Disappearing ink and thermo-chromatics have been around forever, so no one really stole from anyone. These ideas just float around until someone picks it up. Just because two people demo the same idea doesn't necessarily mean they know each other or stole material from each other. It's like singing Happy Birthday in different keys and in different arrangements. It's always out there, it's just demonstrated differently by different people.
@TheGamingBeast2000 you can find it at most grocery stores. You'll have to go to the customer service desk and ask for it. Since you have to be 18 to buy it they keep it behind the counter.
One amazing trick that I would like to see/do is combining this trick with the water and rubbing alcohol. Say you do the say deal, but pre soak your own lab coat in water and rubbing alcohol, then accidentally spill some of the ink on yourself, then again, accidentally catch your lab coat on fire. Someone sprays you down with the fire extinguisher, and both problems are solved.
The freezer tip is awesome. I use those pens on a daily basis and one time I left my notebook inside my car on a sunny day... and guess what? Everything was gone! I'm going to put it on the freezer to see if it comes back. Great work!
Come on people! Steve is a great teacher and a funny guy! Stop with all these comments on his videos about, how "he's trying to sell us things" or he's mean to old people". He is hilarious and amazingly enough teaching us things! So just relax an enjoy the fun.
Yes, the CO2 is needed to produce carbonic acid to neutralize the base mixed in with the indicator in the "ink". Also using a non-CO2 extinguisher usually means using a dry chemical one which would not make the ink disappear and would cause a huge mess that is incredibly difficult to clean up [unfortunately I know the latter from prior experience].
I went and bought those pens today and tried that. My family was SO impressed when I wrote a secret message!!!! Thank you so much for showing me that!!!! :)
Hmmm... If all you need to do with the ink is heat it up and cool it down I can see this becoming a really cool Halloween trick! If you were handing out candy, you could sit on your porch with an old-fashioned candle sitting next to you and a cauldron full of liquid nitrogen. Then, as kids are walking up, you simply heat the paper on the candle, and when they get there you dip the message in the "Cauldron of Tortured Souls" (Liquid Nitrogen) and have a secret message from the recently departed!
wow Steve,i have to say that your science experiments are beyond awesome. I can"t imagine how much fun you have on your show......keep making videos i will be watching! :D
Think... your in school and you notice your friend has a friction pen. (THERE NEEDS TO BE A CANDLE OR SOMETHING BURNING IN THE CLASSROOM) you say "Can I read your essay?" they say, "Sure." SO........ YOU TAKE THAT PAPER, STAND UP AND YOU GUN IT OVER TO THAT CANDLE, you know what happens here, THEN YOU BOOK IT BACK TO YOUR SEAT AND HAND THEM THE PAPER AS SOON AS THE TEACHER WALKS IN AND SAYS "TIMES UP!" YOUR FRIEND GOES TO TURN IN THEIR PAPER AND... GET TROLLED ON NOOB!!! lol (0 CHARACTERS LEFT)
Story time! They sell this stuff at the local fair right. My friend bought some and poured it on our other friend, he got punched multiple times in the face. And that is my stort, and it is completely 100% true.
Sadly my first chemistry teacher is a real jerk. He doesn't teach us anything useful and leaves us to get bad grades. Whenever he does teach us something he is very boring almost on purpose and he even puts half the class to sleep. Sometimes I think he gets joy from letting us fail.
I live in Denver, Colorado too! One question: how are you so cool, awesome, COOL!, and AWESOME, HOW! You changed my life I now always get A+ in science tests! I also made an essay in school about you as my hero! YOU ARE THE BEST!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! and from that essay I won that contest and got free Colorado Rockies tickets, GO ROCKIES! :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D
You wouldn't really want to spray someone with a Dry Chemical fire extinguisher, it would leave a layer of dust on the person. Wouldn't have the same effect you are looking for.
Hey today my Holub M.S what showing Experiment ! every i know in there is you! you help me alot and understand and that make me understand when they give me answer ! you TOTALLY AMAZING!
If you people would read the description, you would know that Steve and his Chem teacher are great friends and can play around like that. I know for a fact that you people play with your friends just like that......
@zeldalink1 Doug and Steve constantly play jokes on each other! How cool is it that he not only keeps in touch with his high school teacher, but that they are great friends?!
I'm sorry you feel that way. I'm guessing you didn't pick up on the fun that Doug and Steve were having together. They are really good friends and will continue to do these experiments together for many years to come.
Instead of a steadycam you should just build a Camera Stabilizer Rig by thefrugalfilmmaker. It's cheap and it's been said to be easier to learn and use.
Hey Spangler Effect! I am going to do this for my Chemestry class because we're into bases and acids but I have one question, what kind of extinguisher did you use? Does it matter which one? and ok there are more than one question, sorry!, Why does the CO2 neutralize the NaOH? Please answer me, and thank you for your amazing way to teach us science!
Hey Steve I have a question now the fact that when dry ice comes in contact with (i think anyway) water it creates carbon dioxide does it not?? well what if you could use that in a controlled stream would it be able to make the ink disappear?
You are so mean to your assistant and this time to this old man!
8:17 OMG, i can't stop laughing
Am I the only one that died of laughter when he sprayed him with the fire extinguisher?
This new channel is great. I am so grateful that Vsauce introduced me to your videos. Very entertaining and informational.
Indeed!

