My name is Rishi Verma and I am a fifth generation jeweller.
Today I am going to talk about POLKI JEWELLERY and I will show you the necklaces and I will show you how Polki Jewellery is made.
Polki is a diamond. After mining, diamond is taken for cutting and polishing which is done in two different concepts. The first concept is of a regular diamond which has many shapes like round, princess, Asscher cut, emerald, and many more.
The second concept is of polki diamonds. When a diamond is mined, instead of giving it different shapes, it is sliced into thick pieces. This is very much in trend. India’s most influential women and men gift it to their wives.
There are a few drawbacks and advantages of this.
Advantages - If you buy a regular diamond of this size and make a diamond jewellery, for example there are 10 pieces of diamond with 1 carat size. If you buy 1 carat in a basic round brilliant cut, then it will cost you around Rs 2 lakh to Rs 3 lakh in I colour and VS clarity. If you buy 1 carat polki of the same size then it will cost you around Rs 30,000 to Rs 40,000.
I would like to inform one thing, whenever you are buying polki jewellery, make sure you get the bill along with it. Most of the time customers don’t ask for the bill. Polki goes through a lot of processes. Polki jewellery has a silver cube at the back which makes it shine. If a silver cube is not used then polki will look like a transparent glass and it will not shine. So wherever you buy it from the jeweller will repair it after charging something. And if you have not taken the bill then the jeweller might not repair it.
Secondly, the bill is important because if you go to return the polki jewellery to the jeweller with the bill then the jeweller will book a loss of a certain percentage and you can return the jewellery. If you don’t have the bill then the jeweller might be even higher.
As the size of polki increases the price of that particular piece also increases. You can also find a big piece of this size in Rs 10 lakh or Rs 20 lakh. Lot of people are also fond of wearing big polki pieces. An advantage is that it looks very beautiful. The disadvantage is that if it slips from your hand and falls on the floor then it may break. If a piece of polki is broken then it gets useless. It is very difficult to combine the pieces again with various treatments but it loses its value and the originality cannot be restored.
So wherever you buy it from, make sure you check it properly and buy it with a certificate.
