Thank you - this video is so helpful as I have been scared to list and sell expensive items. What are your thoughts on paying for "Signature Confirmation" for delivery as another protections when selling expensive items?
Yeah ebay even requires it for items over 750.00. Any time I sell expensive stuff a trick folks told me about that I love and have used for plenty of 500-1400 dollar sales. I turn on best offer and set the minimum offer for what I actually want to sell it for and set the list price something silly high so when I get a offer I can look over the other persons history and decide if I want to sell it to them or not. Have not had some one buy the crazy price yet. Example selling comic book for 750 I put list price as 900 and set offer for 750. Best of luck and good luck selling folks. Oh and for high value items I only allow ebay GSP for international sales no 3rd party mail forwarding services.
I pay for the $10 signature required feature. We'll worth the money on high dollar items. It forces the Post Office to keep track of the package. The item never gets lost or stolen. I will say that I get the occassional"item never arrived" and I say I sent it signature required , check with your post office....and that ends all conversations favorably.
So good to know that eBay requires it for over $750 items. I put Best Offer for most, but I nvr put the minimum offer bc I wasn’t sure that I would be able to see the person trying to buy, so thx for the info.
I want to thank you for all you do to educate new and old sellers. I'm relatively new and had I not watched your video on scams, I would have been an easy mark. Hey Scot: Another great video...Like you I've been selling on eBay for a very long time. Every package that I ship out gets the very expensive item treatment, I don't care if the item sold for $10 or $1500 every customer gets the same treatment. Super-fast shipping, post shipping email and a packing slip with a handwritten thank you note. I will then track the package and once the tracking shows that it was deliver, I send out another email to tell the buyer that according to the tracking number the item has been delivered, at that point I will leave positive feedback for the buyer. I sell item of all kinds, across the board, a lot of fragile items need to be well packaged, some even double boxed, I want all my packages to get the buyer without breaking...and so far so good...no broken items to speak of. Main point: You have done all the work, finding the item, listing it and selling it, now take your time to pack each item to be sure that the buyers are happy once they open the package....Presentation is very important if you want positive a feedback and repeat customer. ChaChing love that sound.
Great information!! I have shipped eggshell porcelain all over the world and never had a piece show up broken. The key has always been double boxing so don't scrimp on shipping just to save yourself and/or the customer a few $$$ on shipping. This is especially important for those of us in Canada because if you read the small print, Canada post will allow you to buy insurance but does NOT cover anything "breakable" actually getting broken.
Oh wow! I did not know that about Canada post. I suppose they cover a shirt getting torn apart by their machines and stuff...but not a Christmas ornament that gets broken. Terrific info for me. Thank you.

