  • I think the last minute is missing. Sorry. My school friend's grandfather was the gentleman that looked after Julian and his sister as a small boy in Shropshire UK during the Second World War. He was in this episode. It was by chance that I found this out and got the VHS tape off the family as I am a Julian Bream fanatic. My guitar hero. RIP Julian Bream

    ジリアンブリー厶は私がラジオではじめてクラシックギターを聞いた思い出の人です。たしか日本公演のライブでした。私が14歳の時で驚きました。ラジオから流れる演奏が最高ありがとう

I saw him live when I was a kid in our local church who had the odd gig down there. It was one of he deepest couple of hours I've sat through musically.

Just tremendous and tremendously moving and personal - I didn’t know of the existence of this one - thank you. The sad night his death was announced I played again his celebratory DVD My Life in Music, made in 2006 - 120 mins with a number of full performances, personal history and own critical comments on many aspects of musical periods, style etc. + 75 mins of ‘bonus features’. Highly recommended as well as this delightful piece of old-style TV.

One of my favourite guitarists since I started playing over 50 years ago. Lovely to see the bond and warmth he and John Williams shared. Thank you very much for this. If I had been in the uk when this was on I would have seen it for sure.

Many thanks for posting, thoroughly enjoyed watching this. Great story about how you got the VHS too. It's interesting having seen Julian Bream: My Life in Music around 30 times, to see the photos, archive film and stories recounted in a different way. All the best! from London.

Replying to the lady from Shropshire, how kind of you to mention this,as the Farm was indelibly printed in our minds as such young children, the beautiful Horses that ploughed the fields, the deep snow. Amazing memories. Thank you .

It is my pleasure to bring this to your attention. Your brother has and will always be the exciting guitarist that has ever lived in my humble opinion. Julian looked so happy in this video and lovely to see. A real cheeky chappie!! As a fan it is wonderful to see some insights with the people you greatly admire. I live in Bishop's Castle (just down the road from the farm!) and went to school with Jack Hughes's granddaughter! I knew you both here in the war but I was so pleased to find out recently where! Then be told the family have the VHS recording of the evening! They were all very happy that I digitized it and I am over the moon that you have had chance to see it again also. Your brother is a huge inspiration to me, I do not play as much classical guitar as I should but I truly adore it. I play rock and blues mainly but Julian Bream is without question one of my biggest inspirations because of his virtuosic talent, drive, personality and commitment to music. My sincerest condolences. He lives on in the hearts of many. Stay safe and take every care...

God made a mistake making our lives so short..and fysical challenges creep up on you when getting older. You just can forget it trying to master a classical guitar at the time I fell in love with the instrument at age 50. Anyways...thx mr Bream for the music..rip

Lovely thank you. I loved his spontaneous characteristically witty, down-to-earth comment about giving him a lift etc. And his description of the weekly nail cutting ritual is hilarious 😅A great character and musician, he's an asset to music and an inspiration to guitarists, including myself.

    Paz y Bien

I would be so annoyed if someone pulled this on me. I'd be like: "I've got a concert to do here, and like many artists I struggle with some degree of performance anxiety. I've addressed it, and I've pared it down to mere explosive diarrhea before every show. I've pooped in more venues than 99% of the people on the planet. Couldn't you have given me a heads up? Maybe I could have avoided the pooping part."
    True story.

i've a vague recollection of this programme existing on tv when i was a child but, yikes, the format...i'd forgotten...it's a bit intrusive, isn't it? is it all really a surprise to the participant? makes you wonder if you could have a line like "in 1989 you were accosted in a public house by someone who said he'd disembowel you if he ever got a chance and now, here he is!". Maybe someone should have done a comedy sketch on this show and called it "you thought you had burnt your bridges, but..." Or else my mind has temporarily gone slightly warped. Anyway, some enjoyable bits here. Bream's "my life in music" dvd is truly great. "in 1941, at the age of eight, you won a schoolyard scrap that you should have lost, and now here's...." (sorry. stop now). did the presenter think he was st. peter? stop, stop, stop...
