20-odd years of riding experience. Last year, for the first time ever, I forgot to remove my disc lock before riding off. Bike went over, I took a tumble...felt like a true idiotic newbie. This was on a busy shopping street, in front of pedestrians 😂 Happens to the best of us!
Well, you're certainly never going to forget to unlock it again, so there's that. Glad to hear things didn't go too badly and that you're on the road to recovery.
I'd have been tempted to call this video - Red & Berried 😐
Speedy recovery Spicemeister 👊
I pulled away on my triumph scrambler 1200 with my D-lock on 3 weeks ago, no damage to me but warped a brake disc. Triumph want £930 to repair, or Maidstone straight line will straighten it for £50. I’ve stopped using steering lock as the scum can beak them in seconds and virtually write your bike off. Good luck bro 💪
just be careful with that as your insurance could be considered void as most require you to use it when not on the bike. so if stolen best to say you used it when the bike was parked they will use any excuse to not pay out
I also never use the steering lock. It's completely pointless. Takes 5 seconds to break.
I actually recovered my stolen bike (they cut the disk lock and d lock) and fortunately because I didn't use the steering lock, I didn't need to repair the lock, handlebars etc.
The bike insurance industry needs to change, their terms should require the factory fitted steering lock OR another locking device, such as a disc lock instead, it would benefit both riders and the industry as less bikes would be written off. Manufacturers also have a role to play, they should be designing steering locks that can't be broken and if they do break, don't damage the frame and write the bike off.
The state of our hospitals are dreadful. I keep telling my elderly MiL, you're leg better be hanging off or you suck it up and we go to the GP/Pharmacy. I'm not sitting for 6+ hours because your leg hurts a bit.
Reminds me of an "adventure" I once had involving a BMX Handle bar.
I got the wheel stuck at 90° to where I was riding and flipped over the bars, which got caught on my shorts and came with me, just at the right speed for me to land on them. The handle bar end, there was no bar end, so bare ass steel tube goes right to the leg hinge. I had a black "meat" for about 2 weeks. Also nearly got sepsis as I didn't realise I had fractured my pelvic and had a 2 inch gash on my leg hinge, which didn't get cleaned because A. there was no blood and B. Fuck me it hurt, so I couldn't really touch the area.
Yep. I got turned away from A&E with a badly broken collarbone in five pieces. Turns out that the NHS killed themselves with their lockdown lunacy. They didn’t need governmental help. 😢
It's a horrible feeling ! I had a cup holder lock my steering when it slid down on the bars as I was making a turn and when going to turn back it was locked ! Slammed the ground in the middle of an intersection and to be honest I was more embarrassed than the people running over to help me.... I feel your pain! Get well soon....
I sense the emotion in your voice man... I'm sure you'll be back in top form soon enough.
I left work once turning right out of the carpark same as I had thousands of times - slipped the rear end out on some fuel in the road and my GSXS1000 fell on my right leg. Adrenaline got me home and the next morning I got up and fell straight to the floor. I was off work for a month barely walking even with crutches.
Rest up, stay safe 👍🏻
I've nearly done the same with a disc lock 30 years ago when I was teaching in London, no damage done apart from to my pride, as far as A&E goes sadly QA is like a war zone these days, I properly dread any trip down there.
Ah good ol 111 - with their Capita systems. I had a punctured lung from a bike crash in 08, and called 111 THIS YEAR for something, and because of this lung puncture all those years ago; they told me to go to A&E! All I could do was apologise to every member of staff at rhe hospital, who all had no idea why 111 sent me to them lol
don't worry man i've done that shit but with a disc lock instead
My mate has done the disc lock thing 3 times 😂
Twice new front disc was required
I did the disk lock thing while 200miles from home! had to ride with a very bent clutch lever and gear lever
I've done the disc lock thing too! Embarrassing!
same ha!
This is why disc locks now have these in your face bright yellow cables that you attach to your handlebar that scream at you "TAKE ME OFF".
Unfortunate downside and upside of being on two wheels is a lack of another two wheels.
