Mick is a great musician and a masterpiece such as "Honour and Blood" (the album) would have never happened without him, but Algy is Tank. Algy's vocals are legendary, the perfect combination of roughness and soul, I can't compare him to any other metal vocalist I know. He's absolutely the real thing.
Saw Tank twice early eighties once supporting Motorhead iron fist tour,then supporting Diamond Head on the borrowed time tour,make no mistake Algy Ward played a massive part in the punk/metal crossover known to some younger people as thrash metal,superb and never seemed to get the recognition,anyway those of us older ones who know wont forget his input.
I saw them on the Diamond head tour . I seem to recall , they replaced another band , at the last minute ? Sadly , there always seemed to be a degree of hate for Tank among metal fans , due to Algy`s punk background . (Metal fans could be very set in there ways). In fact , at the DH gig in Manchester , I was the only one standing up and going craZY ! That was until one of the bouncers took exception to my behaviour , and shoved me , rather firmly , back into my seat - All good fun though !!!
still at war is one of the best comeback records ever. If I could pick one band to get more exposure especially in America, it would be Tank. absolutely no other band from around their time/movement or any sounds anything like them.
@motorheadbanger80 He is writing his autobiography, most of his history with the Saints, the Damned and Tank, suposedly when he finish it he'll be back with Tank, but even that Tank has made a new record with the new vocalist Dogie White( from Y.J. Malmsteen) so we can't take Algy comeback for granted, we just have to cross fingers pal.
I've just been reading the comments on this vid about Algy's weight and the gum chewing. The dude's approaching middle age in this clip and he definitely used to like his cigarettes - I'll bet he'd just quit smoking about a year before this was filmed...

W em 81 supporting motorhead and mid 80s supporting Metallica and they where much better than both
