nope, he was absolute clown. acted like he he could have done an amazing job. Remember he was failed footballer who couldn't even get a game for Shamrock Rovers, let alone be manager.
Actually he honed his “skill” in attacking Irish managers with Eoin Hand. Dunphy came back from England to assist John Giles managing shamrock rovers, training the youths etc. But it didn’t take him long to realise that talking and writing about football was way easier and better paying than actually doing it. He was of course facilitated in this by RTE, for whom he was a football panellist for an unbelievable 40 years. Being controversial, which included attacking football managers, was very much the reason why he was with the national broadcaster for this incredible length of time.
Giles bit at the start pretty much sums up how I felt about the whole Kerr reign. I hated the Kerr era, it was such a cowardly conservative approach against pretty much everyone. His style of football was poisonous. They never had a go against anyone. They somehow put a tremendous performance against France in Paris but lord knows how that happened. Funny thing watching Dunphy ranting years later. There's always a great player not playing in his eyes.
