    Hickman's tenure on X-Men will go down as a perfect example of great comics storytelling and excellent social commentary

      I think his run was ruined by the terrible writing of the other books he wasn’t in control of.
      I really think his F4 run will be what’s considered his best work, until something in the future overtakes these two beloved runs.
      I really wish he’d go independent, and work a book with his own universe of characters. Though, he may just be better at writing new ideas for pre-existing characters.
      I still remember more hate for the Krakoa X-men, even from those who loved what Hickman was doing overall to change Charles’s optimism for humanity and mutants, getting past racism, as it was stale even in the 90’s.
      The X-Men Animated series, then brought a new generation of fans to the books, so it took awhile before they fully changed the idealism of Xavier, snd his students. I always wished they’d have let all of the OG characters get to there 30’s, and realize that Charles was a 60’s idealist, who was never going to get anywhere without he and Magneto, coming to a compromise and working together again. It’s pretty difficult when Magneto was written as a terrorist, for decades.
      Yet, in the world they were written, I’ve always said Magneto Was Right.

    This was an absolutely fantastic video, and a fitting end to your series on Hickman's X-Men. Bravo!

    Another certified banger my man, I was hotly anticipating this since the RoX video. Props to you for giving a very measured and level overview of the event that has so much "meta reading" behind it. I liked Inferno, a lot, but I think I was also too plugged into the news around Hickman's departure to take it at its value. I want to really believe the X office can pull off whatever grand plan he had, but I wanted him to write it himself, some of the office isn't on his level imo. It'll very interesting to see how DoX shakes out once we have some of it under our belts, and how we look back on Hickman's time in retrospect. I'm trying to stop speculating about why he left (cough cough substack) but I'm trying to be present in the line, it's wild to be involved in something like this in a linear fashion

    Inferno was a really good story and tons of fun but I am really sad that this is truly the end of Hickman X-Men run and we never ever got a chance to see Hickman vison reached a conclusive ending but that's just my opinion.

    Ah two days in a row with my favorite comic video essayists making Hickman videos.
    I kind of find it amazing how Hickman and his work on X-Men has kind of reflected in his overall plan for the title. Created a huge status quo change and when he saw that his idea has grown without him he stepped back and let what he started flourish. The man’s goal was to make the Mutants important to the Marvel universe again and he accomplished that. Great video Doug

    While the ending monologue of Inferno sounds kind of bleak and even bitter, I think the overall message of the book is very hopeful. This is exemplified in the character of Cypher. He doesn't just blindly trust his leaders, even the well-intentioned ones, and he doesn't become consumed by hatred or sorrow. And he comes out of Inferno better than anyone. If the next generation can learn to live in harmony with nature, technology, and those different from us, the way Cypher does with his found family of Krakoa, Warlock, and Bei, then there is hope for the future.

    I really like Inferno but I wouldn't call it a conclusion to Hickman's X-Men. I am pretty sure this is all still the first part of the intended story. I just hope we get to see the second and final parts in some form and that they are good. Great Video!

      @ForEveryKindofGeek  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Yeah, there's definitely some ambiguity around that...I know Hickman's headed back to creator-owned stuff for the moment but there's always the possibility that Marvel will have him come back to close out the Krakoan era in a few years.

    • @Neuroticmancer

      @@ForEveryKindofGeek I really do believe that’s inevitable. I think he needed to leave the line so this era can outgrow him and so that the other creators on the line can move out of his shadow. I think he’ll be back but it could be over 5 years away. But if he comes back, he won’t come back as head of x, but as just another writer in a team of equals

    Great video. I am still not sure how to feel about the Moira twist, but that's largely caused by where X Deaths of Wolverine took it, which I really dislike. I do love Immortal X-Men though.

    • @ForEveryKindofGeek
      @ForEveryKindofGeek  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I'm kinda of the same mind on that twist. Definitely a bitter pill to swallow but I'd love to see what a creator like Gillen can do to build on it (and it seems like he might be).

      I've thought about doing smaller breakdowns of the tie-ins for these, although the process can take so long I kinda just end up folding them into the broader "era-style" videos. Just think it's cleaner that way.

    • @ForEveryKindofGeek
      @ForEveryKindofGeek  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      True. I've really come around to loving Inferno for what it is too, Hickman makes a number of points in interviews that the big experiment in his time on X-Men was building the X-Office back up, so while I'll always want to see what he could've come up with I'm all in to see where the other creators will take the story.