Hey Steve! I don't care how Long your videos are I will always enjoy them no matter what! Your videos are awesome!!
Steve and Doug always give each other a hard time! It's cool to see Steve get along so well with his high school chemistry teacher!

You should be able to find them at any office supply store.

They actually give a lot of presentations together, and this is just a bit they do!
lol Steve was waiting 20 years to be able to blast his teacher with a fire extinguisher >:D
@AznDeafChild you should be able to get them from Staples. If you can't find them in a store in Canada, you could always order them online!
@4:53 Flinn Scientific that's where my school gets all of our chemistry supplies
At 4:01 I think Steve is trying to hold back his excitement for how cool it is.
so mean :P
Well said!
Can't...stop...watching. your videos are so great. btw im going to heritage high school right now.
Those pens are awesome. I'm excited to see more videos! Thanks for making science fun again Steve.

Denver, Colorado actually:)
You make me love science again thanks
2:04 Well were I go to school we have this thing called a smart board in every classroom so... yeah
Think... your in school and you notice your friend has a friction pen. (THERE NEEDS TO BE A CANDLE OR SOMETHING BURNING IN THE CLASSROOM) you say "Can I read your essay?" they say, "Sure." SO........ Loved to see you working with your old chemistry teacher!!!!! :) :) ;)
I am glad he did not have a faint heart!! ;)

@DragonFighter1133 you shouldn't be able to read it at that point. The message is hidden until you heat it up!

Steve was so controlling when he was experimenting with his teacher. Jeez
love the channel.
@firekirby123 that's a great idea! We might have to try that one.
If you people would read the description, you would know that Steve and his Chem teacher are great friends and can play around like that. I know for a fact that you people play with your friends just like that......
@DragonMBlood I'll make sure to fix that!
Yay, love these Steve, keep it up :D

is that the same Doug Hodous that came to my school (euclid middle school) last year and gave me an awesome science demo!
@supersanchez1991 we are too!
My paper got caught on fire . . . .
@AznDeafChild you found the right ones! Post a video response with your cool secret message.
I love your videos
Famous Quotes "Now I know why you had that covered up Steve Spangler!"
Steve Its Too Late I Already Subscribed You:) YOU MAKE SCIENCE FUN!!
OF COURSE I WOULD!!!!!!!!
He's just being over sensitive, he will continue to watch your show, he cannot say no. ;)

I do not use white boards. I use SmartBoards. Lol white boards are prehistoric.
8:41
lol
nice video!! :)
@TheSpanglerEffect Thanks will do next time :)
He didn't. It's a bit they play!
I love this episode :)
Wicked!
i wish either of them was my chemistry teacher
Steve Spangler and Todd Wilcox as lab assistants! Why didn't I take AP Chem instead of AP bio my senior year??
@navets that's awesome! We would love to see what secret message you come up with... just post a video response on this page.
this kept on stopping like every 5 sec
So mean to the old man
LOL XD awsome
