Not enough intimate scenes between Carmilla and Lara. I wish there were more lol. I HATE Ms. Fontaine cuz she cut their romance short. I also feel bad for Carmilla, she doesn't deserve her fate.
I have seen all the adaptations of karmilla and although this is a bit weak I must admit that if it entertained me, I was very sorry for Lara's story a miserable and tragic lonely life, it breaks my heart that final scene of her at the lake lamenting and being alone this version of karmilla surprisingly is not a vampire, it seems that she is more like a witch because I do not remember that she has bitten anyone nor was she actually shown to be as far as I remember interesting movie, congratulations
I felt the same, it's just a sweet left-handed girl and a cool goth girl (witchy girl?) fell in love with one another back in 19th century, but cost their life to be different..😢 lesson learned - always remember to lock the door.. jk 😅

The strong link between vampirism and lesbianism in the Western imagination and cultural tradition derives from the deep-rooted and profound fear that it transmits towards diversity and freedom. I would like to add that in my opinion there is also a deep fear of love, beauty and bliss. And the haters are right, because love and bliss are the enemies of conformity, the very forces that have the power to initiate an overthrow of oppression.
This is a very sad but absolutely worth watching film, with beautiful cinematography and deep symbolistic meanings. It says a lot about the fierce persecution of love between women through the centuries, as it is able to portrait the horrible ugliness of that condemn. Carmilla must be shown as maybe evil and hauntingly ambigouous just because that was for so long (somehow even now) exactly the view about eroticism, sex and passionate love, especially if involved two women. You can see the madness and the deepness of homophobia being attentive at how Carmilla is portrayed and at the smallest of the details. It's a movie charged with erotic tension and exquisite poetry at the same time. As a writer, I've made italian subs for it, also translating the Andrew Marvel's poetry which is central to understand the desperation and the beauty of human souls hungry for love, and life, faced with the cold reality of death having the last word.
