  • In 2018 I attempted an approach graft to replace the undesirable apex of a collected Eastern Redcedar (Juniperus virginiana). That graft failed because the stock trunk healed over and pushed the scion (a branch from the same tree, bent into position) out of the graft area. This time I used a die-grinder to make a really deep groove, I cut away the healed cambium on the scion, and fastened the graft by putting a screw through. It's only been a couple of months but the graft appears to be "taking."
