    I'm pretty excited. I held off on the Runcam Thumb as I felt there was too much effort and work required to make the Runcam thumb footage look decent. I saw some reviewers make the footage look amazing, but I suspect it was a combination of pilot skill and gyroflow processing. The PRO 4K version is good. I think it is a very competitive price. I've been looking for a micro (small camera) Avoiding the Insta 360 Go2 as it is a rather expensive choking hazard and I felt there were too many drawbacks. (download footage via case, over heating, limited storage capacity, etc.) Thanks for the review it is through as usual and provides the user with more than enough information to make an informed purchase. Great video. Excellent content. One of the other uses is kind of cool, webcam. The flight footage it is much better compared to the Runcam Thumb. Thanks again.

    Image quality is a lot like the Orange but this is a lot lighter and has ND filters so this one is a better replacement for the Orange and it's cheaper too. All good all around.

    • @AlbertKimTV
      @AlbertKimTV  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Probably the Thumb Pro because of the higher resolution and lower weight. The trade off is some strange artifacts in the stabilization due to the dropped frames problem.

    I love it, a small camera with all the features that most people would need and with a small profile and very light weight. I’ve ordered one after the reviews I’ve already seen, and next will be getting gyroflow and start looking at videos on how to set it up and use it. I got mine with the nd filter set as well, so that will probably mean that I’ll be able to not have to put on a big heavy camera on a quad to get great videos. Can hardly wait till I get it. Unfortunately I waited till after the 14th so I’ve got a couple of weeks to wait till I get it. So I’ve got plenty of time to learn how to use gyroflow.

    Hey Kim! What do you suggest? Which smallest whoop can easily carry it on? I hate my 85X because very loud.

    • @AlbertKimTV
      @AlbertKimTV  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I haven't tested anything smaller than a 2.5 inch whoop. I think you can probably go as low as a 75mm whoop with 40mm props. Not sure if it will be "easy" but should still fly.

  • @NaughtyGoatFarm

    I'm looking for a small cheap camera to attach to a 1/10 scale off road buggy to get racing footage. Obviously there is a fair bit of vibration and bouncing around. Would this camera handle this environment to capture usable footage?

    • @AlbertKimTV
      @AlbertKimTV  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I haven't tested that scenario so I'm not 100% sure. You' have to mount it so the high frequency vibrations are isolated for the gyro stabilization to work properly. It certainly would be possible depending on how you mount it to your model.

    • @pandrews01
      @pandrews01 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I think a lot of people went out and bough one. I almost bought it. It's so cheap, why not. I thought twice, video quality "good but not great." I saw two video clips that made it worth buying and 3 or 4 that made me think twice. That being said, I think it also depends on your usage. The gyro data is its biggest feature. I think some good results can be achieved with a little effort and gyroflow support.

      @INtelshow 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@Wild_FPV I'm still battling trying to get all the jitter and bounce out of my stabilized footage. I can't seem to dial in on what other people are doing. The image quality is better than a splitcam but the stabilized footage is significantly worse for smoothness

    • @Wild_FPV
      @Wild_FPV 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@INtelshow I'd guess that maybe the gyro in the Thumb is a little noisier than what we use for our FCs. Have you done the "auto sync" in Gyroflow when you've been trying to stabilize?

    nice and not very expensive,they are getting better producing small cameras for fpv drones

  • @Wild_FPV
    @Wild_FPV 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Like you, I was definitely not expecting this so soon! And what an improvement it is...
    image quality looks leaps and bounds better than the original and about on par with the X-Lite II I would say. Very close to the Go 2 / Peanut in my opinion. And all of this for $90 (+$15 for the NDs) is just amazing value.
    I agree with you on the start/stop recording via aux channel. If you have to look at the led right under the record button to see if it is indeed recording, why not just use the button as well?
    the stabilized footage does look very smooth, although there are still some small jitters like with the original. Looks like maybe they're a little better on this one? Some people were still getting pretty decent results from the original Thumb but I think that'll be a lot easier to achieve with this one.
    I think this will be a very popular camera and thank you for your review as always🙌

    • @AlbertKimTV
      @AlbertKimTV  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I know nothing about rockets so unable to offer any real suggestions there. The ND filters are for adjusting the shutter speed of the camera to get proper motion blur.

    • @Wild_FPV
      @Wild_FPV 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I've never built or flown one myself but I was aware that some people were using the runcam split cameras. The image quality and weight of this are about the same, the image quality might even be a little better than those split cameras. But we'll have to see if this one is as susceptible to "jello" in the footage caused by vibrations as the original Thumb was.

    I've been wishing for years that someone would release an ultralight 4k camera that could come close to offering gopro-like footage that can be stabilized, with a full case, and at this weight. The original thumb was almost there, but the resolution was just too low to use professionally. But now with 4k, this feels like the holy grail. I imagine the colour will still be superior on a gopro, but with everything else this has to offer, it seems like a bargain.

      Depends on what your goals are. They have pros and cons depending on what you want from the camera. No clear winner.

      @@AlbertKimTV My goal is cinematic footage from a small fixed wing. I understand there's many differences including weight, power supply, gyroflow processing etc . . but the big difference is obviously price. The much lower price than the Peanut is very appealing but only if the end result of the video quality and stabilisation are on par with the Peanut. Maybe we can expect a price drop on the Peanut . . ?

      @Wild_FPV 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@olgoz1 like Albert said there are a lot of things to consider but if you look at some footage from both cameras you might actually find that you prefer the footage from the Thumb Pro. I don't think the image quality difference is worth the price difference, but the built-in battery and easier to use stabilization on the Peanut could be a positive for you. And depending on the size of your wing the 11g weight difference could be an important factor as well.

    • @olgoz1
      @olgoz1 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@Wild_FPV Thank you for your good response. The easier to use stabilization on the Peanut is def a positive. The powering difference is negligible. The decreased weight of the Thumb is always good. If, like you say, the price difference between the Peanut and the Thumb Pro doesn't justify any major video quality differences then I would settle for the much cheaper option. Perhaps we can expect the Peanut price to drop . .

    Interesting option. To me looks similar to the Hawkeye firefly split naked inspite this seem to have better specifications. The Runcam Oranje has more similar specifications and a bit higher price but looks way better in my opinion. But when you need light weight, this seems like a good proposal. Cheers

    After my Go Pro session 5 decided to tell me to go F myself and LCD and display failed... I went on to insta360 v2.... I like it.. but F me.. expensive and not willing to lose it.. and I almost did recently.. I want a light weight fpv cam, that is decent and good price.. The Run Cam thumb pro.. although I've had to purchase a decent SD card and printed mount for my quads... fingers crossed... I do have high hopes.. but we will see

      @@Bruno-cb5gk In my experience the (just under) 32gb that the Go 2 has doesn't fill up too quickly. I can get a few months of footage in there, using the camera rarely.