I smashed my leg between another car and my gear shifter as a car decided to suddenly stop on a slip-like road and as i turned around to check my shoulder I'm in the back of him. (entirely my fault but the road was completely clear so a little frustrating) My leg was alot worse than the photo you showed, my whole leg knee down was purple but I still have the hematoma and that was last November! It's no longer painful but I decided at the time "i'll be fine", continued to work, still continued to ride but it was so painful to put my foot down and change gear, luckily I work a 80% office job with some walking around. one week after I woke up and could barely stand, went to a (barely)walk in center, as I genuinely thought that I broken it. turns out it was just really bad muscle damage, the nurse said it was similar if someone shot me in the side of leg with a powerful ballbearing.
The lovely nurse did say while It was a bit stupid to not go to A&E straight away, actually through no choice of my own but the fact I wanted to keep working, I kept exercising it which would of helped it alot to have the blood flowing to it rather than be sedentary.
You'll make your own choices however for me, piece of mind of going was well worth it. Hopefully you'll make a speedy recovery!
Advice I got from a paramedic about 111 was to skip answering all their questions and just ask for a GP callback straight out the gate.
There's certain triggers symptoms that throw their script off the rails. To use their example, say you've got heartburn and you mention anything about pain near your chest. 111 send you to a&e because you've ended up on the heart attack question tree.
Tried that, she said no I have to ask the questions.
I never use my steering locks. If an attempted theft breaks it, your bike is a write-off. Didn't think of this being possible.
Honestly, I find it funny that not long ago you did a video about L plate riders and the state of them; and how you think the CBT should be more comprehensive (and therefore more expensive). Well, I'm 29, I've been riding on L's for years and I've never set off with the steering lock on 🤣- or had any accidents, or dropped any of my bikes. I'm glad you're more or less ok, and I hope you can get your leg sorted ASAP. Just realise there are some genuine riders on a CBT and not just delivery mopeds.
You nugget! 🤣😂🤣 Hope you recover soon and here's my simple Medical Advice, try to remember to disengage your steering lock before setting off next time!!! 🤣😂🤣 Glad you and bike not too bad.
happens mate. I vivdly remember front flipping over my bandits handlebars trying to show off. Going for a rolling burnout, loud as hell, all eyes on me and then *TCHUNK* off i go. absolutely mortified.
So, your bike gave you a bit of a... bollocking? 🤣 Glad you're ok, I've only had a couple of offs in my biking life but man.. they can hurt a LOT without being too serious, but internal bleeding is a real concern. Surprised they didn't admit you.
Ah I'm glad I'm not the only one.
I have Fell off to large capacity bikes in the past both at 0 miles an hour 🤦♂️.
Second time I cracked my ribs,
The pain of seeing my bike damaged and the Agony of cracked ribs.
Speedy recovery mate, least you didnt need an amputation
Glad you and the Derek didn't break anything
and hope you have a speedy recovery.
To be fair, there's a reason separate steering locks don't exist anymore. I don't understand why Suzuki still uses it on the DRZ, or at least have a sensor that prevents powering on the bike if the steering lock is engaged, just like side standards have nowadays.
Hope you feel better soon Spicy. Looks painful.
Damn. The last time I remember you crashing, you got REAL fucked up. Glad you're okay now.
Also, damn #2, been watching you for a looong ass time lol. RIP Betty, #neverforget.. (Wait, it was Betty, right?)
Yes Betty was the name and that was a very long time ago haha
I've done that , rd400 78 . I came out with nothing , but the bike needed new handlebar, clutch lever and possibly a shifter can't remember too well that was nearly 50 years ago . I do recall that it happened in a flash . Ride safe
Dropping a bike over the age of 30 really fucking hurts
I have to agree! 🤣
Wait till youre over 50!
Get well soon Spicy
Thank you, I really appreciate the support!
