I'll never forget the feeling of awe when my Dad showed me that picture in the newspaper. It was a broadsheet and they spread it across an entire page so they could print it large enough to show the details. I was 11 and suddenly aware of the sheer scale of the cosmos.
What amazes me about the pillars is that, in a way, the heads look almost like some weird alien creatures. The one in the background (the largest one) has a gaping mouth that looks like a fish and the one in the foreground looks like some sauropod with its crested head.
I can't fathom why your channel doesn't have at least a million subscribers!!!! You're doing a great work. The information, visuals, audio quality are not any less than those of biggest TH-cam channels. Keep up the good work. ❤️
The pillars have forever been one of the most striking images of space I've ever seen. Every other nebula has me amazed, but simultaneously thinking "that's not the pillars of creation" So maybe I'm biased, but this may be the best YT space video I've seen. My emotions even got me choking for bit there by the end. Well done! And just as yourself probably, I can't wait for JWST footage on this wonderful part of space.
I know what you mean, maybe it’s a nostalgia thing.. I don’t know, but they seem so special to me, and clearly to you too. I can’t wait to see the JWST images when it finally looks at the nebula. Let me know if you do hear anything
I’ve seen a bunch of videos which focus or touch upon the pillars. Nevertheless, there were many points in this video that weren’t often touched upon by the others. Your love for the topic really comes through.
Me too! I just saw this and thought the exact same thing! The Pillars of Creation has fascinated me since I was a kid. I thought I knew everything I needed to know about them but this video packed more fascinating facts (I did not already know) in 11 minutes than an hour long Nova episode. And this video came out *before* the even more awesome James Webb version! (Judging by the date of the video he preceded JW by only a few weeks.) This is the first time I've Subscribed to a channel based on a single 11 minute video in a long time!
The way you describe star birth reminds me of what happens when a baby elephant is born: the herd gathers near, trumpeting their excitement and joy. Finding that these could've been history in only a thousand years was a jolt.
What a wonderful moving video. Thank you. I already knew some of the Pillars of Creation from my research and readings, but your reverential tone merged with current technology & data, what we can hopefully expect from future Webb visits set your video apart with its images and explanations. Thanks.
Are the pillars 7000 light years away for sure? cause we see the something thats here from 7000 light years ago so the void they left when they exploded if far away cause we cant see it or did we see it is my thought right though?
@@SpaceisAce I found your channel from a comment on a Cool Worlds video. I like your voice and your videos are amazing. You remind me a lot of the channel called Sea. Keep up the great work homefry!
Its relative to their shape. The base being the bottom part of the pillar, so to speak. They are like skyscrapers standing tall and pointing towards the stars in the centre of the Eagle Nebula... so the brightly lit "heads" of the pillars are at the top... just like the roof on a building facing the sun
Willayzero, I don't care for the Webb photos. The colors shown here are my personal favorites. This is the poster on our wall. We like the ethereal greens and earthy rust shades, rather than the harsh colors of the Webb infrared. (To say nothing of the Elden Beast effect!)
They are living life forms. We just can’t comprehend that they are because we have never seen nothing like them. You can see the same figures in the James Web Nibula images.
There’s a video out there that showcases that, but it shows our solar system. It’s essentially a pixel in one of the corners of the pillars. You’d have to zoom in INCREDIBLY far to see our solar system if it was plopped in the pillars. Our entire solar system is essentially a pixel on a computer monitor, and the computer monitor is the pillars.

What makes the earth so special? It is the home that God gave to mankind for all eternity. It was specifically designed for the support and sustainability of life both human and animal. Man was put here as a caretaker of the planet and entrusted to oversee its safety and the safety of every living creature. Genesis Chapters 1 and 2 in the Bible explains the responsibility bestowed on mankind and what we were to do with this planet Earth.

That’s awesome… exactly how I felt too when I had it in a big picture book when I was a kid.. so captivating

Its look reminds me of a person praying.
Putting the hands up and sitting on its knees.
Great video!
Breath taking, Absolutely Awesome, No doubt the creator our creator is awesome as well and this just draws me closer to him. James 4:8💖🌏💖

What if the base is the top? Or the side?? I thought there was no up or down in space???
Great video👍👍👏👏

There could be a society chilling within the Pillars of Creation without knowing the cosmic Importance of them
In infrared it looks like the Elden beast

For a sense of scale of size would it be possible to superimpose an rendition of the Milky Way galaxy in the same picture?

These nebula only exist from a huge distance. Just the 5 light year size would be eternity to us.
The quote comes from Immanuel Kant!

You’re asking the big questions
@@SpaceisAce To paraphrase Einstein, "Why do people ask me what God looks like? I don't know!"

I knew Eagle Nebula was a GD. 🔱
Just kidding, amazing pic.
The pillars look like father motherand chold in her hands
Fun fact: they're actually red and magenta. This is due to the amount of hydrogen gas in them.
The pillars of creation were likely destroyed 6000 or less light years ago even if the super nova didn't touch it a while ago
Also, we're all going to die someday. Thanks, Debbie Downer.
