Fun fact. What did Thomas Margolf do before he made NerdSEQ? Among other things, he designed the LSDj-MC2, an LSDj MIDI interface. But, what did Tim Lamb do before he made the Dirtywave M8? Why, he made the Arduinoboy, an LSDj MIDI interface. I'm telling you, making MIDI interfaces is a gateway drug to making trackers.
NerdSeq is my all time favourite eurorack sequencer - I've tried Five12 Vector, WMD Metron and others, and although I am sure I am not using it to its full potential yet, this thing gets me results so fast it's incredible and super fun to use. Very entertaining "presentation" mate. Cheers.
"...weirdo machine that I explore randomness with" 😆 That's a great description for a modular system. I have been thinking about the NERDSEQ again after years... thanks for the update
this is incredibly exciting!! love that you're breaking down patching so explicitly. love that you just got the nerdseq. (so did I!!) & I'm loving the music you're making with it.
@@StephenMcLeod I have actually yet to rack that sweet machine. it's a bit more complex than the polyend tracker. I suppose I'd do best to quit trying to wrap my head around it & just start plunking around in there...
@@StephenMcLeod i’d just be happy to see your work flow, how you mix live and sequenced things, maybe how you use the sample tracks, and how you would use random possibilities with it. But most importantly, how you will have fun with it :)
Really impressive, Stephen. I wish I had sufficient funding to afford a set-up even vaguely close to yours. I would just love it. Well done you and I wish you every success with your music. Regards, Tim
Absolutely lovely stuff. I'm getting into the Nerdseq myself but haven't quite yet found the time to get it properly up and running. The hope is that it will work alongside me using the Polyend Tracker as a kind of "master" brain, with the Nerdseq itself then running as a kind of "limbic system" inside the overall organism (which I do appreciate is a very pretentious way of putting it). I'm rocking the 1010Music Bitbox and Squarp Rample instead of the Squid Salmple, and my voices tend to come from my 2 Disting EXs, but obviously you're showing off a great setup here. Keep up the good work boss.
Some really cool sounds...I'd like one of those MIDI clocks you've got on your TV....meant to say I liked the video the other day with the glitchy visuals too!
Woah! Sometimes I’ll think about getting a M8 but dang feels like I’d love a NerdSeq to compose whole sections of things. Right now I can pull off evolving jams but harder transitions of parts are a bit tricky depending how I created it all. Perhaps something to think about exploring with a bit of extra space of another row. Love the drum samples and processing of them and this jam is so good! Would you say a Nerdseq would be good in a smaller 7u system?
Hey thanks! Sorry for the delayed reply. Yeah, I think NerdSEQ would be great for lots of systems - but it will largely depend on what other modules you have and what you want to achieve!
@@StephenMcLeod Absolutely! That makes sense for sure. I feel like it would be interesting for sure to mess around with because of the fairly flexible way compositions happen. From what I’ve watched there’s quite a lot of opportunities to play around with pieces and build them up over time. Nice if you wanted to really plan out something long with high degree of control. It’s funny as the more I get into modular the more jello like I feel like it all is. Lots of opportunities to inject a lot of expressiveness, chaos or variation to almost anything if you have a couple key modules.
I haven't used a CIOKS personally - but I have something similar as a kind of desktop psu for switching between synths. The problem is finding one with enough output - most guitar ones are low, and not suitable for synthy stuff.
Nice! I wondered if you used the nerdseq. When will there be in depth tutorials. With all the new updates and expanders this thing needs a proper In depth tutorials. I’m willing to pay too!
See, I guessed that is what it meant, but had no idea how that was pronounced either. One of those things you only ever see written down but never hear in person!! Thanks :D
The NerdSeq is the best Tracker and Sequencer I can imagine. Would the Polyend Tracker have the same workflow using patterns etc. It would be f*cking awesome like the NerdSeq!
I left those robbing bastids a while back over a dispute funnily enough. Reported them to the Ombudsman and won. Oh wait, that was British Gas. Different cheek same arse.
I don't think i can get onboard with trackers myself .. but of course looks incredibly powerful and a different workflow, just don't think i could ever get with it.
There's something about it that just suits the way I think about songwriting etc. I'm not even sure why. I think I like the granular control. It's hard to visualise songs when you just have the 16 steps or pads maybe.

Top trivia here.
FiresARTer & Trash80 … but don’t forget Low-Gain ;)
NerdSeq is hands down the best modular based sequencer out there
It really is excellent. High praise from none other than Lowgain as well!

Hey thanks a lot! The MultiClock is spendy but honestly one of the best purchases I've made. Wish I had done it years back.
A lot going on there!
lots of good stuff!!
Perfect timing, just got mine! :-)
Oh nice!! Hope you love it.
Have you had a Oxi One? It has more to offer for modular sequencing and modulation. It’s the best in my opinion.
Yeah, I've done a video on it recently. For modular I would go with NerdSEQ.
I can't wait until he finally finishes the Portable version.
For those purposes I think the M8 has probably cornered the use case...
@@StephenMcLeod its just to small for my long ass fingers. I know his was more along the size of an SP404 and had a few knobs as well.

did you ever resolve the issue of powering your synths using a power supply that reduces the clutter of all the cables? Does the CIOKS work?

Oh God, I'm terrible at in depth tutorials, but I might do some introductory bits and pieces. It's so deep I'm not sure I'd do it justice.
Any news regarding the portable version. Or is it discontinued?
I'm not sure, but I don't think it was shown at SuperBooth - so it's unlikely to appear any time soon!