Glad your ok it will repair itself eventually I’m sure , wish you a speedy recovery x
Get well soon! As others have said, done that crap too, but with a disk lock, despite using the bike as a daily driver, and using a disk lock as second nature. One lapse of concentration is all it ever takes. Seriously though, I wish you a speedy recovery.
Hey Spicy so sorry Bud to here this, but Please Please dont show the Viewers the Damaged Twig and Giggleberries...Lol...Glad you are ok..
Ive been riding a Honda Vision full time for about about 10 years. Had a Gsx S125 for a few months and yesterday I had a front wheel slide in the wet at about 15mph, luckily I saved it by slamming my foot down to stabilize the bike. It was one of the most scary moments of my riding career! Ive had a couple of serious accidents in My time but this slide has caused me some serious anxiety! Hope you feel better soon :)
I wish you a speedy and full recovery Spicy!
I feel your pain! Take it easy.
Wish you a speedy recovery
Done this twice on push bikes with the handlebars both times going into left leg one time and right the other time in the same place as you, I have little dents in my legs like little moon craters 😂
The main issue with A&E, and I know because I work in one, the injured person is never there alone, they bring the family along like it’s a BBQ, it will always look busy.
Sorry to hear, hope you get yourself to a walk in centre soon
Oh man, so frustrating! I very much like the description “objects” 😂😭
dropped my bandit 650 , managed to save it like 5cm from the floor xD whole body was agony next day
Out of habit, I always turn the bars to the right before swinging a leg over as it moves the LH bar out of the way, and the RH bar easier to reach. I guess it also prevents riding off with the steering lock on.
Chris Watson Yamaha dealer in Aus had my brand new MT09 with less than 1000ks on it in to fit some parts and one of their workers tried to wheel it into the shop with the steering lock on and fell and dropped it.
Damaged a bunch of stuff on it including my new $1300 exhaust.
Wasn’t happy, never got an apology, just a we’ll fix it.
Same shop installed a tyre hugger tidy tail and left a bolt loose which destroyed my rear tyres side wall
Never going there again.
A video of bike (DRZ specific?) stuff from online would be funny.. ali express, amazon, ebay etc.. some stupid, some useful..
Get yourself to the RSH in Southampton. Minor injuries clinic. You have a major artery there. They will see you.
Wishing you a speedy recovery Spicy
Been there, done that, got the T shirt. I felt a right numpty! Fortunately I got away with less injury than you with just s few minor bruises. Have only done it once in 50 years of riding and that was 47 years ago. Hopefully I never do it again!
That brings be great comfort I might not ever do it again. I do not want it to be a every 10 years thing lol
always do a pre-"flight" check of all controls. (move the bars, press the brakes, work the clutch) saves you from having a bad day.
Glad you're all right man! :)
Welcome to the stupid shit club! We're all members 😂 Get yourself to an A&E at another hospital and get that checked as 111 said, ignore the person who turned you away they're only trying to reduce their own problems and not attend to yours. You're probably fine but be safe mate
I am planning to go to a drop in centre, I need some compression bandages anyways.
The relief when you had realised the meat and berries were ok, must have been enormous.
Heal up quickly spicy.
My Lexmoto RSS Scrambler has the same thing. I have only had it since May but I have put the ignition on and forgot the steering lock a few times. Luckily I haven't ridden off yet, but I expect I will at some point 🙂 Btw Spicey, I recommend reviewing the RSS Scrambler if you have the opportunity. I know you used to review a lot of Lexmotos in the past. Not sure if you still have an agreement with them.
...also, a funny story my uncle told me. Back in the sixties he bought a motorcycle and took it for a spin. On his trip out he pulled up at some lights and forgot that you have to put your foot down. He just tipped over with both his feet still on the pegs! The people in the cars behind him laughed hysterically apparently 😀
Will you do a vmoto stash review for range test only trust your range test
get well soon lad
My 125 also has a seperate steering lock (same key though), and my bigger bike is also has a single key for both. Sounds like the useful takeaway if expecting to start into a u-turn is to _always_ plan to take off had lock to the _right_; never to the left. That would have make sure that this issue can't occur - and that's going into my planning from now on. Thankfully, muscles will heal, doesn't sound like it's done much other than that; here's hoping it heals quickly and cleanly!
