In this episode of Steve Tech, Steve Morris breaks down all the bits and pieces you need to understand about valves and how retainers, keepers and locks play a vital role.
Hey Steve, love your knowledge of all things automotive. Working on deleting my DoD on my 2009 Pontiac G8GT. I purchased dual springs from a reputable company in Texas. They sent me 10 Degree Keepers and I can not get these keepers to work. My old 7-degree keepers work fine but I can't get the 10-degree to stay together. mY VALVE STEMS ARE 11/32. The retainers are titanium. The keepers fit fine on the valve stem outside the head but when I compress the spring they just will not stay together. Tried using assembly lube but no help. Any suggestions. Not sure why they sent me the 10 degrees but it was a kit. Thanks again for your videos.
If we aren't seeing much stretch on the titanium valves, how often would you change them just as part of maintenance? 60-70 passes in a high boost application?
I thought the LS standard locks were 15degrees? Sorry not trying to be that guy I’m running 10s on my set up I just want to have the correct information or if I learned it wrong before I need to get the correct information. Thanks for all the information you put out. God Bless.
I am still amazed, I learn something new every time I listen to Steve, he is the Einstein of engines!