Hi, Thanks for your video. I fully appreciate the phrase you send your big buys. I have had 2 try and return items broken and when they are asked to send the item back at my expense they have stopped returning the item. I will also take your advice on packing really well and contacting eBay if I get another sketchy return. Thanks again I really enjoy your videos!
Great timing! I'm a new seller with quite a few new in sealed box electronics. Most of these items have been discontinued, and demand is high. All of the items my husband bought, i have Amazon receipts. I have 5 sales, my first was $150 , went to authentication. I just sold a router home system, $100. I really want to list these higher ticket items but also feel like I should lay low. Thoughts? Selling anything and everything has been paying the bills since my husband passed. I can't mess this up.Thanks! Love your content, btw!
During this past Summer Olympics, I found an authentic 1992 USA Basketball Jersey in one of my drawers. Those jerseys were made by Champion, which the manufacturing plant was located in my hometown. My brother worked at the warehouse and grabbed me one. I figured, no time better than now. Listed it as an auction and it sold for over $1200. I was shook!
Which party is responsible for filing for damage or loss claims on insured items? Years ago it was the buyer, which made it easy because they would simply talk to their local postmaster presenting the claim in person, including any damaged packages or items. Then responsibility was shifted to the seller, making things more difficult because we no longer have the item in our possession to photograph or handle at all unless it's returned (which would only further complicate the case, due to all the handling back and forth). Responsibility for filing can also affect decision-making with regard to who pays for the insurance. Insurance has always been an extremely complicated and confusing subject for me. I also heard something about "eBay insurance policy" vs. "USPS" insurance?
I agree that the insurance is overly complicated. I've always done it myself if I can. The issue with the seller trying to file the claim is that you need the buyer to supply you with the needed photos and hang onto the damaged item. It just comes up so rarely that I just don't worry about it a great deal. I've actually only had to file a shipping claim once and it was paid back to me without any issue. I just always assume that I'll have to do it. If I happen to get a super helpful customer, all the better. I buy the insurance through eBay since I'm working with them anyway.
Thank you for another informative video. I always take pride in my packaging and assemble in a manner I would like to receive it. For me, a $50 (even if it’s just a stuffed animal) item never goes into a poly mailer. I shipped a $150 glass dog to WA and my feedback reflected how well it was packaged. I photo the steps of packaging but will probably video in the future just to cover myself. Thanks again for the info!
Great teaching and video! Thank you. I have no faith in USPS insurance but I do purchase insurance for USPS packages I mail via Pirate Ship. Do you also purchase Signature Guarantee for delivery?
Hi Scott! Is there an option to get insurance and signature required on ebay? Do you see that when you buy the label? How does it work? Thanks so much!
Yes, when you purchase your label, those options are at the bottom of the page. All you do is select that you want them, and eBay charges you with the charge for the label.
Ebay hasn't held my funds for any amount in a long, long time. Even when we sold the $2100 Helen Yarmak jacket, they released it. I think it varies from account to account. But I wouldn't have blamed them if they did.
It's not a certain dollar amount. I wouldn't pay for insurance for a $100 pair of jeans. But I might insure a $100 ornament. So the item matters a lot. That said, it wouldn't matter what it was if I was shipping a $500 item.

Some good tips in this video but my experience selling expensive items has not been good. I'm a relatively new seller but have been on Ebay for 26 years with thousands of feedbacks and all 100%. I've recently had 2 scam attempts on the same item and am leary of listing it again. The first was a buyer with zero feedbacks and a new account who drove the price up. While waiting for payment, Ebay cancelled the buyer's account. The second time the winning buyer seemed legit but didn't make payment right away. Then the excuses started, problems with bank waiting to be resolved, etc. Then the request to relist with a buy it now so he could buy it that way (what?). Needless to say I still have the item along with many other expensive items to sell as I liquidate my personal collections. No more auction format for me. Buy it now with best offer is all that I'm willing to do.
UGH...that's just awful and I don't blame you for feeling that way. There's zero reason that eBay should require immediate payment for an auction if the seller wants that.
You could look into reputable consignment auction companies. Yeah you will lose money for fees but it will be insured in case of foul play from the buyer.
You don't really opt into the authentication program. eBay does it automatically for high-priced luxury items and some shoes. If it's going to be required, eBay will do it without you doing anything extra.
So I have best offers on. How do I check someones profile? If they are just a buyer they have all positive feedback. You can't even give negative feedback to a buyer. Only thing I can think of to check for is if they have zero buys and a are a fresh account.
Yeah, seeing the feedback that people have given them is almost a complete waste of energy. BUT, looking at the feedback that they leave other sellers is invaluable. If I see that they leave tons of negative, mention having to ret a bunch of returns, or just come across as truly hard to work with, I avoid them.

I had this happen yesterday and cancelled the item because they created there account that day and the offer had one eBay name. After I accepted the offer they had already changed there account I'd and they had 0 feedback. Curious on your thoughts
I'm extremely careful of accepting offers from zero feedback accounts that were created that day. That said, a buyer can't transfer the account from one account to another. That sounds off to me. But I'm seriously careful of offers from brand new accounts.