Hope you make a speedy recovery Spicy
I came off two weeks ago, landed right on my tailbone. As you say first day fine. It was the 5th day where it really started to hurt and the bruising was immense but i managed. Still can't sit on a bike 2 weeks later though just too uncomfortable
Ouch! That sounds like a pain in the as....ok not gonna do it. 😁 Hopefully it won't be too long now!
Not medical advice but my own experience. I had an accident where my entire left side of body waa a bruise it was litterally like that gordon ramsay reveal. I was freaking out that all my organs exploded or my pelvis was broken etc but I don't deal with the NHS unless I'm dragged in unconcious so i waited it out. Fortunately I'm as good as new. Our NHS is absolutely useless now. The american system is expensive and you need insurance and money but at least it's there. Ours really isn't unless you're dying right now and they simply wont get away with fobbing you off or making you wait.
You'd be better off seeing a witchdoctor nowadays than the NHS, F the uk government... 😢😢😢
I had that feature with my Eliminator, I feel your pain...and embarrassment 😂
These silly little tumbles are a nightmare.
I had one back in May, fractured my pelvis and still can't walk 🙄
Muppet!
Feel better soon mate.
Feel better soon, and try to get to the doctors.
My drz has the broken steering lock key 😂 never fixed it, I just use the disc lock
We all do stupid things once in a while, humans are fallible
As I say once in 9 odd years I am not mad at myself too much lol
😂😂😂😂😂, Sorry so very very Sorry but i had to laugh 😂😂😂😂.
If it's any consolation we have all done daft thing's including me on many occasions but it's called being human and we learn from our mistakes 😂😂.
Luckily we live to ride for many many more Happy days to come 😊😊.
Trust me I have been laughing a lot, it is just so silly in comparison to the damage!
Sorry to hear you had an “off”, but it’s good that “little Willie and the twins” are unscathed 🤪. I’m sure you and the ice pack ❄️ will be close friends for a week or so 😉. (50 years of riding on the road, so we won’t talk about the stupid 💩 I’ve done 😆.) Get well soon ! 👍
Scary that A&E isn’t really an option if you have an accident. Sounds an unfortunate injury but a doctor will put ur mind at rest with their advice on how to deal with it.
Wonder if their security cameras caught it?
The store's cameras likely did but the issue is "GDPR"; they can't give it to me.
Reminds me of the time I left the sidestand down on my dt100. Everything was fine until I tipped it into a corner.
I have done that on my old pulse 125 years ago but thankfuly it was just a slight wobble.
@@spicy110 yeah for me it picked up the back wheel and spat me off at about 30 mph. But I was 16 so I barely noticed.
you look like the bad guy from Commando!
Speedy recovery matey
It’s easily done , especially when you have been riding a different bike for several days, with things on yer mind. You are not dumb as you are the type of person who learns after a mistake . The dumb ones always end up repeating their mistakes . 👍
Compression if you can stand the pain make sure to check it’s not a morel level lesion it’s basically a hematoma that won’t go away because the is a pocket for all the blood to collect in
I have used cooling and a compression bandage.
@@spicy110 had a similar injury from enduro riding last December 3 operations later and the swelling on the outside of my thigh is still there 😐 was initially diagnosed as a hematoma but now is a morel lavallee lesion and not sure if it will need a operation yet again to drain
Yes, I think I will go to a drop-in centre just to get it checked.
@@spicy110 definitely if it feels jelly like or liquid between your skin and muscles get it checked and keep note of the size to see if it is hopefully reducing 🤞
Post the meat and 2 veg injuries on the hub 😂😂 hope u feel better soon though bud
Hey at least you didn't go to pull away on a 1000CC bike with a disc lock on the front wheel :'D (Someone told me this is very painful because they got there foot stuck under a bike that weighs 250KG), hope you heal quickly :'D ouch.
