and when they do, they say they do not look their best, and I ofter to do it again when they are focused on me and the camera. These girls are normal in Russia, usually well dressed, good posture, fit, and well groomed, that is the social norm here. I am from the US where there would be objections and a lot fewer interesting subjects. I talk to them only after taking the shot, using a wide open 200 mm lens so there is good subject isolation and far enough away to get them lost in thought or that neutral face when one is commuting by foot. When they see the camera on the second or 3rd frame they always smile. I smile back and offer then a card with a dropbox link so they can download the photos from that day. I do not ask for contact info, but the card has mine so many contact me thanking me or asking for studio shots. I don't use it to promote business, it is just fun for me and I meet some really lovely women who become friends. It is part of the culture and if a man is polite and has something interesting to say, every one of them would be open for conversation. There are a few traits in common with all these girls: they all have college degrees, all are pleasant and happy, and all are highly cultured and well-mannered. You can see it in their easy relaxed natural smiles, nothing forced. I also shoot in jazz and dance clubs, in drama theaters, and museums. My current girlfriend was walking down the street lost in thought when I took a photo of her in that passive relaxed face people have in walking to get somewhere. For many, it is a better look than a smile. And after hundreds of photos, posed or not, often during foreign travel, that first natural passive face photo taken 8 years ago is my favorite. She is a pretty blonde, fit, smart, and highly cultured, speaks 3 languages, and is an enthusiastic and easy traveler, so far to 28 countries. She is also a lawyer but prefers being a tour guide and an excellent experimental cook. These photos are typical on the streets of any Russian city, not just Moscow. But the person posting them did not take them, he "borrowed" them from another street photographer who already posted them on TikTok. The naturalness and open sense of self of Russians is one of the joys of being here for 22 years, they are all easy to meet and have a delightful conversation, and very often leads to friendship. I doubt I have gone a day in the last 22 years where I did not meet another really attractive, friendly, and appealing woman. I have an interesting background so there is always something we have in common.