Which i thought i already did it but still the red warning sign still there. How i would know if thats the problem that i have not sold any items?
You need to get the banking situating resolved, or eBay may not be showing your items. Check your messages on ebay to see what the issue is. It may need you to verify some micro deposits to confirm the bank account. And, it takes time and some listings in order for you to start having sales. Unless you listed something that had a really high demand, you won't seek much of anything with just a few listings. 😀
Great video, would you consider posting a video that you filmed of you packaging an item, like a video you would send a customer to show it was packaged well. I’m not sure how to film it without it feeling awkward 😂
I could show that, but it's a really simple idea. Remember, chances are no one will ever see it. It's not something you post. You just save it on your computer until the return period has expired. So, I just set my phone up on a cheap tripod and keep the box centered in the frame. No editing. Nothing fancy. Just make it clear what went into the box when it was sealed and had the label attached.
Hello Scott, most my items that I'll be selling are high priced items, and I'll be video recoding everything just incase, HOWEVER if the buyer is a scammer or a potential scammer,, wouldn't be smart not to mention it to them in advance it's already insured, so they won't take advantage of the situation and report that it was lost, stolen, damaged or whatever, and they'll say it's insured anyways, so NO harm is done to the seller?!
Good question. I'd say that they don't care about whether or not you have insurance. They know that if the scam works, eBay will make sure they get their money. The goal is to convince them you're too prepared and professional to mess with. Let them move on to an easier target.
Makes perfect sense. Another YT eBayer said eBay could care less if u tell them u recorded a scammer’s item bc u could have opened the box + repackaged it afterward. And so the buyer gets the refund. Like ChaChingKing alludes to… It’s like having a high tech club on ur car (like I do when in certain areas :) so that the thief moves on to what feels like an easier, less intimidating target.
@@valeriesantos8178 Thanks, that's insightful... However, if the sellers get constantly screwed by eBay and the buyers alike on the high priced items, they'd quit eventually. I hope eBay would backup the sellers when they do what they can to make an honest sale.
I use the insurance through eBay. I haven't had to use the insurance, so I can't really comment on whether or not it will pay if need be. That said, I don't insure anything that I can afford to lose. Insurance is set up to make them money.
@TheChaChingKing Ah, I see. I was wondering because I have not sold anything on eBay yet. When I do, it'll be more expensive things like collectibles, so I'll probably want to insure certain items just to be sure. Thanks for the response 👍 😀
If you show it being put in the box, taped up and the label being applied, it's something. Keep in mind, even that isn't perfect. But, in my opinion, I'd rather have that with an expensive item that to have nothing it the buyer claims I didn't ship them the right item.
I sell the vast majority of my expensive items on eBay. The beauty of having a reselling business is that you can build it to suit you. If I didn't live so rural, I'd probably sell a lot more locally.
Hi can I get some advice. I sent Oakley sunglasses when they arrived he sent me a picture showing me a teddy bear. I've got 100 percent good feedback wot do I do
I would let them know that you shipped Oakley sunglasses. The weight on your shipping label and the package size also reflect that. Also, point out that you did not have any teddy bears for sale. You might ask them to check and make sure that they are contacting the right seller. Give them an out Further, I would reach out to eBay on Facebook and let them know what is going on. Your package size and weight won't match what they are saying.
Yes. My first contact with eBay these days is on Facebook. I think they are funneling the business stuff through their regular Ebay Facebook page. But I've had great responses through them.
Taking a video of boxing it is useless. You could easily have just reboxed it before shipping off camera. Which is why it's useless. Better off recording someone at the post office do it. Or asking them to note it what is in the package. If they even do that.
When the buyer sends me pictures of the item's box, it would look the same. And, for me, I'd rather have this than nothing. Of course, don't do it if you believe it will be a waste of your time.
Thank you - this video is so helpful as I have been scared to list and sell expensive items. What are your thoughts on paying for "Signature Confirmation" for delivery as another protections when selling expensive items?

@@TheChaChingKing Thanks for your answer. It makes sense I guess.
Which insurance do you use or would say is the best?
I use the insurance through eBay. I haven't had to use the insurance, so I can't really comment on whether or not it will pay if need be. That said, I don't insure anything that I can afford to lose. Insurance is set up to make them money.
@TheChaChingKing Ah, I see. I was wondering because I have not sold anything on eBay yet. When I do, it'll be more expensive things like collectibles, so I'll probably want to insure certain items just to be sure. Thanks for the response 👍 😀
How does recording the pack/shio orove what was actually put in the box!/?
If you show it being put in the box, taped up and the label being applied, it's something. Keep in mind, even that isn't perfect. But, in my opinion, I'd rather have that with an expensive item that to have nothing it the buyer claims I didn't ship them the right item.
I never sell expensive items on ebay. I only sell them locally.
@@TheChaChingKing Okay thanks
Ebay for business on Facebook?