Oh yikes! Easily done I suppose. I've almost been caught out by forgetting my disc lock, luckily I've pulled away slowly and could handle it, no droppage.
You think 2 separate keys are bad, my old Triumph Scrambler had 3! Ignition, steering lock and fuel cap. So annoying.
Hope you heal up quick and can be back on the road soon!
I've done this but on my electric bicycle. I am still being affected 4 months later mine was the size of a slice of toast. And about an inch thick had to take time off work and yes I don't get sick pay either. Mine was compounded by the fact that I was on blood thinners so the bleeding was much worse. Very painfull and the muscle in the thigh gets spasms locks up and pain even three four months later. Good luck.
Well damn I do hope I fair better than that, wishing you a speedy recovery too!
Dam it's not up to a receptionist what's serious or not. Hope the hematoma is going down. Slightly worried, it is a torn capillary or vein causing the pooling
The ol' Drz steering lock trick.
When you hit the age your body takes more damage than the bike.
Dw dude, I am sure you'll be ok. Do some live streams!
Sorry to hear you have had a moment, these things always happen when things are going well, my moment happened hours after receiving my Blue Ribbon Advanced certificate, luckily for you it hopefully won’t take a year to get to walk again like me. Are you sure one of your Bollocks hasn’t relocated itself into your leg. Recover well fella.
all present and correct hahah
8:15 The NHS is a mess.
But did you get the junction box? 😂
Hope it heals up soon for you and you’re not in too much pain.
I did exactly the same thing on my KSR Moto Worx about 3 years ago. Wouldn't have been so bad if it wasn't for the extremely attractive blonde lady who was getting out of her car at the time, It didn't half bruise my ego.
sounds like a cock up. at least you had the balls to put it on this video. 😂😂😂 joking aside shit happens. disc locks. don't use any more.
Shit happens, you have to laugh! 😁
Sounds like the meat and two veg had a narrow escape the best thing to is get back on the bike and ride it
Anybody ever tell you that you look bit like James Blunt? 😂
BTW it’s twig and berries or meat and two veg.
opps heal up mate
Everyone with a standalone steering lock, not on the ignition barrel, has tried to ride off with it still on at some point. Unlucky that yours was quite so dramatic, though as you say at least you won't be trying out for the choir. Hopefully it'll heal on its own and you'll be back in no time.
Yer i don't want to be squeaky110 🤣😂
Get well soon 🙏
It could've been worse,
Could've been my bike you dropped. 😂
True lol
It happens mate lol any other motovlogger except a few would gone down the ckickbait drama route
TH-cam algorithm is a fan of you being hurt 😅😆
always u-turn to the right, is my takeaway.
Not a bad idea tbh haha
shit happens, well you are in one lump. Get well soon!
Morning Spicy, I know this is probably not helping with your situation presently but after having a restless night I thought I would give you something to think about in case you haven’t. Have you thought that because your Job is a little dodgy in that at any moment something like, err I dunno, like falling off your bike at 6 mph for instance that something like Medical Insurance, it’s fairly cheap, I know it’s money going out but you could maybe now be covered in some way. You are in a dangerous profession, something maybe to consider. Injuries are a PAIN, LoL.
Take care of yourself, we all make mistakes.
Get a lotto ticket for tomorrow spicy 😂
And how many times did they ask you if you were pregnant. 😂
I am a Dentist and highly recommend you follow up with your Gynaecologist
The good news
They didn't ask if you were pregnant [or did they?]
The bad news
They won't kiss it better [and neither should your mum]
Had similar - left disc lock on and tried to ride off. Laid her down and because of CFS couldn't stand her back up [on gravel]. Waited for an hour or so for others to wake up and assist. No damage to me - bent gear changer, bent clutch lever, loose mirror...all fixed free of charge in Dublin city centre.
Sent Paypal donation to help you out
Haha, no, they did not ask if I was pregnant this time, but I have been asked that before a few MRI and CAT scans. Lol Really appreciate the support; thank you!
