I used to play this instrument, when I visit my friend at Nagyvázsony and we're going to the church on Sunday. On most sundays, the pastor plays himself, or just uses the harmonium downstairs when only one verse have to be sung.
It's a bit challenging to play some of the chorales because of the short-octave keyboard.

What a charming organ--thanks so much for demonstrating it. I wonder whether one might be able to hang a sort of stirrup from the bellows handle, so it wouldn't be necessary to sit in such an awkward position. Of course, nothing beats having a 'calcant'. A choir-boy or student was never far off back in the old days.
Funny stop of the sound when the air was out! But what a lovely little organ, its sound is so direct and well articulated.

We take for granted the work done by electric energy but when there's a power outage, we certainly feel it! And back in the day, no doubt the organist's page turner would have had an additional task on this thankfully small organ!

Thanks for this. When I was young, we had an old pump organ somewhat like this one in the church we went to. But it was never used. You could pump it with foot pedals or by someone standing on the side pumping an arm. It had two key boards and a set of foot pedais,

2:00 The single rise wind reservoir is the reason that the wind pressure is so unsteady and temperamental when the organ is hand/foot pumped even though it rose to a much greater than normal height. This type of reservoir is only suitable when used with an electric centrifugal blower. I'm surprised a double rise replacement was not fitted back in the 19th century. The blowist must have really been on his game to keep the wind pressure steady.

@@bkarosi I think this open and relatively uncluttered gallery with the small organ would be a very nice place to play together with a string trio or some recorders or trombones or even a harpsichord.
Saw _Organ Media Foundation's_ recent video on two Tannenberg organs at a Moravian church. The smaller instrument was pumped by the organist by foot (though not as awkwardly as this one). The more I play (in addition to seeing videos such as this and the previously mentioned videos), the more I'm convinced that essentially eliminating the building and use of small instruments like this one is a great disservice to church music.

What is a short octave?
The lowest octave on the keyboard is missing C#, D#, F# and G# but the keys look like EFF#G. E plays low C, F# plays D and G# plays E. So the compass starts with CDEFGA and then it is chromatic
You should definitly visit St Jacques church and it's irgan in Liege Belgium
1820 makes it a 19th century organ not 18th century. Perhaps you meant 18th-century style organ?
It does make one wonder how they kept large medieval organs with 32' stop supplied with air
The Cahman organ in Sweden has four pumps which would recuire two people to stand with one foot on each and pump.
When its an organ from 1820, isnt it a 19th century organ?😅 Year 1-99 is the first century. Or is it different in english, my native language is german.
But it doesnt really matter, thats a great organ!

I take it many European organist aren’t terribly concerned with tuning.
I think the detuning gives the organ character and makes it sound older than it is.😁
A bit detuned, but the instrument has a historical temperament (semitones are not equal - for short octave instruments, keys with more than a few sharps/flats were rarely used, so a Kimberger III or similar tuning scheme may give a special unique sound when a piece in the proper key is performed).
@@thpeti I’ve been tuning pipe organs for over twenty years (professionally, full time), occasionally in unequal temperaments. I can tell the difference between an unequal temperament and not having been thoroughly tuned in quite some time.
