Some mechanics ideas:
Instead of rings, we get coins like in Thalassophobia but they still act the same as rings
Poison mushrooms act as ghost notes but take away a chunk of health while distorting the screen, a mix of Super Bad Mario and It’s a Me mushrooms

So many opportunities were missed when a lot of characters could've switched between each other to sing. That could've been done with bf and gf singing together. Same with Luigi, Wario and Yoshi. Instead of singing at the same time they could've switched between each other.
