    Dude, my box of series 2 had one Thomas :( but I had three Walkers and 3 David Justices

    I'm pretty sure these cards didn't have a suggested retail. I remember buying them for 2 bucks a pack and then the card shop I used to go to raised them to 3 bucks. I just opened a box last week and got 4 Thomas cards. I was pretty stoked.

    I’ll never forget going to a card shop as a young kid and bought 1 pack of 1990 leaf. Really wanted the Frank Thomas, and there it was! So exciting.

    Dude...that Olerud/McDonald pack was *the* pack to get when this came out LOL. I remember the cards were every 6th number from each other, so pack sequences were always the same.

    Omw, 81 Donruss break equivalent...I don't know man, sadly I think I'd prefer the 81 Donruss cards. Your 78 Topps break ummm really takes away from this one. 78 commons are worth more than any 90 Leaf or 81, 86 Donruss. These Donruss products certainly seem 2nd rate at best. 90 Leaf set is what, 10 bucks...great videos and enthusiasm though! Oh yeah..lookin thru my partial 75 Topps baseball set, i forgot about card number 407. Herb Washington, a relief runner. Topps only ever produced relief runner card ever! Herb has No plate appearances or fielding stats at all. All he has ever done is pinch run! Hilarious....

    I remember buying these boxes (one of each series) at a warehouse in west Phoenix right after they were released. I got 2 of the Frank Thomas Cards, and I had them graded by PSA a couple years ago. I was happy when they both came back PSA 10!!!!

    Thanks for the video Jabs Family! It helped me verify I just got scammed by an Ebayer on my Series 1 box. Sosa and Griffeys definitely had a sequence with other players - I got a big fat goose egg for Sosa, Griffey and 25 other players around them. Keep on breakin'!!

    I bought full cases of both series I and II for about $275.00. (10 box cases) I was one of a couple guys who had them at a card show a few days later. They didn’t sell very well as I remember. I don’t remember how much i was charging, but likely 2 bucks?
    Flipped two cases a few months later as collectors and shop owners realized the set was the only NOT overproduced set that year.

    90 Leaf had more stars and less commons. It’s easy to find a PSA 10 of who ever you are looking for.

    In 89 UD started the premium card thing. In 90 leaf packs cost double what UD cost. I found 90 leaf to be an order of magnitude rarer than 89 UD was in the day. Great set.

  • @robste
    @robste 5 ปีที่แล้ว

    I remember a sports cards publication at the time referred to the Leaf packs as "nuclear sealed." They were a bear to open! But the set reminds me a lot of '84 Donruss; both sets boasting very clean, basic, classy designs. My recollection was that in '90 and '91 the Thomas and David Justice rookies were the "hot" cards, and the packs went for as high as $5 a pack back in the day.

    Love this set. I have two of the 90 Leaf Frank Thomas cards that I pulled as a kid. I remember doing chores to get the needed cash to ride my bike to the one store that had these packs in the town I grew up in to get a few packs. Always went after the Griffey Jr in series 1 and the Thomas in series 2. Fond memory from back in the day.

    Trammell, Raines, Baines...HOF dilution. Look at Pete Roses' prices compared to those guys. The market speaks much louder than some antiquated institution. The Baines pick is a joke, it sets a very low precedent for future pics. I'd take Murphy or Parker (without the coke habit) over Baines if I was a GM putting a team together.

    I went to a card shop I think it was about 1991. They had broke down a box of series 2 1990 Leaf and put them in envelopes in a box, and you could buy envelopes for a dollar apiece. I bought like 3 envelopes and I got a Frank Thomas rookie out of it. The guy at the card shop was like um, I shouldn't let you take that card. I'm like UUUUHHH I don't think so dude. The card which is absolutely mint and centered great both back and front. I'm gonna have to send it in soon and get it graded. They were totally P.O.'d about me getting that card for a dollar, but they put in there. You lays down your money and you takes your chances. Glad I didn't have to get ugly with them about it.

    Frank Thomas is my favorite player and PC. This was so awesome to watch Series 2 being ripped. At this time unfortunately I was wasting all my money buying 89-90 Hoops and 90-91 Skybox NBA cards. I missed my chance to get all his rookie cards early on. But Im working on getting them all in PSA 10 now.

    90 leaf was my favorite set, followed by 84 donruss, 91sc, and of course the 84 fleer up set. Anyway, I remember buying these packs in mid 1991, and packs were about 5-7 bucks each ,and series 2 a little more than that. I could never find anything good in series 2. Never pulled Frank Thomas. Series 1 was a little better at finding good cards at the time if I recall. I ended up putting a nice complete set together back in the day.

    I remember back when this set came out. I had been collecting for a few years at this point and the vendors were marketing it as a high end pack. I couldn't buy them. The vendor that me and my brother always used, opened up a new shop in late '90 or early '91 (I can't remember), and invited his customers to the Grand Opening. He handed out tickets to those he invited, and we could bring family but they didn't get a ticket. When we walked into his new store, in exchange for our ticket, he gave us 1 pack from this set. My pack contained a Robin Ventura and Joey (Albert) Belle. The owner went absolutely nuts over the pack and kept hounding me for the entire duration that we were there trying to get me to sell those 2 cards to him. He was offering me several packs from this set, money or even a Griffey card of my choice (he knew I was a huge Griffey fan), whatever I decided. In the end, I kept the cards. Sadly, I wish I could take that back because those cards are worth nothing now other than a memory, but then again, most of the cards from that era are just nothing but a memory. On top of all of this, I want to point out that you only pulled one Ventura card toward the end (in Autistic Family Collectibles' stack) and no Albert Belle (At least I didn't see one so I could be wrong). I would have died opening any of those packs with the Griffey in them as that was his most valuable card in 1990 and I didn't own it at the time.
